HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
I noticed on my first two fishing trips with my V-20 that is drifts differently than any other boat I have ever owned.
Other boats I have had drift with the stern to the wind and seas, my V drifts almost beam to seas (sideways). *Every time, no matter which way I turned on the way into the seas for the next drift, it ended up with the port side between 45 and 90 degrees to the waves. The first time out i didn't pay much attention to it cause it was very calm in the ocean and my CEO and 2 girls were sunbathing on the front deck, but the second time there was a breeze and it still drifted weird. Anyone else? |
Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
well my first question is do you have an enclosure or bimini??? if my enclosure is on it acts like a sail and drifts with the wind. if not mine always seems to drift sideways like you said. with the bow forward a little bit. kinda on a 45 degree angle with the current :-/

Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
I have a top, but it was not on.
That is just how mine does, as you described. |
Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
Mine generally takes the same attitude. Actually, it makes it easy to drift 3 or 4 lines with the stern corner being the center.

Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
Enclosure on mine tracks straight as a stick with an occasion turn of the "rudder".
Otherwise same as yours. |
Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
Same here side ways all the time!! I have friends that hate it, But like Air it allows all to get there lines on one side and drift nice!
You are not alone!! ;) |
Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
I think it has to do w/ the deep-V of these boats..resistance is spread from bow to stern, whereas w/a shallow draft boat, more resistance on stern w/ motor down...thus stern into wind...

Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
If a wind-drift, sometimes it can be altered by turning your wheel one way or another ;)...

This year, I am going to try some homemade drift anchors, 5 gallon buckets connect by line to the rear traile tie downs. |

Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
Mine tends to drift bow first, meaning we are hanging our line off one of the back corners. But this all depends on the tide and winds.

Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
my 18 does that also..not so much side to waves but about 45 degrees..

Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
I was drifting thru the rips and they were pretty steep, it was ok but we were drifting like you guys say almost beam to.
My buddy took my 5 gallon pail and the line I use for launching the boat and walked out front thru the windshield and thru it in the water, we ended up drifting with the bow taking the waves and it was nicer. When the wind came up and I had the bimini and front part of the enclosure on it drifted better also. |
Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
With the top up, my V-like boat drifts stern to the wind.

Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
I've not been here in awhile but thinking on it mine drifts pretty mjch the same way smoother than any boat I've ever been on in any seas room for plenty of lines off the side glad to be back with you all

Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
Welcome back.
There are a lot of people that pop in and out, but I think we all agree, a V owner is always welcome. Are you close to Stinky-Hooker? |
Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
I'm always either under way getting there or trolling. I will drift a bit take notice next time I'm out.

Re: HOW DOES YOU V DRIFT?
I like to bottom fish, my wife says I can fish often if I keep Grouper and Snapper in the freezer.......so I often drift, but I will put out a couple of lines w/ ceegar minners and grab a few kings and mahi's while I'm at it.
