Getting ready for winter
What's everybody's schedule for pulling and winterizing their boats? That's one thing I don't miss when I lived in Maryland. Hey MJ, any plans for a repower during the off season?

Re: Getting ready for winter
Hopefully I can keep taking the boat out until late November, then I'll winterize the motor.

Re: Getting ready for winter

X2! My big plans for winterization are as follows: NOTHING!!!! I do plan on going bracket this winter and enclosing the transom. I will be working on that over the winter. I will do that on weekends that are hot and sunny. Its not my preference to sit in a tree and swat skeeters so I will do it then.....while northern folks dig their cars outta the snow. :D |

I am going to have to wait to see what spring brings me?? I plan to getb a 2nd job to help my daughter go to collage. After I pay the winter heating bill and some money for her, I will see whats left? To tell the truth I may be uncovering her, cleaning it up, a little paint, and she will go up for sale! :'( But I no see any choice, after the 2nd motor being DOA I have not got the money. I might try to look for a small skiff after the sale just to get off the shore? |

I have a friend that has a 1989 18' Starcraft Alum with a 1989 Merc 90 hp and trailer. He bought everything new in 89, Motor has been great for him!! He did have the magnets on the fly wheel let go about 7 years ago and had to replace the stator and all. The motor has now been sitting for 5 years with out running. Last time out the over heat alarm wentmoff, but it never over heated?? I was there and was going to tow him in, but there was no need. But that alarm screamed all the way in, 3 miles :o The boat has a few leaking rivets, and a stress crack in the bow, I would have to remove the front deck and remove the gas tank, so the welder can fix itr. He like to get $1000 for all?? I might do that and sell the V20?? everything is up in the air at this point. |
Re: Getting ready for winter
I hate that for you MJ. I know how much you love the V20. Life is that way sometimes and sacrifices must be made. I had to sell the little boat I had (that I loved BTW) in order to put myself ahead in a newer lower milage truck. I feel your pain and wish you the best. ;)

Re: Getting ready for winter
This will be my first southern winter and I have to say I'm looking forward to it. Though the season won't officially end, I'll be painting the hull, fixing holes and painting topside...

Re: Getting ready for winter
My winterization plans are . . . non-existant. I will pull her out of the water around Dec 10, but only because we head North for Christmas for a week, and I won't get out on the water for the few weeks leading up to the holidays. If the weather is good in January, we'll launch then. Summers can be brutal in the South, but fall, winter and spring are wonderful. ;)
Dan, I still love your avitar. |

Re: Getting ready for winter
The pirate ship is all wrapped up for fall and winter.
I wish I could retire, but, it is depressing to work for a company 30 years and only be 48 years old. Oh well, if the V was in the water all year, none of my "This Old House" projects would ever get completed. |
Re: Getting ready for winter
And THAT is why my house is in the shape it's in! :o ::)

Re: Getting ready for winter
DAN!!! I'VE GOT NEWS FOR YOU: THERE IS NO WINTER IN FLORIDA!!!! AT LEAST FOR YOU GUY'S. IT'S LIKE GOING IN A BOAT WITH ALL AROUND A/C!!

Re: Getting ready for winter
No winterizing here. When I was a bit younger.. We had a tradition of going diving (then fishing) on Christmas day 8) ...water temp around 74 deg, Brrr, had to wear wet suit! Air temp around 80 deg. haven't dove in a few years (no time and gear not kept up)... can still go fishing seas permitting.. maybe I should think about changing her name... ::)
Sorry, don't mean to rub anything in.. ;) |
