SOSpenders???
Is anybody usin' SOSpenders auto-inflatable PFDs...coerced wife into giftin' me one for C'mas(back-ordered, so hasn't gotten here yet)...been winter striper fishin for years, but in my old age that 45-50 degree water's lookin' colder all the time :o

Re: SOSpenders???
I don't use 'em, but I think they're good. Buddy of mine is a guide on the Chesapeake. He's a big fan. I've tried it on and it's very comfy...you forget it's there. I don't think I'll go with 'em because you can't wear them underneath things. For fall/winter striper fishing, bulky parkas are a must and I don't think the SOSpenders will fit over it. I think I'm going to go the flotation jacket (Mustang, Stearns, etc.) route. I can wear layers underneath and just wear a thin rain parka over the jacket.

Re: SOSpenders???
I have a set here and they are like having nothing on at all!
I bought them for my son a few years ago, and he love it!! You should have been there the day he said, Dad how do we no this is going to work when I fall in?? I said like this, and I reach over and yank the pull coard! *;D It was great!! I still laugh at the look on his face till this day!! |
Re: SOSpenders???
I was contemplating purchasing them a while back. Then they had a RECALL :o, and I got turned off. :-/

Re: SOSpenders???
Well I guess when mine come in I'll have to toss 'em in the pond and see what pops up...then after re-chargeing, they're for sure not gonna work ::)...guess I'll have to quit fishin'....NAAHH!

Re: SOSpenders???
I was just telling Phester I wanted to get some these.
Most of the Pilot's boarding ship's wear these, they swear by them. |
Re: SOSpenders???
That is super cheap, although they are not the "auto" kind, you need to pull the pin, for most situations that should be OK, but if your unconscious....you're drowning

Re: SOSpenders???
On bass masters they all were suspenders when under power. As I get older I want to keep things going longer. I like the size of this type PFD. Bill Mc ;D

Re: SOSpenders???
Cool thing about these is, you FORGET you got 'em on!!...there's no reason to take 'em off...I'm sold...several of my close friends have seen mine and gotten them... ;)...

Re: SOSpenders???
What kind do you have? Bill Mc ;D

Re: SOSpenders???
SoSpenders Automatics...like Tin said...knocked out will never have the chance to pull the cord on a manual...
If you order one, you don't need the ''saftey strap'' that might be listed w/it... ;)... |
Re: SOSpenders???
Unless I am mistaken the auto inflate are USCG approved PFDs if worn but the manual inflate are not....don't remeber for sure, I will look it up tomorrow. At work we use Mustang float coats in the winter and we all wear Sospenders auto inflates in the summer months

Re: SOSpenders???
I HAVE A SET THAT I USE ALL THE TIME SINCE I DO A LOT OFFSHORE FISHING AND CRUISING TO BIMINI.
THEY 'RE BOTH AUTOMATIC W/MANUAL BACK UP, AND BRING 2 CO2 TANKS, ONCE YOU USE THEM IN AUTOMATIC DEPLOYMENT, YOU CAN PACK IT BACK AND USE IT MANUALLY. THEY ARE GREAT IN ROUGH WEATHER. LESTERUS |
Re: SOSpenders???
No experience with'm in particular but, in 45/50 degree water hypothermia can set in quickly. I do spend time wavesailing in the winter and use a drysuit to keep warm...and the water I sail in only gets 65 degrees at the coldest.
