Re: REDFISH???

helllllll yeaaaaa you can eat em! great tasting fish! when chef paul prudhomme invented "blackened redfish" in his kitchen in new orleans the blackened craze dammn near wiped out the La. redfish stocks and other redfish areas too......

oh yea.. "blackened" is NOT cajun by any means....if my mom blackened anything she called it "burnt" and threw it to the dogs :)

No, they're no good to eat and besides they don't fight much when they're hooked up either. Have a friend caught one last week (42") and it drug her kayak 2 1/2 miles till she (that's correct) boated it. *;)

42incher a nice bull. but, prob not so good for eating. prob full of worms.i keep em up two a couple feet or so. past that i release em. let em grow sme more so i can catch him later for a state record. heck, the ones i release usualy grow 4 or 5 inches before i even get back to the dock!

Re: REDFISH???

I got two of them today around 22" each. We do get the bigguns seaside but not many under 40". I was actually in a good spot for them this afternoon but no takers. CY, you have to get the V-20 in the slew between the breakers. Don't even think about trying it till ya been with someone else.

Re: REDFISH???

it's getting to be the right time of year for em hear. in the fall the big ones come pu close to shore and into the bayous. we sight fish for em hear. they like to run up into the fresh as far as they can. they come in with the tide and run up into the grass as far as they can to feed. they get in water so shallow thier backs will be sticking up out the water. we call it 'tailing'. its not unusual to pull 20-30 pounders outa 3 or 4 inches of water. dayum stink. we gotta put ur 18 in graviline bayou. seriously!it's right there in goula. dont know if you've ever fished it, but its a sweet deal. slow troll the bayou with white cocahoe and live shrimp. watching the banks for tails. its one of my favorite honey holes this time of year. usualy limit out in short order. should hook at least a few 5 pounders (specks) and hook a few nice reds to boot!, hell, i.ll buy the gas. even come tow the boat for ya if ya want!

Re: REDFISH???

RacerX, personal experience, 1 foot of water, soft bottom mud and motor up as high as can go without leaving the water.

I was exploring an area and ran out of water.
Luckily for me the mud was soft enough that it only
choked the and flooded the engine.
I had to trim up and flush the mud and then sit for about half an hour before manually chocking to get
her running again.
From now on, I will believe my depth finder. :-/
