Stereo installation
I would like to install a marine am/fm/cd stereo in my 1991 V20 Cuddy over the winter. There has never been a stereo in the boat. I am curious as to where people think it would be best to install it. Would you install it "in-dash" style? Gimbal mount? Install it in the cuddy for protection from the elements?
Also, how about speakers? Where do y'all have your speakers installed? Your thoughts would be appreciated. |
Re: Stereo installation
As a follow up to the previous questions, what do y'all do about the antenna? I have an antenna from the old Loran unit which came with my boat when I inherited it. Could that be used as a radio antenna?

Re: Stereo installation
Get one of those fancy ones with the remote control, that way you can mount it in the cabin and still control it from the helm.
As for speakers, if you are getting the fancy stereo, then get the Bose speakers. ;) |
Re: Stereo installation
Get up with Lumber, he installed a nice PIMP stero system in his V. ;D

Re: Stereo installation
Another radio antenna option is to use your windshield frame if you have a cuddy or dually. I know that many boat manufacturers did this from the factory. They work pretty well with no antenna to get broke off. And if you have a VHF on your vessel, SHAKESPEARE makes a splitter that goes inline with your VHF antenna cable and gives you an AM/FM antenna plug. This method gives you VERY good reception since your using an 8 foot antenna in most cases.

Re: Stereo installation
lumber, sorry, I missed your post and just saw it this morning. Thanks for the pixtures. I really LOVE your setup. Very clever the way you put them behind the seat cushions in the front.

This is where i put mine, in the cabin & out of the weather. it has a built in antenna & picks up very well. it is a PIA to get to to change anything, so a remote is a definate plus. |
