specs for 18 sport
anyone know where i can find what the biggest motor i can put on a 1990 18 sport cc? it doesnt have the ID plate on it.....and it currently has a 1990 120 force on it..but i found a 2000 4stroke 115 yamaha that i'd like to buy ...wondering if the transom can handle the extra weight....nada.com says the force is 300 lb and says the yammy is 390lbs

Re: specs for 18 sport
I've seen em with as much as 150hp but I'm not sure of the hull's rating. You should be powered about right at 115hp in my opinion.

Re: specs for 18 sport
think a heavy 4 stroke 115 will be ok though?

Re: specs for 18 sport
If the transom is not rotten, it should be fine. With the force motor on there, do you notice any flex when you apply your body weight to the foot of the motor when tilted down? Bounce on it real hard and see if you notice any flex.

Re: specs for 18 sport
Kajun, I have one and its rated for a 150. *Mine is a 90' with a 120 Force as well. I have seen one with a 175 though (same weight really)
A 150 would be PERFECT IMO. Its a heavy lil boat. ;) You will be FINE. REPOWER! 8) |
Re: specs for 18 sport
you will be fine if there is no rot in the transom. Go for it

Re: specs for 18 sport
In other words, if the motor falls off, it must not be strong enough! Just kidding. If your tansom show no obious signs of trouble, you will likely be ok.
115 4 stroke ought to sip the fuel |
Re: specs for 18 sport
What length transom on the 18's?

Re: specs for 18 sport
20 on mine
Here is a nice 18 ;D This is the guy I met while fishing one day that led me to my bracket. Also seeing his 18 in person kinda talked me into going bracket on mine v20 *;) http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com...IM000031_1.jpg You can barely see mine in the background of the top pic. http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com...IM000033_2.jpg Sidenote-it looks real nice, but evidently dont run so well. We happened to launch at the same spot 2 weeks later and I had to give him a tow in. ::) |
Re: specs for 18 sport
According to Wellcraft's site 150hp is max.

Re: specs for 18 sport
I've looked at these boats quite a bit. *I almost bought one with a full transom ready for a bracket. *If you install a two stroke 150 you'll burn quite a bit of gas, however if you stick to a 130-135 hp motor you'll have a four cylinder rather than a v6 and better fuel economy and you won't have to worry about the additional weight. Just my $ .02.* *

Re: specs for 18 sport
thanks...well looks like i'm gonna try to fix the ole force myself.....if it dont work when i'm done i'll start looking to repower ....i really like the wellcraft hull...just i have about $5k in this boat now and to repower with a new motor would put a total of close to a new boat this size..so i'd have to find a really good used motor.
i backed away from that 115 yammy....the guy that was trying to sell it too me is a used boat seller and knew someone with this motor...when i ask how many hours it had..he said he didnt know...when i asked if it had been rebuilt..he didnt know...when i asked for the phone to the guy he knows that was selling it..he kept sidestepping me....i figured i didnt need a 3rd party to buy a used motor lol |
