Full Transom Measurement
Hey guys,
Will someone with a full transom V-20 give me a measurement on the outside from the tip top to the bottom of the V? I assume most years models will be the same height. I have seen several things online and in a boat store during the last week that have got the wheels turning in my head. Need that measurement to further calculate. Thanks. |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
Randleman...I can't give you the measurement, but I'm pretty sure that measurement will change in year models late 70s...that's when Wellcraft raised the cap height in order to make floor deck self-bailing... ;) ...

Re: Full Transom Measurement
REEL, I'm probably wrong, but I don't think the cap height changed, at least on the outside. I think they just raised the deck, reducing cockpit depth.
Airslot If I get a chance I'll pull the tape after work. |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
Slot...take a look at mine above the rub-rail, then at one after the new deck was put into production...I think you'll see a taller cap on the later models :D ...but you got me thinkin, (uh-oh)...is randleman askin' for measurement BELOW rub-rail (rub-rail to bottom of hull)...or does he want OVERALL from top of cap to bottom of hull?...
...randleman?...which do ya need?... |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
Ahhhh, I see. Do we agree that the hull itself is the same? I'm sure there are differences in the cap itself.

Re: Full Transom Measurement
Its cold, and there is ice, and I have to crawl under the swim platform to measure, but I got it!!
37 inches Total from bottom V, to the top of the cap. From middle of the rub rail to top is 1 3/4 Total might be off 1/2 inch but thats the best you getting out of me till the spring comes!! ;) |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
Thanks MJ.
I was wanting the very top of the cap to the bottom V. I bet it is cold up there, it was 13 here this morning! |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
Its 25* now, But just to let you know I have been looking at the gallery and the cap on different years are different!!
So I would take 1 1/2 off and use the measurement from the bottom V to the middle of the rub rail. I would think that they are all the same there? Mine is a 1975 |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
I was thinking that this might work on a V-20.
http://continuouswave.com/whaler/ref...onversion.html But after looking at the back of the Whaler compaired to the back of By Grace Alone's, both after the seadrive was removed, it appears that the V's transom is about 6-8 inches taller than the Whaler's. That would probably be enough to prevent the motor from tilting up enough. I just thought that it might work. Sorry, I'm not computer savy enough to put the pic together for compairison, but someone will jump on it I'm sure. |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
Well thats my thought, you really would not have enough room for the tilt.
You can see in there pic's that the motor is almost out of the water but not all the way. If you leave your boat in the water this is going to mean that there will be more maintains involved with the lower unit as stuff will grow in there. But for the amount of work there is in repairing the transom you might as well just add a regular bracket. With a flotation bracket all you have to do in a Seadrive conversion is make a plate up to cover the hole and thur bolt it on, The new bracket will cover it up and you will never see it any way. |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
Slot...agreed...measurement on both from rub-rail to bottom of hull should be same...the cap was the variable I was thinkin' about...
...but lookin' thru this thread, I think randleman w/ MJ's help has concluded bracket the way to go... ...and I'd like to applaud MJ for goin' out in the CCCOLLDDD and gettin' that measurement ... I nominate him for a BIG OL' ATTABOY!!...any seconds?... |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
I 2nd that!! ;D

Re: Full Transom Measurement
Hey, I got up from the computer yesterday and went outside too, do I get an atta boy?
I agree that you need a bracket on a V. I was just trying to find a way to cost cut. $230.00 instead of $800.00 plus. |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
Call around to boat yards and ask if they have a take off around? Thats were mine came from. $400
Came off a 23 Seacraft, guy added a twin bracket, I got his single ;) |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
Gotta find the right boat first.

Didja talk to Ocean Isle?...wouldn't need a bracket for that one... ;) |
Re: Full Transom Measurement
We have spoken via email.......I don't want to buy a boat without seeing it first, can't get there before the auction ends, so if no one bids, I'll go check her out in the next little bit. *I like it from the photo's and you are right, my motor would slide right on it.
