Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
Well boys, she is a great boat and a great motor. *My son and I along with a buddy in his boat (just in case we broke down) took the V out for a 2 hour cruise today. *My son has been out of school all week with a fever, luckily it broke today so we both could go.
I now have complete confidence that the motor is rid of any overheating problems. *I ran it for 2 hours at all speeds and it performed flawlessly. I would not hesitate to take the family offshore with this motor. I made a video of the trip also, I'll have to figure out how to get that on here. We went to Tuckertown Res. *The water, as you can see, was very muddy. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...101_0115-1.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...101_0116-1.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...101_0117-1.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/101_0118.jpg Deep in the heart of the Uwharrie Mountains http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/101_0119.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/101_0123.jpg I think this might be Fishbone Jr's place. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/101_0120.jpg |

Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
Looks great RM!! Congrats! I knew I should have bid on that one! LOL! ;D ;D
BTW how does the Pilot pull her? I am wondering how my wife's MDX will pull a V since I sold my truck and have a car currently. Thanks! Scott |
Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
The Pilot does a great job. You have to be mindful of the tongue weight with the independant rear suspension, but it does fine.

I will be switching soon, I already have the Johnson off of the Starcraft. Kinda want to wait til I sell the Merc to take it off, I know people like to test run things before buying. Here are the hatch latches. *the starboard one needs replacing, but it still works. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/101_0124.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/101_0125.jpg |

Actually, RB, I's referrin' to when the lids are OPEN...if they swing all the way over on the cleats is when there's a problem ;) ...

Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
RM,
You could've started and ended the list at gas! Prices are rising again, just in time for our Spring fishing :'( |
Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
RB - thats great! Where'd you launch at Tuckertown? I've fished it a few times and we always launch near High Rock dam, but there are huge boulders just under the surface.....you should have seen my bro-in-law's 25hp johnnyrude bouncing up and down evertime the lower unit hit a boulder :o It was a miracle he didn't tear anything up. I've never had the V down there, just jon boats.
You probably launched down there off of hwy 49, which is much safer. I've never launched there. Boy I though High Rock was muddy, but I guess T-town is muddier! Bring that sweet V up to the Rock ;) |
Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
You are correct, I used the ramp that is right on 49.
There is plenty of water down on that end of the lake. It was 64 feet deep under the 49 bridge. They don't call it the "Muddy Yadkin" for nuthin. |
Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
I see you got a pic of my house while you were out today and if you look real close you can see me waving from the second floor window. I watched as you ran up and down the lake she looks good.

Its a trip! *I'm scared to death of that place! *But that is the place to catch the stripers. *Not a bad catfishin hole either. I did some research on how HR got the name High Rock. Before the lake was made (man made) the yadkin river ran where the dam is now. Tall Rock cliffs on each side earned it the name High Rock. Much of the rock cliffs are just under the surface of the water now. |
Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
I pondered also about how that lake could have possibly gotten that name

I have never striper fished, but I want to learn. |
Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
TT is the one with the boulders right under the surface near the dam.
HR has its own hurdles. 2.5ft Stumps in 3 ft of water ;D I've only caught a handful of stripers in fresh water. Reelapeelin is the resident expert ;) |

|
Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
If I could bottle that smell I would wear it as cologne ;D

Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
I guess my problem is that the smell of 2 stroke smoke reminds me of when I was a kid.
I grew up in an old, poorly insulated large house in the mountains of WNC that my parents heated with wood. *Two stroke smoke reminds me of having to cut wood year round so we wouldn't freeze in the winter. *I bet out of 52 Saturdays, we cut wood 40 of em. I was 16 years old when I realized my name wasn't "Getwood". |
Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
LMAO!
I guess you use one of those heavy 4-stroke chainsaws now right? 8) |
Re: Maiden voyage of the NO NAME (yet)
Maybe I can invent a faux 2 stroke scent for the 4-stroke guys that miss their old smokey motors :'(
