Fishing line

I just respooled all my reels last week. I used YO-ZURI hybrid line in 15lb and 20 lb test. Saturday I was casting some live baits, trying to get under some mangroves. I managed to snag a branch on one cast. We were anchored in a shallow cut between to islands in about a 5 knot current. Had about 15 feet of anchor rode out ( 2-3 feet of water) and as I pulled the line trying to either get it free orbreak it, I was able to pull the boat within 3 feet of the bank. I could not believe how strong 15 lb test could be. And the diameter of the line is .016 " with virtually no stretch.

How does that stuff cast Franco, and do you have any trouble with knots slipping? I just spooled a new reel with 30lb power pro going to try that for the first time. It is as thin as 10lb mono from what I can see waiting to see how it casts and ties. I swore off the super lines a couple years ago, I had a couple of break offs and tying the knots got to be a pain in the a$$. Can't remember which brand it was now but had a couple of friends recommend the power pro so going to try.

After the first few casts it was great, between having a little looseness on the spool and being rusty - I had a couple of minor birdsnests, but they easily came out. I used a palomar knot to tie everything. No knots came loose. That stuff is tougher than chinese arithmetic.

Have you used power pro, how does it compare, I have some other reels I'm going to switch over

Re: Fishing line

Never used it, I was always a straight mono or wire line guy. So far I like it and it's pretty cheap compared to a lot of that super stuff. Hey Bill, wanna trade a policeman t-shirt for a V20 t-shirt???

willy, i've the p. pro for a couple of years now, 30lb. test in moss green color. Tough stuff NO stretch, palomar knot is the only one you'll need. I use it most when I'm drifting eels[ w/ florocarbon leader], and on my big surf sticks. Down side...casting INTO the wind can jam you up good.I did try the Fireline and after about 100 casts it kinda "breaks" in, so far I like it, less prone to wind knots, both lines will cut wet hands like a knife.

Thanks Phester that is exactly what I want it for too. And I heard a guy was brought in in Keyport and taken by the squad to the hospital, Right across his palm sliced wide open. Did not grab the leader and tried pulling in a big weakie. He won't be doing that anymore :o

Re: Fishing line

for my money you cant beat good old fashioned mono. yes, my thinking may be ancient but it rarely if ever lets me down. and besides where is the sport if a big fish cant possibly have a chance at popping your line.
