Platform Support

Still trying to come up with a custom dive platform. Found these on the net. Anyone ever use these before. They are easy brake aways, so you can remove the platform. Thinking two of these and a piece of 1 1/2 starboard 24x24 might do the job.

Oh yeah, the cost is 90.00 bucks a piece, plus shipping.
They are 6x22 in size.

Thinking of not going with that bracket now. I noticed that the support that gets bolted to the transom has recessed holes for screws and not bolts. If I use a bolt, the other piece will not fit on. If you follow my meaning.

cool little gadget. sounds a little pricey but, hey, what can ya do? if ya gotta pull double duty, its worth it to be able to yank those babies off and out the way. i think i would go with teak instead, though. strbrd is easy and last forever (you will be taking them off and on) but, teak is just class. but hey, i build decks for a living...

...and from what i've gathered, stinky hooker also likes wood ;D ;D

dude, have you ever been on the fastener aisle at home depot? they got more nuts than a suicide bomber! bolts too. you can find a bolt that works, i am sure of it. on the inside, i would put a small sheet of aluminum, then big washers, then nuts.

then let me know if it works, i might try it,lol

Found this bracket support that will work. Would prefer to get someone local to make them, but the last guy who promised to build me one disapeared.
Going with starboard because of strenght. The weight of two dive tanks, diver, extra gear, dont want the teak splitting on me or popping out from the supports.

This is set up for bolts.

those look good too. wich ones cheaper? you should deffinently go with witch ever one your most comfortable with. and that is a lot of wieght. you could cut half inch starboard to 2 inch strips and mount them on 90's, like a ladder, then mount ur starboard plate to them. would be hell for stout then! that second set looks like it might wanna act like a hinge and let the ends swing towards each other as the strbrd tries to bend in the middle.

Re: Platform Support

Hammer, when we used to dive from a boat, we'd always release our BCs w/ tanks and let 'em float while we boarded, then fish 'em over the sides...made for a helluva lot easier boardin' than tryin' to climb in w/ BCs and tanks still on...

Those brackets you're showin' above are gonna be a RUSTED mess in pretty short order...ya really need to be thinkin' in terms of SS or Alum... 8)...

Re: Platform Support

Theres a guy 30 miles south of me that does alum and stainless. Might have him quote me a price before I buy.
Diving off the big dive boats, we always come up with gear on. Diving off friends boats, we take the gear off. Its a real drag lifting doubles up over the side.

Reel, I agree with ya. If I can make the ride down, I'll get a quote. Working the night shift, I sleep the whole day away all the time. Was off teh last two days and teh boat sat in the yard while I slept. :'( :'( :'( :'(

Hammer, I also mounted a handicap hand rail on my stern on the cap that is through bolted with backing plates. It helps a lot when climbing up on a platform with gear on. I also have a 3 step ladder to climb up on.

Re: Platform Support

Phatdaddy,
You read my mind. Thats the same thing I was gonna do. Add that rail for balence while getting out.
