So we will see what happens on Tue. I will keep you guys informed!! Now what do i do with all the new stuff I just bought??? |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
MJ, you shoulda bought a lottery ticket today...you're reel lucky they caught 'em, and even luckier to recover your stuff(especially GPS w/numbers)
Can you press charges?...if somebody doesn't, those boys might start thinkin' there are no consequences for bad deeds How did they catch 'em? |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
MJ...just went back and re-read last line of your Update ...all that stuff you bought...didja keep the reciepts...recent purchases like those should be returnable...

Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
MJ I just got home from vacation I'm sorry and at the same time Happy for your robbery situation. Sorry it happened at all and happy you got your items back. Bill Mc ;D

Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
MJ, RaP IS RIGHT.
You would be doing the punks a favor by pressin charges. Although your current strategy to recover 100 % is a good one. Not sure if you should go ahead and press charges -- could just bring more troubles your way. Your call, bud. |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Soooo glad you are getting your gear back.
I thought about your problem often over the weekend while I was fishing. Capt K |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
MJ - Congrats . . . that must be a great feeling.
Make sure you get something more than just you stuff back. For example: You could make them clean your boat once a week with a toothbrush. There has to be some consequence to their actions . . . otherwise its "oh well jimbo . . . we got caught this time at least we didn't get caught the other 503 times we stole ****" BTW - see if they have a Johnson 9.9 or Mariner 15hp laying around. |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
I agree with all of you that they need to be punished!!
But for the moment I am playing there game as I have not gotten 100% back yet. If I try to push it maybe he will clam up and I will never get all my stuff?? But as soon as I have gotten all that I can get out of I do plan calling the police and making a complaint!! I am just glad to get the GPS back with all my numbers!! That is what was borthering me the most!! Any way I am getting my new chart plotter tomorrow and after I install and transfer all the numbers to it the Handheld will become a back up unit. The new fish finder should be here at end of week and have not decided what to do with it yet?? After I reinstall my old unit to see if it still works I might sell it?? I got it new from ebay so it is not returnable ,but it was a good deal. Garmin 160 Blue Total with shipping was $150. I no a few persons with this and they like it ok. So if anyone is interested It might find its way to the sellers forum soon. Thanks all I will keep posting the events as they unfold!! |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
MJ - Ask the camp ground owner if he'll arrange a meeting . . . . so that they can "formally appoligize". I think if they met you in person, the fact that your 6'6" 320lbs might help them remember where some of the items went.

Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
MacoJoe,
As a cop I can tell you, PRESS CHARGES. Imagine if in life you could take whatever you wanted. If you got caught you only had to give it back? There would be twice the thievery !! When I was in my twenties I had a college degree and a good paying job. I wasn't smoking weed or Lord knows what they are into. I say make them pay. Just my .02 - Tom |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
To press charges or not will be a good question for MJ to decide when he has his stuff back and all the info to make that decision. A complex decision to be sure. One way or another, the punks should pay.
MJ, HOW DID THEY GET NABBED?? |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
I agree that it is MJ's decision wether or not to press charges.
If he does opt that route the police will take the information pertaining to the theft of his stuff. If they are good Officers they will then apply for a search warrant for the thieves homes. Hopefully they will find his stuff and probably the other people's stuff too. There is no negotiating with terrorist's or thieves in my world. Again this is my opinion and my opinion only, I do not expect everyone to agree, I offer it as food for thought only. - Tom |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Tom - in your experience how often would you say that stolen good are recovered? 10%, 25%, or more.
I've had a quite a few things stolen (including a car) over the years and the ratio of stolen to recovered goods seems like it's about 1% to me. |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
I give a return of stolen property about a 15% chance. I know it is low. A big reason for this is most thieves are junkies, they convert the items to cash or drugs almost immediately.
Another reason for this low number is simply that it is hard to find a suspect in a random theft. If you and I wanted to steal something of value all we would have to do is pick a target and carefully steal it. Now, if we want to start a crime wave we better be more careful, sooner or later the law will catch up to us. In my professional opinion people as a whole should report crime to their local police or the perceived "random" theft that is actually part of a "crime wave" is never linked or investigated, allowing the criminal(s) to "work" uninhibited. Imagine if MJ were to not press charges, he might get his gear back from the perpetrators through some type of arrangement. In turn those responsible can continue to fuel their drug habit or larcenous ways. Other people will suffer this decision. The second scenario includes MJ reporting the crime. He, again, may recoup his losses. Those responsible will be identified to the local police, they in turn will most likely do search warrants for their homes and vehicles. The police may find evidence of other thefts. Other victims may get their gear back. The responsible parties will be prosecuted. The police will also then be "in tune" with those suspects for future incidents. I really want MJ to do what HE feels is right. I am not on a soapbox. I mean only to inform. The opinions contained within this post reflect those of the author. Now I hope to hear about fishing, repairs and happy thoughts. BTW MacoJoe, I just got the Garmin 172c chartplotter it is mint !!! I highly recommend it. - Tom |

Still waiting to hear from Macojoe how the thieves got nabbed?? Stripminer, please stay with this discussion. Your professional opinions, knowledge and experience in these matters are invaluable to all of us. Are you a LEO in the same state as MJ (Massachusetts)? |

Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Cool 8)
Right next door. Are the legal procedures for these matters basically the same in Mass. as in Conn.? |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
I would think that the laws are similar. Are you on the South ( LIS ) or North shore ?
|
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
I'd get word to the little darlins that if ALL my stuff wasn't back in 24hrs that I would press charges...even if you get it all back, still press charges...they aren't owed anything, certainly not honesty...
Still think you shoulda got that lotterty ticket...you reel LUCKY, MJ... |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Stripminer - I am a trailerboater. I go where the fish are.

Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Well I went to the Camp yesterday and they gave me everything that was taken from my boat!! Even something I did not relize was gone! (Brekly Imatation, Bolga grip)
The guys for some reason shot off all 12 flares. I had said I will settle for no less then 100% of everything they took!! So they bought me 2 new packs of flares. I said there were 12!! and the promply gave me the cash ($10) for the other 3. But 6 were out dated so I made out there. I even got the key bacK!! After I got a formal apolige from the 26 year old kid who looked like he was about 16!! and saw how nervos he was I have decided not to press charges. I know there will be those that say I must!! But this kid is messed up!~!! Big time!! And I did get it all back. Then there is the time I will have to go to court in wareham. Not worth the hassle IMO. I brought the laptop to work last night and I spent the better part of 3 hours typing up all the GPS numbers to disk just incase this happens again or if it just stops working . I also took the time to tear out the old dash!! This has been something that has been needed for a long long time!!! I rewired all last season but just never found time to replace the dash. So here is the old and the new!! I think it looks great!! and wish I did it along time ago. I got the 1/4 X 9" X 21" Seaboard from a scrap pile behind a local boat place for $10 I have not finished yet but here it is. http://img43.photobucket.com/albums/...acojoe/118.jpg http://img43.photobucket.com/albums/...acojoe/119.jpg |

Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
HOW DID HE GET CAUGHT ???
|
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Well it seems that they owners daughter went to school with him. He had been slipping in from the back gate of the camp grounds and went unnoticed because he did it so much they thought he belonged there.
Anyway she saw him and she had not seen him for a long long time and walked over to his car and say hi. While talking to him she had noticed a hammer on the seat next to him and aske what it was for? He said that he had saw some kids with masks on down in the storage area and was going to see what they were up to. (this is were the boats and things are kept) She called the security and they went down to check things out. When they got there the gril and security got out to ck things out and while they were walking around the guy took off!! They new then that he must be the guy. They were going to call the police the next day as they new were he lived or at least that his family still live at. The next morning as she was opening the office at around 9am she saw him driving in the front gate!! So she called sucrity and they corned him and try talking to him. There are two cops, one retired and one active that camp there with there familys and are friends of mine so it worked out good!! They questioned him for sometime and he was almost ready to crack but needed one more push! So the retired cop that is 2 campers from me for 6 years now said I think we should go get joe to talk to him. The other cop said yea that will do it!! The guy said who is Joe. cop said he is the guy you took the stuff from and he is pi$$ and he 6" 2" 320# And the crazy person I no!! When he comes down here you better star praying, we have had tons of problmes with and he will knock you out and ask ?? later!! Well not to much after that he said he was the one to take it and said he still had all the stuff. But that he had shot off all the flares and that they were gone. I had given them a list ofstuff that was taken and said nothing less than 100% or I was going to police. and you no the rest. |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Sounds like the owner's daughter would make a helluva detective. 8)
You oughta do somethin nice for her. :-* |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Good news !! I'm glad it worked out for you. If the kid was wetting himself it's a good bet he's not a hardened criminal. Now,, lets get back to fishing huh ?
- Tom |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Hey MJ, your dash rebuild looks great...from adversity comes greatness...sounds like major skid marks in you thief's jockey shorts..congrats on full recovery!!
I agree with Old Seakindly(that oughta get a rise)...you should do something nice for the girl...she really cracked the case for you... |

Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Thanks all!! Now if I coukld figure out how to get the darn steering wheel off ??? The darn thing has only been on there 1 1/2 seasons and it is stuck there??? I have a new SS Wheel to put in it place now.
I have been out there installing a new fuse panale and eltronics and now new nav lights. I need to have it all done as I am on vacation next week and want to fish fish fish~! I need it bad!! Later |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
MJ...hope you got that steering wheel off by now...if not you might have to find a gear-puller to fit...when you put that new SS wheel back on, a little light-weight grease on the steering shaft will make it easier the next time you have to remove it...good luck...
|
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
Thanks and no I have not got it off yet!! I kind of gave up because I have been installing all electronics and that lead to fixing the lights and that lead into just about rewireing everything!!
I am going to try this afternoon? I have to be ready today as the rain is comming!! And I will have no time to play with it this week as iam on vacation and want to fish fish fish |
Re: Update on stolen stuff!!

Re: Update on stolen stuff!!
I will be fishing hard this week!!! I have from tue 8am to sunday 12 midnight off from work!! *;D
I have installed a Garmin 160 fish finder and a Garmin 162 Chart Plotter along with the new dash, and all the other stuff. This looks like a advertisment for a theft if I ever saw one!! But I have learned (for now anyway) to remove them after i am done. http://img43.photobucket.com/albums/...icture_122.jpg |
