Willy's Big Decision

Well at least it is big for me. Went out this weekend with my son and good friend, caught a couple of weakies 15-17 inches but nothing else happening.
But I did make a big decision for a couple of reasons but the jist of it is I have decided to sell Old School, one of the major reasons I have hesitated till now is you guys, enjoy the commraderie and you are all just about as wackie as me.
I bought Old School after looking at 16 V's all over the north east with the intention of getting my first good salt water boat.
I wanted one preferrably with a bracket, definetly with a full transom. And that transom and floor had to be solid. I was not concerned with gel coat cracking and all the dings etc. an older boat gets because I intended to strip the hardware off the boat this year, fair in any marks etc. and do a nice paint job on it.
Old School fits the bill well and she is a good riding salty boat that is the driest boat I have ever been on. I have put about 1500 into her to date and a bunch of sweat cleaning redoing teak etc. I bought her for 6500 from Fillet1 one of the older members here that is no longer active.
But as they say sometimes the Good Lord has other plans for you and this year he came down and smited me with a major neck surgery, and though I have tried four times to make it work fishing the salt my neck will just not let me handle it. I have thought about buying a smaller CC and just going out once in awhile and using it in the frsh water, cause for me to load, trailer 45-60 minutes to where I can launch, and then launch and the recovery and return is just too much for me. When I add in the rocking and rolling that goes on here in the salt that night I fall to sleep only after talking with Uncle Jack for bit.
Well thats about it, I will eventually get a small Tin Boat to fish the local lakes here with a 9.9 on it. Something easy to launch and trailer, and close.
I put this on this post so you all will know why and I will post it in for sale tonight when I get a chance. She is the best boat I have ever been on anywhere near her size and it has been a major decision for me to sell her but one I have to do. ;)

sorry to hear it. i'm sure you know ur welcome around hear anyways. heck, stinky sold his v20, and we still put up with him! a small skiff can be a lot of fun. i love mine. this time of year the reds and specks move up into the bayous and a skiff is the only way to go. maybe a v-18 and an electric winch. great bass boat and you can still get salty on a good day.

Re: Willy's Big Decision

I understand Willy and don't blame you. Never know, that neck might just get back to 100% before you know it and you'll be back in the market for a salt boat. Until then, take it easy and know that we understand and pray for your speedy recovery.

Just don't leave :)

Yeah, just cause you sell the V-20 don't mean you can't stay and play....

Shoot willy, don't let that be any kind of factor in your decision -- once a V-20-er always a V-20-er! *Sorry about your neck problems, and hope things get better for you soon.

Yea Willy, definately stick around!! :-* Many members here that don't have V20's anymore....Grand Pubah, CB....I was here way before I got my V.

Good luck!

I may be selling in the spring also.

Re: Willy's Big Decision

This site has become more than just a V20 ownership site. It's what prompted and was the driving force to BS starting the site. Just because some of us don't own one yet or anymore don't mean squat around here.
We can all still agree on talking supermodels right? Well, all except for MJ. We all know which way his anchor swings. ;D
Whatever you decide, best of luck to you. Stick around. There's plenty more shenanigans to go around. ;D

Willy, sorry to hear that the neck is still a bother to you. Like the other guys said once a V20er always a V20er. I need you here so you can tell the ocean guys just how good a Walleye tastes. Keep posting! Billy Mac ;D

Can't say I didn't see it comin' after ya asked me about the cat ride...figured you were fixin' to move one way or another...but here's the thing; once ya have one of these boats AND spend some time around here w/ all the guys who know 'em and love 'em...it all gets under yer skin a bit...what ever boat ya get, you always got a place to talk about it here...and you know how we luv pictures...don't wander off too far, Willy ;) ...

Post up the latest on Old School and what ya need to get for 'er...we'll do all we can to find 'er a new home...see ya around, Willy ;) ...

Re: Willy's Big Decision

willy, that was probably a tough decision you had to make, but, obviously you need to do what's best for your health. A little tin boat is alot of fun, and, perhaps as you already know, just so simple to launch, clean etc etc. Heck I've fished my tin boat 3x as much as the V this season. Just need to stick around the site...I've always enjoyed your posts, good luck

Re: Willy's Big Decision

Thanks Hook, appreciate it

Well just did something I never thought I would, posted in the for sale section :-/

I aint goin nowhere though, you guys are too pretty to leave on a street corner, besides I need to be keeping an eye on some of you :o

I think I am going to look for a decent tin boat that I can use ten minutes from my house on two huge resevoirs, 9.9 limit, plus I got the upper Delaware River and Lake Hopatcong within 45 minutes if I get one with a little bigger motor on it also. Pretty easy to launch them things and close for me too. That is all I did for the past 30 some years, on little tin boats, if I wasn't fly fishing some stream between North Carolina and Ontario. What is it they say, you regress as you get older.
This weekend was the kicker for me, and I even had some help, normally I was going out with one of my young sons or daughters and I was on my own. Too heavy a boat for me to handle as often as I like to go, too much to tow around for that quick two or three hours on a lake after work type of thing. I have a good friend with a Grady down in Toms River NJ that I can go out with a few times a year on the salt.
And MJ I understand what you are saying, but it is just too much work for me to fish the salt with my neck, I'm the one doing all that work. Plus a day of that rocking and rolling is just not enjoyable for me like this.
Plus I know that was just your Wind Talker way of saying I love ya man ;)

Brother Will, I know how you feel. My neck is still screwed up. Dont know how I did it, at work or playing.
I never had a cage in my patrol car until recently. I complained big time. I'm so long legged, now with a cage in the car, I'm crunched in, Pain to write speeding tickets. ;D
Could have gone out today, but went out all day looking at homes and land. Looking for some quick cash. I might be following behind you. You do have one of the nicest V's. Wish you all the luck on what you decide.
HAMMER.

So what exactly you trying to say there CB. Remember it's you and the Wind Talker in "P" town during the summer, I ain't never even been there.
And now that I know what their flag looks like (thanks to you) I know what to avoid. Learn something new every day.

Re: Willy's Big Decision

Yeah Willy, what about an electric wench for your trailer...that would help with launching the boat eh? Oh yeah that's right you are talking lakes with the < 10hp restriction. ::)

willy 10-11-2006 03:51 PM

Re: Willy's Big Decision

Yea Blue and Parish, believe me I have thought more than twice about it. Just don't need a big heavy boat for the fishing I will be getting back to, 14-17 tin boat is about it.
At least it will let me get on the water a lot, and the two lakes right near me are decent size but seldom choppy unless a storm blows in. But I can just about get in 15 minutes from almost anywhere on them so not a concern. It isn't just launching the boat it is the accumalative effect that it all has on me. Long drive to the water (tow) of about 50 minutes on a good day, the launch and recovery with normally a pretty good crowd of people waiting to do the same, I need at least three hours to fish the salt before I even stop for bait and clean up afterward which I am religious about with the boat and motors.
Thought about biting the bullet and paying the 2500 for a slip and even found one, pretty decent too.
But after a beautiful day on the water with the rocking and rolling I was shot. Maybe a year from now it will be healed up enough where it does not bother me so much but for now I know the answer :-[
