Re: USCG
its like when they dont search the arab at the airport cause they dont wanna offend him. but, they search the 2 year old toddler! the difference between a toddler and a terrorist is that toddlers wear diapers on thier butts. terrorist wear them on thier heads.
and i wouldnt say you look like a terrorist. but, you do look like ur up to something!lol |

Re: USCG
About 17 years ago my wife and I decided to take our 4 year old daughter on a camping trip to a nearby barrier island (Beach Hammock).
My father and his wife decided to do the same but they would sleep in their boat. We had a 16’ trihull and Daddy had a 21’ Sunbird, so he suggested we put everything in his boat except the tent. Needing to go to the store for something he suggested that we go ahead and they would catch us about the time we got anchored there. Well they never showed. We returned to the dock and checked the house, no one home, so we returned to the island thinking we had passed them. By now it’s sunset and low tide and I wasn’t willing to attempt a night run either across the sound or the back creeks with a 4 year old in the boat. So we anchored and covered up with the tent and used life jackets for pillows. The coast guard had boarded his boat and after inspecting it found the port bow light was out, daddy got under the deck, wiggled the wire and the light worked. Well the commander then said “there is beer in the cooler, he must be intoxicated”, so they drove his boat to the dock of their choosing (after running it aground) to await the county police to do a breathalyzer test. While attempting to dock the coast guard rammed the boat twice on the float and daddy shoved the driver out the way and docked his own boat. The police did not have the equipment so they had to take him to a neighboring town. During this we had passed them looking for them, their boat was hidden from view behind the dock and other boats. His wife could see us and asked the coastguard to alert us by way of the bullhorn. Their response was “that’s not our problem” as we passed trying to find them. Well about 30 minutes later we passed by again going back to the island, she pleaded the second time to please alert us, same response. After 4 hours of being detained they were released. Well his wife demanded a report of these actions and received one which included the grounding, busting a floor hatch, ramming the dock and the fact he had to dock his own boat because personnel were incapable of it and it stated that daddy did not appear intoxicated at time of boarding. By now the fog had set in. This is before GPS and cell phones and I didn’t have a VHF radio. Daddy tried to find the island but had to return home because of the fog and rough seas. She sent letters (expecting apologies) to the coast guard with copies of the report and received no response. As far as local authorities having the jurisdiction that’s not the case, the coast guard can go where they please and do as they please. |
Re: USCG
you have GOT to be kidding me. they towed you home for a bad fire extinguisher. :o :o :o >:(
sorry man how was the rest of the trip? |

Re: USCG
gotta love photo shop. The only thing worse then the puddle jumpers here in GA is the DNR. The coasties try and enforce fed regs on state water and yes, they don't mind towing you in. My boat, 67 wellcraft did not come with a bow light, and for years ran with only the side markers. Well, part of the reason she was out of the water to begin with, before the needed repairs, is, I was told in no uncertain terms the nexttime I was seen w/o a bow light, the boat would be towed and I would be fined.
On the other hand, we( the fire department) can never get the Cg to assist in marine rescue or firefighting. But they'll bully up and board and fine us. THANKS FOR NOTHING |
Re: USCG
sean now were talkin ..... i look like a friendly terrorist tho ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Re: USCG
Not all officers are like that, but give a new law to SOME of em and they'll bend it around the situation. Case in point Slinger...

Re: USCG
Just as bad as the CG,
the cops here in Berks county are getting wierd, it was three AM and I was heading to the airport to catch a flight, I was going a little faster than the speed limit on a freeway and they pulled me over just to give me a warning that they are watching this particular stretch of road. Now today on my way to work, there were ten local cops all with people pulled over all within a quarter mile on a major artery. What the F is going on? |
Re: USCG
I'll have to say with all my years on the water I have never had any issues with the CG. I even was pulled at 1:30am with 16 people in a 19 foot boat (just a little over loaded) and they let me go. They let me go because I did have enough live vest. The only other time my fire extinguisher was low and they just said to go out and get a new one, but now that I think about it I was allready at the dock comming in.

Re: USCG
Lumber...you did right by keeping your cool. I'd be writing a friendly email to the CO of the local CG station inquiring why the need to tow you home? There has to be a better use of the CG's time and fuel. I think somebody made a bad judgement call on that one. Did they give you a fine or warning?

Re: USCG
If you want to have real fun, be a commercial fisherman and try to convince a coast guard personel of the species of fish you are taking.
I know two commercial fisherman that swear these guys were trained in Maine or Oregon to qualify to identify fish in Georgia. |

Re: USCG
my bud is a captain for jon e graham and sons. he runs a 140' crew boat. one day coming into venice harbor he got a call from one of his sister ships letting him know that the CG was in port and were boarding with dope dogs. my fast thinking bud called all his hands and transports into the wheel house and instructed everyone to bring thier weed to the galley. he then had them break up thier bags and took all the seeds and stems. put them in a pot and boiled them. he then had his deck hand mop the deck with the tainte4d water.
he said that as soon as the dogs came aboard they went absolutely ape sh!t! scratching at the deck and fighting with each other. doug became immediately concerned and in no uncertain terms demanded that the dogs be removed from his vessel before they hurt someone. or worse yet, his boat. he said the look on the cg guys face was priceless. that he became very appoligettic and they all walked away with thier tails between thier legs. |
