Its Official
Well this afternoon I finally came home with my 1985 V-20 full transom, Armstrong bracket, 1999 Johnson 115 Ocean Runner bought in 2001, full enclosure(minus back curtain!) electronics and a big smile ;D Now I can be an official Norton Snagger. It's weird to walk out on the driveway and see it and realize how long I have been looking. I've got a bunch of work to do on it so I'll need some help. Besides the boat itself one of the major reasons I went with this boat is because of all the guys on this great forum. So wish me luck 8)

Re: Its Official
Don't thank us yet!!! You may live to regreat it!! Welcome to the biggest money pit in the world, you will hate her, and love her, all at the same time!!
Congrats!! |
Re: Its Official
Congratulations Bill, Welcome aboard!!!!
|
Re: Its Official
Congrats, sounds pretty sweet!
|
Re: Its Official
Congrats.
I have an '86 and love it. Do you have pix? |
Re: Its Official
No pics yet, I guess I'm going to have to buy a digital camera now so CB and RP and MJ don't yell at me. But you all have seen the boat, go to Fillet 1's gallery I bought the boat from him and thanks all, and MJ this is my first V-20 but not my first money pit, just ask my CEO she'll tell ya 8)

Re: Its Official
Welcome willy. Money is a medium of exchange, so you might as well exchange it for marine supplies. Bill Mc ;D
|
Re: Its Official
Gotcha, I understand the concept but it seems foreign to the litlle Italian CEO. She's comin around though, I have skills of persuasion ;)
|
Re: Its Official
Two major issues I want to address is the torque steer and getting the bottom paint off. It's on solid after the marina power washed th algae off, some barnacles sticking still but not much
|
Re: Its Official
Willy,
From what I can tell from those pics. It don't get much better than that. ;) |
Re: Its Official
Thanks Shick ;)
|
Re: Its Official
Awesome WIlly!!!! Im so happy for you!!
She will be just like a woman to you....there when you need her, but you'll wish it would go away other times. ::) |
Re: Its Official
When you find an easy way to remove the bottom paint please post it here MJ and many others want to know! bill Mc ;D
|
Re: Its Official
Don't know how easy it is, but muriatic acid takes it off I hear.
|
Re: Its Official
Acid! :-/
|
Re: Its Official
If I ever get the energy to take it off, I am going to go the Bix way from Home depo.
Just paint in on and scrape it off!! Then you have to sand the stain off, at that point I might just repaint it with some good enmaml Paint? To save the sanding?? |
Re: Its Official
Did I understand right , the temps got to be in the mid 60's to get the stuff to work. Those temps are going to be few and far between for me now. At least for any period of time to get a big job like that done :-/
|
Re: Its Official
Willy, lighten up on gettin' that paint off the bottom...go enjoy the boat for a season and worry about it durin' off season...slap on a new NFB cable an' go fishin'...plenty of time to sweat the details... ;D...it'll get back in the 60s come Spring... ;)...
|
Re: Its Official
yeah, it aint the end of the world having the bottom painted. Just use it as is and worry about it next year if thats what you really want. ;)
|
Re: Its Official
Sounds like the best advise goin, any advise from you guys that fish during the winter on what you do to keep the fuel, electric and plumbing systems ok when it drops down to frost temps and you still need to use the boat.
|
Re: Its Official
Congrats Willy, and Thanks. Now I have the pleasure of looking for my future boat all over again! Maybe a V-21?????
|
Re: Its Official
Use a fuel stabilizer because it will be sitting for extended periods. Charge the batts once a month. Plumbing? The water drains out of the outboard after flushing.
|
Re: Its Official
You got it Buddy, oh so your gonna one up me with an extra foot huh ;D
|
Re: Its Official
Gotcha CB by plumbing I mean the lines that always end up holding water like bilge pumps and their lines, scupper hoses etc.
|
Re: Its Official
V-20 is 20' 6" while the V-21 is 21'4", so the answer is, Willy, my friend - F1 can only up you by 10" at best, and still remain in the family ;D
Jus my .02 :) |
Re: Its Official
Bill,
The scupper lines wont hold enough water to do any damage if its freezing out. same with the bilge lines - the excess water in the line when the pump kicks off just drains back into the bilge. |
Re: Its Official
Ok Rich, hey Rich did you say that you thought the motor was maxing at 5400 rpm in the beginning of the season, I was'nt sure. Trying to remember. Talking with Skools on another post. I read the manual last night and it says the max rpm should be between 4500-5400 depending on prop
|
Re: Its Official
Just roll it over Willy!!! ;D
|
Re: Its Official
Sorry Stink Man just got in what do ya mean just roll it over ???
|
Re: Its Official
willy, congradulations on the new rig. You got a nice package there,F1 did a nice job on that boat. I see you're a jersey guy...striper season is fast approching, the tackle busting blues are bitting... get her out and fish. Like RAP told me just before my maiden voyage" YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THAT HULL" The more you use it the more you'll thin out that bottom paint...makes the job easier come springtime. Good luck.
|
Re: Its Official
Phes where you fishing out of
|
Re: Its Official
And I already decided to let it fade away a little before I get a stiff neck working it off, too many fish so little time ;D
|
Re: Its Official
willy ,I'm on Long Island, north shore NYCity is 45 miles to my west, MONTAUK 75 miles to my east. I fish the L.I. sound mostly, no need to travel elsewhere...bass ,blues, fluke, blackfish, they're all right at my front door. I'll usually surfcast the south shore
|
Re: Its Official
Congrats on the new ride. Just a heads up on the bottom paint situation. Make sure you get a paper suit from the marine store and cover every inch that you don't want the bottom paint color.
I learned the hard way! I looked like a smurf for about 2 days, got paint on the carpet, clothes, in our bed, needless to say, I'm sleeping in the guest BR for a couple of days. My CEO's not too pleased but she still complimented me on the paint job. Plus, I happened to mention that it saved us at least $700. It makes a ton of difference. Looks at least 10 yrs, newer. |
Re: Its Official
Thanks Offshorega I'll keep that in mind ;)
