Turn off the snow machine!
If it's not too much trouble I'd appreciate it if one of the "gods" on this site would turn off the big snow machine thats moving across the northeast. It's gonna slow down my V20's trip west.

Re: Turn off the snow machine!
I just called the hauler on his cell. He is in New Jersey and said it's taken the last two hours to travel 20 miles. He's seen >15 wrecks, some of 'em pretty bad. You northeast folks be safe.

That is just one more reason why I live south of the Mason Dixon line. I spent 3 years in Massoftaxes or was that Massachusetts ;D and I saw enough snow to last me a lifetime. I was there for the 78 storm.

Re: Turn off the snow machine!
Randleman, it hasn't even left the guy's driveway and it's already insured for more than it cost me. Sort of a win-win situation for me.
If something horrible happens to the boat, I'll wait until spring then sneak into Kevin's yard in the dark of night, hook up Old School and... well... perhaps I shouldn't say any more. |

Hey now Tuna......I was going to offer to take you out fishing if you decide to see New England in the fall. Now I'll have to think about it. ;D So, speaking of insurance, I foolishly brought Old School here without thinking of that. What type of coverage did you get and from who? Any suggestions welcome. Rain turned to snow then to sleet here today. I left work just about 4 pm and the roads were some of the slickest I have seen since I moved out of Canada!!! |

Re: Turn off the snow machine!
Progressive has an "agreed value" policy, I think I pay around $230 a year for $10K agreed value.

Re: Turn off the snow machine!
So the agreed value means it does not depreciate, correct?
I did go through the Progressive site and get a quote something around the $230 range....... |

Re: Turn off the snow machine!
I wanted to get it done in a hurry cuz I thought the hauler would be there days ago. I went through the Farmer's agent locally and have it insured for ~ $10,000. The premium was $245.
Kevin, you probably felt safer. You bought OS from Willy and he doesn't come across as completely shady over the phone. Also you were towing the trailer yourself. I'm buying a boat I've never seen from a guy I don't know and having it hauled across the country by a someone named "Qball" that I've only talked to on the phone a few times. My wife thinks I'm too trusting... |

I don't know....willy was pretty shady. ;D He only made me coffee and I spent about 3 hours at his house. By the way, I think willy lives in a nature preserve or something. I drove down his street and the deer stared at me as I drove by then there were a bunch in his back yard. In any event I guess if I had an accident I would have been screwed. My last task is to get the trailer registered in CT. They require a VIN verification where they want to find a VIN number on the trailer. Well, the VIN/serial number sticker is long since faded on the trailer. In that case they would issue a new VIN but would inspect the trailer and determine the gross weight for it. If they determine it to be >3000 lbs it would need brakes, which it does not have. (It was registered for 2990 in NJ)If they issue you a VIN they give you a sticker and suggest you have the VIN stamped into the metal on the trailer.....SO....I borrowed some letter and number metal stamps from the machine shop at work and plan to stamp in the VIN/SN so that they can feel good about verifying it when I bring it in to register it. Gotta love Connecticut DMV.....not. |

Re: Turn off the snow machine!
I'd laugh but I'll probably have the same or worse experience with the warm and caring folks at CA DMV in a couple of weeks. (I'll make a note of your creative approach to the VIN issue.)
When are you taking those boys for their first ride on the boat?!?! I'm guessing they have already asked you that question! Lastly, I may take you up on your of a fishing trip on OS. Guess we'd probably have to invite Willy along... |

Re: Turn off the snow machine!
This from Shady Willy, not related to Slick Willie. Though we do have a similar interest 8)
We got about six inches of sleet, all day and night. Packed itself to about 4-5 and is so solid that this morning I drove my Superduty on it and it did not budge. I don't know for sure how to get it off my drive except what I did on a small area this am. use a small spade get under it and scrape and lift then haul chunks of ice. |
