collonites fleetwax

Anybody use it? I Just put a coat on and I'm pretty happy with it. I first compunded the hull, then 3m cleaner wax then the collonites.

Also -Woodys wax with bronze wool on the anodized alum window frames works ok.

Hey Fillet, Is that a brand name collonites? Used the 3m stuff last year then tried the maguiars stuff. Seemed like alot of work and didnt change much. Like to know if that stuff really slicks it up.

It is the best wax I have seen . I put one coat a year on and it still beads water a year later . They make a primer to use the first time that you wax and I would recomend it . Also, you don't want let the wax dry on the hull it can be a ***** to remove !

Re: collonites fleetwax

Vic- Yep its a brand. Boatus/west marine have it.

I think it looks great on the hull... BUT it was pretty chalked up when I started and I compunded first, then the 3m cleaner/wax then the Collonites. You gotta have a decent surface to apply the wax or the gel coat will just absorb it. Took about four hrs with a buffer to go over the hull three times. My arms hurt! 8)

The hull isnt perfect but it is pretty shiny. I'll get some pics up if I can.

MJ - You are killin me!! ;D

Fillet,

Collinite is good stuff. On a clean surface it will keep shining for at least 6 mos. before it needs to be touched up. I've found that if you use a lot of it, it will yellow a white hull over time...

Re: collonites fleetwax

is that stuff like a floor wax or like a clear coat when applied?

I tried waxin' once...lead to unsightly wax build-up in the spider cracks... ::)

JAysea,

The bottle indicates that it is for "marine and aeronautical" finishes. If you have the liquid, it is watery, kind of like Nu-Finish if you have used that .

It is a wax, not a clear coat.

Re: collonites fleetwax

Veeder , I found the same thing with regards to the yellowing . But it has only been around or below the water line .

Re: collonites fleetwax

labii,

I used Collinite untill I tried TREWAX. Doesn't yellow the hull, and you don't have to use a chisel to get it off.
