Looks good. Good work. ;)

Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
One thing I never figured out...early (70's) models w/ no flotation, and minimal liner weigh the same as later models w/full flotation and substantially more liner ... all same @ 1920 lbs ::) ...Oh well I guess there are just some things we not sposed to understand ;D ...

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...milies/lol.gif Sorry, I couldn't help but laugh. Nice catalog, thanks for putting that up for us. |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
Seeing that catalog reminded me that there is also an '83 catalog so I decided to have another look at it.
http://www.wellcraftv20.com/gallery/...1983&id=A4 Check out the port side seat and box that you guys have asked me about -- it was original equipment (or at least an option), as I suspected. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ft/1983V20.jpg |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
came standard on mine.

Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
Says that the I/O weights 700 pounds more, they must have included the motor in that weight??
I don't think a full transom would add that much weight? Reel why would or does the 70's have less of a liner? the liner has to be deeper in the boat then the newer stuff , and has no foam, so the newer stuff has less of a liner but foam right??? |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
Think about the area under the gunwales in early '70s and how little glass there is under the dash...now consider the newer Vs ...the cap in one piece is the gunwales, floor-deck, foredeck, dash and bulkheads under dash...it just seems to be a LOT more there, PLUS the weight of the foam ... it's about GOTTA weigh more, but the outboard cuddy is always 1920 lbs... ::) ...

Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
I still want one of those dam boxes. you think I could call Wellcraft and see if they got any lyin around :-/
|
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
Go for it, you never know?? But I bet they don't!!
They might be able to tell you who made them?? I am sure they had contracted someone to do it and they just installed. |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
Ozzie been thinking about your querie while sipping some Jack, thats how I be doing my best thinking by the way.
The top cap, inner liner would also be part of the structural integrity of the later V's, I'm willing to bet a few bucks that the earlier designs without them had thicker glass and reinforcement wood etc. to give them the same structural integrity. Just a thought, plus the glass matt used in earlier boats may have been a heavier weave or older style(heavier weave) thru the inner lay up for the same reason. |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
Willy, you got a point...but remember Franco's brother sayin' the lower hull w/stringers made up the ENTIRE structural rigidity of the boat and that it didn't rely on inner liner...course he was talkin' about a different boat mfgr...so, could be ;) ...
...and speakin' of the Pubah...where de FLOCK is he!?... |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
Yea he was talking about the Pursuit, much different boat in every way.
And I don't know On Capt. Norton. Maybe Robin is Biatch slapping him around and he is in hiding ;D He never returned my calls from here or when we were down in Lewes. Maybe I am out of the loop :'( |

Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
Ozzie, spoke with Puhbah yesterday, all is well, been real busy with work stuff, job changes possible so he has not had much time for socializing or the site.
He says Robin is missing me something awful though ;D |

Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
well I don't think the liner is were the weight comes from in the newer boats, were I think it is coming from is the stringers!!
I was able to look at a newer 80 ?? and wow what a lot of room under the floor! I bet us with the older boats don't have 1/2 the room under the floor as the new ones! Need much taller stringer system then the old for that. |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
That's more to add to my point...old/new...same weight...howzat ??? ...
|
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
Old, * more glass, more liner, less stringer
New, *less liner, more stringer, lighter glass == the same *;D Or they just could have wanted to save money and not change the sticker?? Now that we have that solved, why is I/O 700# more, are they including the motor in that weight?? |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog

That's what I'd figure ...doesn't 700 sound about right for motor and drive :) ...all that could easily add up to 700 or more lbs ... :) ... |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
I think so also there is a full transom also!
|

Controls and thicker stringers to hold motor I would think?... |
Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog
I/O weights are always listed w/ the motor. Outboards are always weighed nekkid. Not sure why, but I think its that way with all makers.
