Overhead Picture

Not the best pic, but I managed to climb a big pine tree out in the back yard to snap this beauty. I darn near fell out of the tree!

Just kidding, I took the pic out of my kitchen window :P :-*

I should have had my electronics showing :-[
I've also got to get some seating installed!!

Talk about cockpit space! ;)

Re: Overhead Picture

Thats a cool pic of a cool boat.

Now I'm thinking of taking all my seats out. ;D

Hows that OMC run?

macojoe 03-15-2005 04:08 PM

Re: Overhead Picture

Thats the same exact set up as mine!! But I still have the engine cover from the I/O

I also put removable seat posts in so I can remove the seats when I want to!! I like driving standing up most of the time and when I wire Jig I like the seat out the way!!

I will have to get a shot of mine from the window when I get the cover off!

Re: Overhead Picture

The OMC needs some control cable adjustment. I don't think I'm getting all she has. Had her on the lake on Sunday and GPS showed top speed at 27mph.

I don't even want to think about this, but is it possible a cylinder is not firing?

First thing I'll check is the control cables. Then I need to get the tach hooked up so I can see how what's goin on.

Other than slowness at WOT, she comes out of the hole ok and cruises nicely.

I'll get ya'll some better pics - I promise!!

Re: Overhead Picture

140 HP 27 mph?? Seems to me thats all your going to get?? Maybe a hair more?

I had the 165 I/O and they say at the prop that was like 130 to 140 and Thats just about what I got all the time I think I hit 30 once or twice??

But now with the 175 outboard I cruz at 30 top out at 38 or so I did mange 40 a couple of times but that was when I was alone with no load and just had a small amount of gas.

Re: Overhead Picture

BR i'd check your prop. I had a bad head gasket that caused me not to get full rpms once too. But changing my prop has always had the biggest impact on rpms. Does it sound like you're getting too many rpms (too small a prop and would kill top end) or does it sound like the motor is not developing full rpm potential (maybe too big a prop)?

Re: Overhead Picture

No real way to tell till you get that TAC working, That will tell the whole story!!

Re: Overhead Picture

A little trend starting to pick up right now are bean bag chairs for the boat, like so...

http://www.e-searider.com
(I have no personal or commerical interest in this company.)

I think it came up as a way to provide seating in the cockpit of the big sportfishers. So the crew can be outside and comfortable for the run offshore, but the chairs can be thrown into the salon in seconds when it's time to put lines in. Anyway, just a thought. ;D

Re: Overhead Picture

C'peak - my lord don't let my wife see those! My cockpit will be full of em! And I got this wierd feelin they aint gonna fit in the V20 cuddy :'(

That's a pretty neat idea though. I just wish I'd have thought of it! Its downright cool 8)

Re: Overhead Picture

Hey BR...you're readin' my mind...been meanin' to hop up on the roof and take that same shot of mine.... ;)....you got a great lookin' boat comin' along there!...

Are you gonna put that cooler in the front hold...looks like it'll fit...

Noticed your saddle tanks are gone...whatcha gonna do?...

Whadja make those hatch-lids from?...they look great!... 8)

Your hull looks JUST like mine... :) :D ;D

Blue_Runner 03-16-2005 03:40 PM

Re: Overhead Picture

Hatch lids are fiberglass - look like original equipment, but I don't know. Somebody put a coat of some kind of gray primer looking stuff on them ???

Saddle tanks are still out from the pressure washing I did on them. Will go back in this weekend. One question in that area: Where can I get a 3-way connector so that I can hook both tanks into a single line? I know what you're thinking, "why don't he just use that "T" that he got off the tell tell on the OMC?" Don't worry, I've already thought of it and it doesn't look like its big enough :'(

Also, yes, the cooler will fit in the hold but most likely its going to provide one of my buddies with a place to sit while I outfish him ;D

Thanks for the comments - she looks better from a distance than close up! But, I'm not done with her either! More to come...

Re: Overhead Picture

CT, to answer your question, I don't have much experience with outboards above 70 hp, but the 140 does not sound like its giving all its got a WOT. That's why I'm going to have a look at the control cables. Do you know how to hook up the tach? :) I have one, just don't know the first thing about how to hook it up.

macojoe 03-16-2005 04:37 PM

Re: Overhead Picture

First off hooking the tanks to a T does not work well!!

1st
All tanks need to be hooked up with the same length hose.

2nd
All vents need to be hooked to one vent and all the same length.

This is to make the draw and the persure in each tank the same.
The Idea is to get both tanks to empty at the same rate. But I have done this and it still doen't seem to work right??

I have 3 tanks now and I use a 4 way valve, and it works great!!

Here is a 3 way for you to hook up your 2 tanks.

I and CB made the new hatch covers out of 3/4 Starboard, They look great and will be around long after we are dead!!
Just have to get the deck preped for the LineX and she will be looking good!!

Hey Mj, you forgot to mention the dinged prop. ::) ;D

Blue_Runner 03-16-2005 07:37 PM

Re: Overhead Picture

Yeah, I saw the starboard hatch covers ya'll made...they look sweet. I priced some 1/2 and 3/4 starboard to redo those black panels (the one's you replaced w/ starboard) as well as to do the tank covers on the sides and the hatches of course. It was going to be about $270 if my memory serves me correctly.

chumbucket 03-16-2005 07:44 PM

Re: Overhead Picture

Cheaper than that. This is the place I took MJ to get his. Problem is, it'd cost you the difference to ship I would guess. But, maybe you could find a local distributor for the CPG Seaboard which is the same as Starboard for less $$ This place is here in Boston.

Ooooo, I like the Grip-x! I'm going to get by with what I've got for a little while at least....but maybe one day!

chumbucket 03-16-2005 09:16 PM

Re: Overhead Picture

Yeah, the Grip-X is new stuff. Nice, but not cheap.

macojoe 03-16-2005 09:45 PM

Re: Overhead Picture

I did not see the GripX when we went, is it new??

Seaboard is the way to go!!

chumbucket 03-16-2005 10:04 PM

Re: Overhead Picture

Yes. New since we went there.

Re: Overhead Picture

Blue Runner,

Iv'e got a 140 Evinrude on my 76' and I see 5300 rpm at just over 39 mph(gps) and cruise at 4000rpm at 29-30 mph. Iv'e still got saddle tanks in my boat. I installed a fuel/water seporator filter with brass ball valves under the portside splash well. This "tees" my tanks for me.

reelapeelin 03-17-2005 10:05 AM

Re: Overhead Picture

Shicks is right on the money...you need a fuel/water seperator anyway...it has multi-ports in and out... run in from each tank, then out to bulb and motor...in-line shut-offs in each line from tank... ;) ;D...this set-up has worked great in mine for 6 years...

Good luck wichever way you choose... ;D

Blue_Runner 03-18-2005 01:32 AM

Re: Overhead Picture

Shicks, I'm running a 15X17 prop (17pitch). What are you running?

Also, is that by GPS or by a speed sensor on a fish finder?

Thanks for the info.

BR

Re: Overhead Picture

I think with my out board I was using the same prop. with the 165.
