 Flushing the 9.9hp Johnson

This is my 1975 9.9hp Johnson longshaft kicker motor. *I always run it is fresh water as soon as I get home from a saltwater trip - whether I run it in salt or not.
I took a quick video with my phone this time. *Here it is: http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d7...0408071518.flv |

So the blue barrel does work,
my buddy has an older inboard and you cannot use muffs, I have a couple of the 55 gallon blues in my barn and that looks like just what he needs. Thanks for the video. |

 Re: Flushing the 9.9hp Johnson

Yes this was an old container my one of my brother in laws got me. It was my first bait tank :D A really shoddy one at that. :-/
But on my 17fter it fit on the swim platform with a bungee cord and stayed out of the way nicely. Now it just spends its life as a flush barrel. ;D Stinky, I thought you had an Evan Root? |

 Re: Flushing the 9.9hp Johnson

I thought the idea of flushing the motor was to get rid of the salt, silt and other foreign material that you don't want in the motor?
Using a barrel like that to flush only recirculates it thru the motor. Muffs allow a constant supply of fresh clean water to remove whats inside. Just my 2 cents worth. |

 Re: Flushing the 9.9hp Johnson

Turbo, well I must say my preferred method for flushing is an evening cruise on high rock lake sippin on a coooooold coooooool beer. :D But also I think you'd agree that the barrel flush has to better than nothin right?
Thing is, I've tried the small motor on muffs - it didn't draw water as much as I wanted. Maybe I need baby muffs?? Do they make em small? Blue Flusher |

 Re: Flushing the 9.9hp Johnson

You are correct a barrel flush is better then no flush at all, and I am sure that the barrel flush is probly more then adaquate since the junk will be diluted.
I have never had to look for a set of baby muffs, will take a quick look for ya. And a big HECK YEAH to that coooooooooooold cooooool one. ;D |

By the way your link is doing the same as mine. It must be a time stamp thing they got going to prevent people from doing what we are. ;D You looking into getting one of those flushers? |
