I now know what M.J.'s secret project was. He was gonna build an ice breaker for the front of his bow, for all that snow and ice. ;D

MJ, I hate to see that pic. *Looks like a long winter setting in. *When I left home the other day it was 70, and I forgot to grab a jacket. *It's been in the mid 20's last few nights and damn cold. *Glad I haven't had to be outside much.

got a quick "dusting" around 10:30 am this morning. Should get back into the mid/upper 40's by Wed. I think I'll finish off my season from the surf......I winterized the outboard this past Sunday , so my boating season for 2006 is officially over :'(

Hey Franco, call me weird, but after living in FL for 7 years I'm so GLAD to be back in the seasons. I don't miss FL weather at all. You can keep that 6+ months of heat and humidity. I know I'm not like most. Dec thru March in FL would be OK and the rest of the year up here. Hey, maybe I'll be "snowbird"....yea, that's the ticket!

:-/

I hear ya Tin, I spent 48 years having seasons. It's a nice change for me now though

"To each his own"... ;)

I never enjoyed a Spring as much as I did this past one. To see the whole area come alive in such a short time was really cool...never realized it till I left for several years and then came back. Another thing I didn't realize is how much rain we get up here! :-/ I'm really looking forward to this coming Spring...fishing in the Peconic Bay is great...I think I prefer it even more than the "Fall Run".

I do miss winter "Speck" fishing down there....you ever fish the dock lights at night down there?

Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!

I don't know Tin, I too have had 52 years of seasons. I do like them and have lived elsewhere for short times in different climates.
But I think that what I would prefer is the seasons without the extended cold like you would get in southern NC and south to northern GA. Especially if you are in hilly country there such as northern GA foothills.
I am actually considering a trip down there to scope out some properties for a winter retreat in a few years. Going to try and do the semi-snowbird thing. Something small up north for the spring summers and fall and a winter thing down there. I am having some problems deciding whether to go a little warmer and closer to the coast of GA or the interior and big fresh water impoundments there and southern SC.
As a matter of fact if any of you guys know those areas I would appreciate your imput on my idea. Only thing I know for sure is I want to be on the water, sweet or salt I like both

Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!

Well I have had 44 years of seasons and use to love them!!
But now I can't stand the winter!! I can't fish and with my diabetes my hands can't stand the cold!!

I need a warm place!! But I know I could never stand the heat of the south!!

So I need to places and i am lucky if i can afford one :-/

I've only had less than 30 years of seasons, but was stationed in the Arctic. While I was sitting there in a fighting hole dug into the Norwegian hard pack I made the decision never to be cold again! Of course then they sent me to the desert ???

Beaches and blue water for me now, never looking back. I'll visit the seasons!

Talked to one of my closest friends in Baton Rouge LA last night. He said he had to go out and turn on the lights in the greenhouse it was going down to 34. But usually he is in a t shirt or maybe a long sleeve t shirt most of the year.
But I don't like his summers, hot and so muggy you can slice it. Then every day around noonish a torrent comes down for ten minutes and drenches everything and disappears as fast as it came.
Anyone live in Georgia near the South Carolina border. Always thought that would be a sweet area.

Willy, the second town (exit) north of the GA/SC border is a great place. I want to say the name is Ridgemont, but I won't swear to it. It's about 30 minutes inland of Hilton Head. I need to poke around the area a little more, but it seems like a great place. We pass through a couple times a year and always stay there. Great little restaurant called Jaspers Porch, right on this little lake. Great food, great atmosphere and great people. We plan to vacation in the area in the next few years. Just seems like were always going to Disney.

Thanks Air, thats the area I'm talking about, what times of the year have you been down there and how was the weather?

Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!

We've been in the area from early Nov tpo late Feb. IT's far enough south that it gets cool but not fridgid. I'd say the winter there are like October in Jersey. I remember one trip when it was 35 or so in the morning and the locals were terribly upset about how cold it had gotten.

Willy, I just read this . . . and that's where I am. It's a nice place to live, I've been here 18 years. Boating here on the coast is great with lots of inlets, rivers and creeks. We have beautiful beaches, too. On the coast the ocean waters moderate overall temps. Just a few miles (someone mentioned Ridgeland) inland the lows are lower and the highs higher. Tides range 6-8 feet. If you're a Gulf Stream fisherman, you're looking at 60-70 miles -- too far for me. But there's plenty of nearer to shore and local fishing to keep you busy.

Hot and muggy summers we have. It pretty much swelters here in July and August, the temps wouldn't be so bad but it gets humid like nobody's business. If I could leave for 3 months or so I'd be set. Other than that I don't plan on going anywhere. If you have any more specific questions, ask away! ;D

Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!

Willy, the GA/ SC border is divided largely by the Savannah River...damed up along it are Lakes Hartwell and Thurmond...BIG lakes, perfect V20 sized water...it WILL get cold however, ain't gonna kidja 'bout it ;)...but excellent striper fishin' in both 8) ...

...if I's lookin' like you, I'd have to look at the N FL Gulf coast...Appalachiacola, Port St Joe and most incredible; Cape San Blas ...AWSOME ...will get cold there from time to time, but not like here ...wifey and I honeymooned there in late Oct ...water like swimmin' and all ...year-round EXCELLENT fishin' ...add to your ''check it out list'' for sure... ;) ...

Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!

Thanks Pipe and Oz. I remember the pics you guys had up about that gulf coast area. Looked sweet, very sweet. And Pipe I hear you on the southern summers, spent one in Augusta Ga. and sweated my arse off. Was also there in January and was running around in just a flannel shirt. That I can take.
Just losing my taste for the cold winters as I get older. I'm 51 and that is how I feel. Can't imagine being here when I am a little older :-/

Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!

Ok I'll chime in. I live right smack in the middle of North Carolina. I love it. 1.5 hrs to the mountains (less than that to certain trout streams). I've got big impoundments nearby - one 10 minutes (High Rock Lake), another 45 minutes (Lake Norman) and another 1 hr 15 min. (Lake Wylie) just to name a few. Theres also Tuckertown, Tillery, Buggs Island (Kerr), not too far away.

On the coastal scene there's Myrtle Beach SC at 3.5 hrs, Wilmington NC 4 hrs, OBX 5 - 5.5 hours and so many coastal areas in that range it would take the rest of my life to visit them all.

The really really cold of winter doesn't last much longer than a month and same goes for the really really balmy hot summers. It gets hot but not like Florida where the sun is directly above you at 9 am in the morning.
IMO July is as bad as it gets for summer and January for winter. We are also fortunate enough to get some snowfall which is usually welcome since we only see it 3 - 4 times a winter. Kids love it - they will close school in a heartbeat. I can remember at least 3 times when I was in school they closed school down in anticipation of snow only to get pure rain and 40 degrees! ::)

One of my biggest gripes is daylight savings time. I hate to "fall back" in the fall. Can't stand getting off work and its dark already. ::) I wish NC would do away with that crap!

In summary, I think a little bit of seasons are good. The hot makes you appreciate the fall and the cold makes you appreciate the spring....

My perfect setup would be to have a place at the NC coast. When my kids get out of school we would all load up and spend the summer at the beach and move back inland when school starts again. :D
