What a Beautiful sound today ummm. The sounds of one of my V-20's future twin 225 Johnson's. She sounded so good with the new wisco pistons and Boyesen Reeds. I can't wait now i've just got to get the twin to her put back together. ;D ;D ;D

LOL well i rebuilt my transom and made it 28" center so that twin 25" motors will be perfect together. Plus made the new transom 3 3/4" thick from bottom to top.

A Ha! *Another twin V-20! *I have the V-4 version of those engines and I thought they made her a bit tail heavy. *Are you using a bracket? If so, who's? *I'm going to bracket mine for the added flotation provided by the cavity within the bracket so she sets more level at rest. *Right now they are on jack plates(previous owner...I'm polishing some of his work). *The problem I'm seeing is the slight curve to the transom. *Did you re-do your transom flat? *Most brackets out of the box are flat, but I know Armstrong will build one curved. *Pricey though. *I've also considered building my own. *What are your thoughts?

I have 2 sets of twin 140's. 2 Johnson 25" CR 140's and 2 Evinrude 20" CR 140's. I may end up putting the twin 140's on instead. My transom is only flat in the center for the twins it has a flat 40" section in the middle and 28" high in the center and 25" high 27" apart for my 27" min motor seperation. I'm not using a bracket. But i am going to add 14x8 hydaulic trim tabs.

You might want to go grab a tape measure and check the distance between the lower chine and transom notch. I just went out and measured mine to water the water line and it is 7 inches above the chine.

Just want you aware so if you need to modify anything it can be now rather than after the first launch.

Granted, my engines are 13 inches off the transom without any added flotation.

LOL yeah i could make a second job out of boats in my shop. the problem is i have a 40 x 60 shop and it is full, all the boats are outside but one.

LOL oh yeah fastest V-20 on the water lol. Hey Havis i measured the black line is exactly 7" from the chines and the top of the transom is another 8" from there.

Skool - you're scareing me. That's way too much HP.
Just try it once (don't kill yourself either) and go back to a single 225. The v20 isn't designed/built to hit 60+ mph (or in your case (80+mph repeatedly). Keep the other 225 for parts/spare.

Big, he's got me concerned, too...my biggest fear is that it'll sink stern first from the weight... :o...but I think Skool's "round the bend" on this one...don't think we can turn him...just wish him best of luck!...

Thanks for the concern. I've still got a couple sets of twin 140's i may use a set of them first and see how i like the twin 140's. I actually have 3 225 Johnsons. I'd really like to find a 28 to 31 ft center console for 2 of the 225's or find a 35 to 38 ft for the 3 of them. A 28 thru 38 without motors cheap or with blown up OMC products.

Thanks BS i liked that first link that's like a over grown V-20. I looked at a 30 ft Chris-Craft he had on that website once but never got the money right for me to be willing to drive to S. Fla.

Skool, I just used that Quicksilver stuff you get at Wal-mart. Glad to hear the motor looks good on the inside! The previous owner said they were winterized, so hope the other one looks as good.

About the 225 motors, if I were you I'd hang twin 115's on there. You'd have a heck of a rang and the reliability of twins without the added weight. Should push it over 50 easily I would think.

I talked to a friend of mine who used to build and race PowerPlay go-fast boats before I bought my overpowered V-20. He said if the transom will handle the push of the engines, the hull will handle the speed, though it could get squirrley at high speed with some waves since it is so short. Also, for a given speed, an increase in hp does not equal the same increase in speed. He said 70mph is elusive and for some reason it takes gobs of power for any boat to get there and even more gobs to break 80 and nearly double the hp from 80 to break 90. The Scarab 22 with the stock 330hp BBC runs upper 60's, but the same boat 502/502 Mercruiser will run upper 70's 180hp for 10mph. Eliminator makes a 22' steplift hull and they will give it to you with the 502/502 Merc. Point is, is if you pay attention, it's not quite as lethal as one might think. Just build the transom right and forget about insuring the thing. I don't know about other states, but you can get a boat recommissioned as home built here in Texas to keep it legal.

PS I have often though a v20 with twin 70s or 75s would be sweeet!!

I know its only 140hp, but with two props I bet it would be a nice lil ride!! Better on gas too! ;D

What i think would be great on any 19 to 22 foot boat would be a pair of the old Nissan 3 Cyl. 100 Hp motor. They are narrow and would be like having a 200 Hp but would have enough power at 100 hp to get you home on one if needed.

Skool, you're readin' my mind on HP, but I was thinkin' about how a pair of 100 or 115 E-Tecs would work bracketed on a full transom hull... ;) 8)...

yeah but the bracket will add alot of tail weight in the water and the 115 is a v4 which is much heavier than the nissan inline 3 cylinders. the 115 would only be 30 more pony's and the difference in weight it may be better to have the 100's.

may require a matching set of Highly polished Nortons for a twin boat. That's a lot of beast to hold back lol.

I have full transom and Bracket!! But I would have to switch the bracket for a double.
If was I, I think the 2- 140's would be great!! Pleanty of power toghter or seprate!!

yeah MJ i'm thinking 1 225 will be plenty. the cost of gas that's only 3 carbs to feed the twins are either 8 carbs to feed or 12 carbs to feed um sounds like money out the bank ugh.

one 225 will be pleanty!! But since we were talking twins , I said the 140's would be he best fit IMO.

Just FYI my stainless marine bracket is 1/2 alum. and is only 230 pounds. and this is with full swim platform, you can get them with out the platforn just a hair over 100 pounds.

I wish I coulda got that '82 I/O that sold for $866 the other day...that hull w/a bracket and two new 130 E-Tecs (only 375lbs ea), pulpit like MJ's and a lightweight rigid top would make a nice package... 8)...IMHO

Yea I have a great Pulpit!! Maybe I will get to use it some day??
i took the boat out 5 times all year, and have not been out since June :'( I started putting the boat away for the winter now. all I have left is fog the motor, the cover is already on!
O well hopefully next year will be a banner year, since I left all the fish alone this year!
