Is this a good price?

I'm am currently looking at a 1976 V step Cuddy in fair shape for its year. Floor good, transom good, could use a new coat of bottom paint. Currently running a 1995 Johnson 112 special with T&T. Also has a like new Venture Roller trailer. Comes with 2 new batts' fishfinder top and 3 new seats. Seller is asking 3500 firm. I am looking for a good bay boat with alot of room and this seems to fit the bill. ??? ???

Re: Is this a good price?

Sounds good but you know pictures would be better! 112 may be a little low but would still push her. Billy Mac ;D

Re: Is this a good price?

Owner says about 28-30 MPH. Does this seem right?

Re: Is this a good price?

That would be top end. I have a Force 150 which translates to about a 135 and get top end of 35 with a full load. Cruise around 26-28 at 4200 rs. I'm not saying don't buy it because of the motor just don't expect to be a speed merchant. I was advised to stay away from the Force and I'm glad I didn't! billy Mac ;D

Re: Is this a good price?

As long as your good with a cruise in the low - mid twenty's, your looking at a great watercraft.

Re: Is this a good price?

Post some pics. of what your looking at. The price seems good.

Re: Is this a good price?

The motor may be a bit light on power but, overall the price sounds fair. You'll love the Cuddy. Buy it.

Re: Is this a good price?

Like all said you will be slow, but steady!!

Make sure that you have the motor checked out good before buying!!

Use it up and when she i dead or when you have some cash you can repower with what you want.

Good Luck!

Re: Is this a good price?

I have a 96 115 Evinrude on an 18ft Wellcraft Sport CC and without the T Top on flat water the top end was 30 mph. I doubt I will get that since I added the T Top. If your's is a V20 with a TT I would think you will probably top out at 25 mph ..........

Looks nice and nice single axle trailer. Go for it! Billy Mac ;D

Still inspect her good and if possible a test run.

Re: Is this a good price?

He wants $3500.00, show up with cash in hand. 3200.00, extra cash for bottom paint and getting her tuned up. Great find. ;)

Re: Is this a good price?

Looks like a new trailer.

Go do the "transom jump" and test run the motor. *Looks pretty good 2 me.

It is always best to "sea trial", but if you cant, pretend you are on the water, put motor in forward & reverse while its running to make sure gears work, turn the steering. *Sit in the captains chair and look stoic. Open a can of Beenie Weenies and see if you can choke em down while inhaling the 2stroke smoke.

Re: Is this a good price?

Looks worth every bit of askin'...always helps if you can get 'im down some, but I wouldn't walk away if he's FIRM ;) ...SUGGEST COMPRESSION TEST ON ALL MOTOR'S CYLINDERS AND CHECK FOOT OIL...Sea-trial if ya can...

W/motor tilted up, apply your weight to motor foot and LISTEN for cracking noise...too much and the transom's bad...my old '74 still holds my fat-a$$ w/ only a little bit of noise... ;D ...

Kajun 03-20-2007 07:12 AM

Re: Is this a good price?

yup compression test for sure....and seatrial..if he cant seatrial..knock $300 off ;D

msbhammer 03-20-2007 03:42 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

So did you decide to buy it ??

bobby2400 03-20-2007 08:05 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

Went to check it out today compression is 100,100,100,97 transon seems pretty solid when I did the shake test. I'm not sure if I mentioned it comes with a canvas top in very good condition. I'll post a pic of the top later. I guess I am now a new V owner :o

I'm already starting to think about how I can throw my money away. I'm going to get a power winch (need one due to some health reasons) any suggestions on size or model? I found this one on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...;rd=1&rd=1

msbhammer 03-20-2007 08:34 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

I should have bought a power winch myself. Thats how I think I pinched the nerve in my neck.

Or was it from Lisa's sex swing :-/ ;D

msbhammer 03-20-2007 08:39 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

Thats a nice price for the winch, but the power source, shouldnt that have a plug or something so you can plug it into your power source under the bumper ?? ???

Re: Is this a good price?

One of my friend uses a spare battery in the back of his vehicle. Just runs the power leads with aligator clips on the end and connects it while launching and loading.

msbhammer 03-20-2007 09:32 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

Seen a few trailer with a steel battery tray holder mounted on the trailer. Not a bad idea, just as long as somebody doesnt come along and steel your battery.

Kajun 03-20-2007 09:47 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

you could make a steel battery box and mount to your trailer then throw a lock on it.

macojoe 03-20-2007 10:20 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

I have one of them cheap winches and it worls like crap!!
This is were you get what you pay for!!

But any way as far as a power source, You can use one of ther battery jump starter things, Its great back up on the water if needed, and it will power the winch just fine!

That one looks better and its for marine, so I would hope it is made with some ss bolts? Bet its not.

Get what ever you can afford!! But I hate the things, everyone I know has more storys then not about them messing up!!

Find a ramp that allows you to drive on and you need nothing!

I havent met a ramp yet that has stopped me. Oh sure, the signs try to stop me, but they never do.

I have here!! the guy came out screaming!! Most don't say anything, but there are a few!

Re: Is this a good price?

I keep forgetting that you are up there where people own the ramps. Down here in Gods country, the PEOPLE own the ramps via the Wildlife Resources Commision.

I checked with all the other PEOPLE in the state, they don't mind if I drive my boat onto the trailer.

parishht 03-21-2007 09:48 AM

Re: Is this a good price?

My ramp is owned by the park owner, but he and his helpers get annoyed
with people who have roller trailers and don't drive on.

Their fealing is that this is a shared ramp and the quicker
you can get your boat on or off, the less complaints from people.

Same here...winch-loadin's about as popular as sandpaper boxer shorts...80 grit :o ...

Airslot 03-21-2007 02:55 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

Alright, I have to ask, whats an acceptable amount of time on the ramp? I can load (powerwinch) as fast as the next guy, and my trailer never gets wet ;)

Blue_Runner 03-21-2007 02:57 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

I'll go first - five to seven minutes. Over 10 and I'm calling the tow truck to haul your @ss off!!

Mulv80 03-21-2007 02:58 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

I never drive my boat on the trailer. I get the bow lined up on the first set of rollers and crank her on.

Mulv80 03-21-2007 02:59 PM

Re: Is this a good price?

2-3 minutes to get her off the trailer and 5 minutes to put her back on.

Re: Is this a good price?

the only time you see winch a boat on is if the motor's broken
