Please dont be the water pump!
I like to start the boat on the muffs if it has been sitting for a couple days and I am going to take her out, this way I dont have to start ruff in the morning. Usually it takes about 30seconds and the water starts to drip, then flow out of the spitt. Today it took longer, and then it never really flowed but sort of spirted every few seconds. I let it run for about a minute and nothing changed and the exsoust seemed to be a litle more smokey then normal.
I am hopeing it is just the water preasure from the hose :-/ and going to take her out 1st thing in the morning. Please tell me it is probably just the water preasure and I will be all set in the morning ;D Thanks for any input. |

Re: Please dont be the water pump!
Could be the water?? Or it might be something stuck in the tube and not allowing the water to flow good??
But a good test will be for you to back the motor in the water and start it, this way you have pleanty of water to race it up and see if you can blow it out. Take the pisser off the hose and see if it flows better? If still the same then I would say the water pump is going and if you go out go slow!! Its not a hard job to do get all the stuff and like 1 or 2 hours and you be finished! I did my Yamaha in 40 min. Its not the end of the world!! |

Re: Please dont be the water pump!
I ran aground once and the pisser stopped flowing. When I got in and flusher the motor I sprayed water back into the pisser and then started and it flowed just fine ever since.
It can be quite worrysome when the pisser stops up. |

Was it cooler than normal? Your thermostats are probably 158 degrees and they may not have opened fully. Just a thought. When you gave her gas did the flow increase?

I ended up filling a trash barrel up with water and she flowed a litle more consistent, so hopefull just the hose preasure. I am just worried about getting shut down tomorrow, it looks like the only decent morning for a few days, and days are limmited
I am planning on changeing the impellar in the spring. If it blows/siezes up tommorw, I will be sure to be back with lots more quwestions!! Thanks again~!! |

Re: Please dont be the water pump!
Unless you are hoping for a repower, I would change the pump before I went out. JMO.
As far as the pressure on the hose, unless you have very low pressure, I would think a pump would be in order. I had mine changed early this year, and the mechanic said I would not have gotten two more trips out of it. The impellar was coming off the hub. The trip before I took it, the pisser was flowing good. I saved the impellar to look at later and sure enough it was coming apart. |

Re: Please dont be the water pump!
Try pushing a thin wire through the pisser, it may be clogged. If flow gets better you may have found your problem, if not, & the tube is clear, make the water pump repair. Good luck, Joe

Re: Please dont be the water pump!
You can also pull the hose off from the back side of the pisser where it goes thru the cowling, some times it gets something right there it can't pop out, run it with that off pointed out of the way

Re: Please dont be the water pump!
What motor do you have Sean? I had a 1989 Johnson 140hp and it took over a minute for it to pee. It worried me to death and I would chicken out and cut it off thinking there was a problem with the pump. I was not waiting long enough and it was fine. So, how long did you let it run in the barrel? And with the muffs? And more importantly what kind of motor?

Its a 96 Mariner 150. like you I got scared and shut her down in fear of siezing the engine. In the barrel it only took about 30 seconds for it to start flowing nicely and Sunday we went out and it ran perfect ;D
