Keel Guard
Has anyone installed a keel guard before. Been looking at them on E-Bay, but worry if they might peel off.
Has anyone problems with these or input. Thanks. |
Re: Keel Guard
Have been thinking of it, But have never had the money to do it.
But I know a guy did it and after 3 years was still on solid. Its all in perparation!! |
Re: Keel Guard

Re: Keel Guard
I put one on my Whaler, 4 years and there was no sign of it coming off. If I recall I got it from Cabela's, make sure it has the 3M adhesive.

Re: Keel Guard
Question:
Why do the keel guards come only in small sections ?? 6ft..7ft. Its made to just protect the front portion of the bow at the keel. Shouldnt it go the full lenght of your keel, 20 ft ????? |
Re: Keel Guard
??? ???And what the heck is a burnishing tool, ie required to install the keel guard. ???
|
Re: Keel Guard
A hardwood dowel could be used as a burnishing tool. It is used to apply even pressure when installing the keel guard.

Re: Keel Guard

Re: Keel Guard
It could only happen to me: put a keel-guard on my V20...enjoyed ability to run 'er up on the bank a little w/out the ''crunch''...worked well...then one day, I'm puttin' it on the trailer, miss the center roller, hang the bow on a trailer cross-member and CUT the keel-guard backin' it off to realign...had to come off after that and never replaced... :P...
Hammer, a burnishing tool came w/mine; it's a heavy-duty plastic (thick) handle one end, wide blade other end...Franco's right...it applies even pressure by rubbin' it across the keel-guard as you put it on...no big deal...I kept mine, it's come in handy for lots of other stuff ;) ;D... |
Re: Keel Guard
I have a keel guard on my V20. I didn't install it, it came with the boat. It started to peel off above the waterline about 3 years ago and I reattached it with MarineTex Flex Set. It seems to be holding well and I think that since I keep my boat on the trailer and launch it when needed that it has protected the bow of the boat pretty well. I think that it may be worth the money if you launch from a trailer frequently.
