NEW TO FORUM WTB 1995 V-21 NEED HELP

I am considering buying a 1995 V-21 with a 200 HP Yamaha.

I have owned my share of outboards so I really don't need help there.

What areas of the boat do I need to inspect for water damage (soft wood).

Thank you,

Check to see that the deck inspection plates are sealed good and haven't been letting water intrude into the surrounding deck.

Unscrew and look into the rear inspection plate and both transom hatches. You can see quite a bit of the internal structure through these two spaces. Just bang around in there and I think it'll be obvious if there's a problem.

A 1995 model taken care of shoulnd't have too many issues. Plus looks like they keep a cover on that boat too. Check for flex in the transome extension. That's about all I know to check for. Good luck. I absolutely love my V-21.

She looks like a beaut Anka, do the normal engine compresion checks etc. Jump up and down on the floor looking for flex, lift the engine with the trim extending the lower unit back and put your weight on it trying to lift and push down, better yet have someone else with you do it and watch that transom from the the side and look for it to flex. You can lay a stick or yard stick sticking out pointing backward to use as a visual guide to any flex. But like Blue says with a 1995 you should have very few problems along that line

I will be inspecting the boat on Saturday. If all goes well I will make the owner an offer. NADA lists the range in price to be $ 7,840 to $ 9,450.

What range in pricing have you seen on these boats?

Are there any other sources of information on boat pricing?

Thank you,

I paid 6500 for an 1985, with a 1999 Johnson installed new in 2001, very low hours, Armstrong bracket, new enclosure and some electronics and trailer. I'd certainly be willing to pay up to 8500 -9000 in this area for a clean 1995 V21 with a good Yamaha motor. Check that motor good. I live about 45 min from where that boat is and the V's hold there value well in this area. I have seen those boats go for as high as 13,000 with newer power on them and a good trailer and up to date electronics.

So far w/2 days left, no bids. starting bid is $5k, keep that in mind with your first offer, you can always go up but not down.

GL, looks like a nice rig, love that transom!

It was one of the last model years for the classic design. Looks like its in great shape with Yamaha power. Great combination!

Is the 1995 Yamaha a carb or fuel injected motor?

If it's fuel injected, how do you disable fuel flow to perform a compression check?

Thank you,

Skools has probably got this one...you could disconnect fuel line or look for ''shut-off'' and run it dry, then comp test...probably a better way...

Inspected the boat today. On a rating of 1 to 5 with 5 being excellent, I would give the boat and outboard a 3.75. Three years ago he paid $ 15,000 which included the trailer. I mentioned to the owner that I thought the boat was worth between $ 5,000 to $ 10,000. He thought the number was low. I wait a week and see if the boats still for sale.

How can you determine the year of a Yamaha outboard by the vin number?

Gentlemen, thank you for your imput!

The cabin area was wet and i did not bring my tape measure. How large is the cabin area and is it large enough to sleep in?

Re: NEW TO FORUM WTB 1995 V-21 NEED HELP

6'0" and have slept there once. ALONE and diagonally with no problems.

My V21 cuddy area does not leak water when parked on level ground, however when towing in rain, the water does find its way inside. OR if parked on a slope with one side lower than the other water will drip down into the cuddy.

Good luck,
Blue
