Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
Welcome to the site. Check out the gallery section here. Our member; bygracealone is currently working on repowering his dual console from a SeaDrive to a bracket/outboard conversion. Also in the gallery section is several years of factory catalogs with specs. Depending on the year of your boat, most were rated to 235 HP or so.
Just be prepared to post some photos of your rig as members here will begin to bombard you with the pic requests. ;) 8) |

Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
Hey Lumber, nice boat buddy. Mine's an 86. As CB said, I've recently converted mine from a sea drive to a bracket with a 96 Johnson 200HP...
Anyway, here's the documentation I was able to scrounge up. It's for an 85. What year is yours? http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...0Fisherman.jpg |
Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
hey alone,
Ive seen your pics nice job , do u think i should go bigger than 175 hp when i repower??? |
Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
Thanks. Mine wants to look as nice as yours when it grows up ;)
Before I answer your question, keep in mind that I have yet to even ride in a V20! However, with that caveat, I would say that you should stick with the 175. Personally, I would have preferred a 150. The only reason I went with the 200 was because the price was right. At the time, I couldn't find a 150 for the price I paid for the 200. A 175 will be more than adequate for your boat. |
Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
cool
i think it will move nice with 175 . the 140 moves it about 35mph so little faster will be nice |
Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
150's are perfect.....but 50 extra ponies are always nice too. If I ever have to re power, it'll be a 200
|
Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
I had 175 on my cusddsy and hit 40 mph, so a 175 onm your dualy will be 40+ ;D
|
Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
just add a second 140 and you can hit 70 mph.
|
Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
Ran the maiden voyage with the new 150 hp and with a four blade 17" pitch prop I turned 5500 rpm and 44.7 mph verified on two gps units. I'm very pleased. It would've been a nicer day if we caught a few more fish.

Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
what kinda motor are you runing Iam planing a 175 e-tec
|
Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
Lumberslinger, that should be a really good fit. I found a 2000 Merc 150 that was sold in 2002 with less than 100 hours. No Optimax or EFI, just a carbed motor. This motor is heavier than my 1985 150 Merc I took off. The 2000 weighs 407 lbs and it puts my thru hulls underwater and my transom drains from the wetwell too. I do have 2 ea. 1000 amp batteries, an onboard charger and the oil tank in the bilge. I'm going to replace the plastic thru hulls with stainless steel and new heavy duty hoses.

Re: anyone own 20 ft sportfish
Bronze for thru hulls, better than stainless.
