In The Delaware Bay

this Sunday, went out from Lewes about ten miles to
the flounder areas, not much action, didn't see anyone pulling any in.

BUT, I did see something very curious and if my friend didn't see it too,
I would think I was halucinating. :P
We were drifting along when next thing we see is what looks like a guy with a bald head wearing a brown
diving suit, and to top it off, we saw it in two different areas.
We know it wasn't a bald guy cause it would then disappear under the water
for long lengths of time.
Probably not a whale, no tell tale spouting.
It was at least six feet long, at least the part that we could see.
:-/

MSBHAMMER, have you ever seen this while diving?

Re: In The Delaware Bay

Some guys were talking here this morning about two arctic seals that beached and were captured about 20 miles north of here this weekend... unheard of... In the same conversation it was mentioned that manatees have been spotted in Boston area... my guess is maybe seals...

Not sure I'd have the courage to tell anyone I saw that in the Delaware Bay.

I'm thinking I'd be the last to admit it anyone.

Re: In The Delaware Bay

That's just it, there were two of us that definately saw it.
That is why I am willing to admit seeing it.

Maybe, just maybe it was Vinny from Philly and he was just swimming wit da fishes.

A Manatee was spotted this summer up here in NY??? Maybe one of those.

Re: In The Delaware Bay

Manatee may be a good bet. They breathe quietly with just their nostrels sticking out. Most of them have a tan color that could look like a taned head.

But that close to Phily, it was probably Vinny.

Re: In The Delaware Bay

Alot of Sea turtles have been in the area along with seals. Or maybe I was SLeep Diving again and snoozed on by you guys. Wife is going out of town this weekend, so I hope to be out all this weekend diving. Just need someone to sit on top the boat. Thought about it a few times diving in and leaving the boat, but with my luck, I would come up and see my V has floated away. ;D

Re: In The Delaware Bay

I have been looking at pix on the net,
I think it may have been a Harp seal,
the coloration looks the closest.

Re: In The Delaware Bay

Hammer, just tie up to one of those tankers or cargos that are anchored in the bay,
I'm sure they won't mind watching your V for a while. ;)

Re: In The Delaware Bay

You've described a horbor seal perfectly. We are inundated with them up here at times. When they get bad, the fishing is nearly impossible. They have been especially bad in the prime Striper feeding grounds on Cape Cod.

Re: In The Delaware Bay

I think you are right, checked the pix of them and
some look very close in color to what I saw.

No wonder the fish weren't biting.
