Weight
I'm going to be buying a new brake actuator for the boat I just bought, but I want to make sure it is big enough. Can anyone give me an idea of the weight including V-20, trailer, gear, and a Chevy 305? I could have it weighed, but I just need to get within 1,000 pounds of the actual weight to make sure I get the right one. Thanks.

Re: Weight
+ - 6,000 pounds should be fine!
|
Re: Weight
Really? That much? I knew these older V-20s were heavier, but wow!
|
Re: Weight
Well the total rig, Boat, Motor, Gas, trailer, and all your gear, and the weight of the fish when you come in ;D All adds up!!
I would say you most likley will be around 4000 to 4500# And it doesn't hurt to go over! so at 4500 you would go 5000 for the brakes. I didn't know what size they have so I chose to go 1000 over to be safe thats 5500, rounded to 6000. But thats me, Better Safe then sorry! |
Re: Weight
Hey Pipe...MJ doesn't mean his boat, motor, trailer weighs 6,000lbs...that's the increment ABOVE the actual weight of the rig that brake actuators come in...in my case mine's a model 6600 which means it will hancle trailers w/total weight of up to 6,600lbs...
Average V20 on trailer probably from 4,500-5,000lbs...and that last figure is w/ice & beer ;D... |
Re: Weight
Great minds think a like!! ;D
|
Re: Weight
Incredible, ain't it ;D...
Hey MJ...if we do have a get-together somewhere, you gonna have to drag your bracket on down... :) |
Re: Weight
OK, I was figuring something like 4,000 to 4,500 lbs. Are weights for V-20s published somewhere? Oops, I guess I should look myself . . . gettin' lazy. :P

Re: Weight
Thanks for your input. I got ahold of Wellcraft today and they looked it up for me. The dry weight of the boat with an inboard motor is 2,620. My trailer weighs 1,060 and 46 gallons of gas weighs 276. So that brings me to 4,000lbs. Add fishing gear, coolers, fish, etc and I could be over 4,500. I'll add 1,000 pounds to my estimate to be safe and get the actuator closest to 5,500lbs.

Re: Weight
Hey Pipe...That's what this board is for...or one reason anyway...
If you ever get curious, though, look through the Gallery's old brochures...get yourself a magnifying glass...some of them give dry hull weights for different models... 1920lbs is what I think I'm seein'... :) |
Re: Weight
Well I have seen most weights at or around 2500# Now depending how old the boat is you have to take in account that it has some water loging that has acured.

Re: Weight
At first it was just a hunch, but now I am quite sure that our beloved Macojoe has been abducted by alien beings forom outer space, and they have left an imposter in his place to cover their tracks. The switch probably happened during that huge snowstorm that dumped a yard of snow on Cape Cod. Check this out:
