 FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

		-V-21, 1993
-Ran the Yamaha 150 HP Four Stroke for the first time this afternoon. 1 hour on it so it will loosen up a lot. -The following data applies: -- 4000 RPM 40 MPH (MPH is GPS WAAS, no current) -- 4600 RPM 46 MPH -- 56OO RPM 45 MPH (wide open throttle) -Red Line RPM is 6000. I will be putting another prop on her next week and see if more RPM helps or hurts me. -Only ran WOT for 45 seconds because of break in rules, but she is strong. -One quiet engine with the little splash platform in to hold out noise. -4000 RPM should be about 6.5 GPH. As soon as I get it broken in I will have the boys hook up the lap top to her and I can report real fuel useage. |

Sounds Great !! I am in the market for the identical engine. If you don't mind answering, how much did the 150 Yammy run you ? I am debating a new boat or a new engine on my V20. Thanks in advance. ( If you don't want to answer publicly please IM me )

Sailboat, -- 4000 RPM 40 MPH (MPH is GPS WAAS, no current) -- 4600 RPM 46 MPH -- 56OO RPM 45 MPH (wide open throttle) -Red Line RPM is 6000. Sailboat -- How is that possible ??? Is this all with the same prop? What prop specs? MPG IS FABULOUS :) |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

-Current prop size is 14 1/4 diameter by 17 pitch. Thinking of doing 15 pitch. That should be 400 RPM and take her to around 6000 RPM.
-Cost Retail on the 150 F/S is $12,500. Add the gauges, harness and prop which brings the retail in around $14,000 without labor. -I've got about $12,000 actually invested by the time it is all over. A tad bit crazy, but we only live once! |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

		WOW,
This world is getting a tad bit crazy. I just was quoted a brand new Hydra Sports walk around with the Yammy 150 FS at 30K. That means the boat is only 16K. Now I'm really confused. - Tom but I believe that you will get plenty of years out of that engine. My 88 130 kicks over real nice at 16 years old |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

STRIP -- I believe you get a deal on the motor when it comes with a new boat. That and watch how that 30g quote grows by the time they get done charging you for "this and that".
SAIL -- I don't see how you can only get 45 mph at 5600, when/if you can get 46 mph at 4600 -- with the same prop. ??? Are you sure you are not getting 30 mph at 4000, and 40 mph at 4600, and 45 at 5600? We have the same boat , and I have a '94 150 yama 2 stroke. |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

		 17 pitch prop @ 4600 rpm
(with a 2.0 gear ratio) http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products...cat=High+Power average prop slip 6 - 10% gives you a theoretical speed of around 33 - 35 mph. prop calculator http://continuouswave.com/cgi-bin/propcalc.pl Prop could be cupped, underrated, or modified to give you a higher pitch which would account for additional speed. |

		46 MPH AT 4600 RPM
45 MPH AT 5600 RPM HOW ??? Is the hub slippin at 5600 rpm ??? Is the prop ventilating or cavitating at 5600 rpm??? Is the tilt or trim different at 5600 rpm ??? Somethin ain't right here ??? |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

REELAPEELIN You might want to check the weight of that Honda 150,I went for the Suzuki 140 it was 105 lbs lighter than the Honda 115 and had a 6 year warranty

4000 RPM 30 MPH 4600 RPM 36 MPH 5600 RPM 45 MPH Tommorrow I'll change props and get back to you. Possibly I'll even qet the data correct on first enty. The grey hair seems to be growing into the brain. |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

Sailboat - Thanks posting the information on the new 4 stroke 150 (yamaha). I have heard many good reports on that engine.
Capt. K - can you post some performance number with your suzuki 140? I am curious. |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

I dont have exact numbers. I normaly run at 4200rpms and that give me a speed of 28mph. (gps) I dont run much higer than that and I figure I am between 4and 5 gals per hour. I redline at 5600rpms. Capt K

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

sailboat's revised numbers look great(can't get by with messin' up on this board!)
capt k... Honda looks to be 12lbs more than yammy sailboat's talkin about...my old rude is 392...yam is 466...honda is 478, so i'm addin' 86lbs(gawd, i hope my math is right)... |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

Sail, thanks for the revision ... that is what I thought it was gonna be. My numbers are about the same for 4000 rpm and 4600 rpm but I topped out at 40 mph at 5000 rpm.
It is interesting that you go to 5600 rpm or even to 6000rpm. But what impresses me most is the fuel economy that you are going to see. I only hope you get to put in enough hours of enjoyment to fully realize this advantage. I recommend you get a navman fuel flow meter. It will help you monitor your engine's operation for any unwanted changes, find the most economical trim, tilt and rpm settings, and constantly remind you of how smart you were to buy your 4-stroke. 8) Keep us posted. |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

-Changed props (to a 14 1/4 X 15) today on the 150 Four Stroke Yamaha and it got me to 6000 RPMs, but reduced speed 2.5 MPH across the board. So back to the 14 1/4 Diameter by 17 Pitch. (previously reported by me as a 14 1/2).
-Couldn't wait for the final break in numbers so asked the guys to hook up today and give me the numbers. - Final results are as follows: 4000 RPM 30 MPH 6.8 Gallons per Hour (GPH) 4500 RPM 35 MPH 8.4 GPH 5600 RPM 45 MPH 15.1 GPH -Only 3+ hours on engine now. My experience tells me she will loosen up a bit by 100 hrs and gain a little. -I do not believe that it matters what engine you really get in the four stroke arena. All are great and quiet! No more ear plugs during the commute to work. -Certainly appreciate all your comments and forgiveness for errors. |

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

The only time I notice the extra weight is when I am drifting and I have one or two people in the cockpit. The scuppers are below the waterline, and it gets a little damp underfoot. It was suggested that I move my batteries foward but I dont want to get into that.

Re: FOUR STROKE 150 HP DATA

As to the scuppers, I have plugs on board for such a situation. Easy to yank if ever needed. As for those fuel burn numbers...I don't know. If got the Navman fuel kit with my chartplotter. Those numbers you just posted are about identical to what I run on my 1988 carbed 150 merc. Especially the 3900-40o0-rpm#. I know that depending on load I burn 6.7 to 7.1 gph at 25.5 - 26.5 kts, right about 30 mph. I hope to repower in a year or so and will be looking to get more range out of my 60 gallons of fuel.

One of my favorite posts from this site:
	Wellcraft V-20 Forum / Performance / Boat test May 12th, 2003, 12:39pm Started by bigshrimpin ***124; Post by cbuzz Just as an FYI my Yamaha manual says 4500 -5500 as the WOT setting. Seems very strange to have such a wide range on RPM for WOT. Ran my boat a local lake this last weekend with the NAVMAN system and a Lowrance 350 GPS/FF/Plotter, full fuel ( 60 gal ) 1 person, no T-top, med load of gear. Using the Boating Mag test profile ( 90% of fuel cap 54 gal.) Boat had maximum range of 186 statute miles. Test results are as follows. RPM MPH GPH Range MPG 1000 5.3 2.4 119 2.2 2000 8.2 4.5 98 1.8 2500 13.0 6.1 115 2.1 3000 20.5 7.1 156 2.9 3500 28.3 8.2 186 3.4 4000 33.5 10.3 176 3.2 4500 38.6 12.0 174 3.2 5000 43.4 15.6 150 2.8 5400 48.5 20.1 130 2.4 CBUZZ WAS RUNNIN A 1992 CARBED 200HP YAMAHA. |
