Most powerful fish pound for pound.

What fish do you all believe pulls the hardest pound for pound. Here is my short list
	1. Atlantic spadefish 2. False albecore (anything in the tuna family) 3. amberjack Ive caught lots of these above. *Never caught a bonefish but Im told they get outa dodge in a hurry as well. * So lets hear some opinions? |

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

Pound for pound for me so far is the hybrid stripers we have in fresh water here, will bend your rod until you have them in a net in the boat. Will come clear out of the water by at least 2 feet and dance on top trying to shake you off like a sailfish.
But there are a bunch of other fish I have not caught. A hook jawed wild rainbow in the Delaware river runs on a fly rod will test you to the limit and a big Lake Trout will break your rod if you don't get him up in the first minute or so from a deep lake. As a matter of fact if you hook into a real big one and don't get him turned from bottom in the first minute you are going to loose him. If you get him turned with heavy enough tackle and get him up 50-60 feet then he loses strength fast due to nitrogen in his system. |

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

No I dont have a V-20 but I have always admired them. Im a fan of the Cuddy V-20's. *My current ride is a Maritime Skiff 20D. Its a great ride as well. I live on Virginia's Easten Shore.
A friend of mine showed me this site and I have been "lurking" here for awhile & figured I might as well jump in....... ;) |

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

Ive caught smaller Jack Crevalles ( 5 to 10 lbs.) and they do pull hard. Anything in the jack & tuna families are strong.

Forgot about the Jacks, very strong fish. How big do they get?

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

		Tuna tops the list.
Blue fish are also up there, pound for pound a blue fish is 3x as strong as any striper. imagine a 4olb blue fish :o Unforunetly all of your heavy hitters, exspecially the tuna, have a very low mortality rate after being caught. They literly fight to the end, and once released have no energy to revive them selves. |

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

I havent caught Tuna yet, but I am sure they will be my #1 then.
as for now, though... 1 Jack Crevalle 2 Amberjack 3 for me its a tie between (as much as I hate em) Bluefish or a Hardtail, aka Blue Runner |

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

I've caught 2 blue runners and they were 1 lb but fought like 5 lbs :o

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

I have surf fished from Cape Henlopen in Delaware and
caught some huge skates. When you hook them, they swim up and down the beach and all you can do is yell to people to get out of the way, cause you are running full speed with (surf) rod in hand. When you finally land that sucker, you are so disappointed cause you figured it had to be a huge shark. Here is a link to a UK fishing charter specifically for skate, it shows the size that skates can grow to. http://www.skatefishing.co.uk/info.htm By the way, did you know that Europeans eat skates? |

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

I'd have to say Spadefish. Bluefish are certainly up there as are Tuna's. Blue Marlin are not for us ordinary folks, but that first run can be incredible. Maritime Skiffs are some fine boats. Since yours is a 20' and this is a V-20 site you sort of fit in. I'm on the shore as well.

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

tinny, i dont know how big jack crevalle get but i was down on singer island a few years back and there is a huge "domesticated" school of them swiming around sailfish marina. some of them had to go close to 30-35 pounds. theres a guy who pushes an ice cream cart on the bulked who sells one dollar bags of bunker or ballyhoo.
bought me a bag of hoo and hooked one to the business end of a stout 20 pound spinner. tossed it to em and got a good sized (25 - 28 pounder) pick up. gave a five count, set thew hook and BOOM! son of a gun stripped off 350 yards of mono and when he got to the spool all you heard was "PINK". * * * * * GONE! 8 pounds of drag and cupped the spool and never even slowed him down. |

thing musta fought like a phukkin freight train. |

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

Have caught them at the Ches. light tower while fishing for amberjack that were in the 35 lb. range. *We thought they were amberjack while hooked up and they ALL fight hard so I cant say there was much difference between the two. *Jacks are wreck donkeys!
thanks for the welcome. I do like My M-Skiff. Its got a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke and sips gas while being a very able and easy to fish out of boat. I fish shallow water allot and it suits my kinda fishing. Back in the mid 90's I was trying to decide between a new V-21 and a 21.5 Kencraft Challenger. I ended up getting the challenger and used it until this Summer when I sold it in favor of the M-Skiff. The Challenger was a Tank but ended up being more boat than I needed for most of the fishing I do, and I bought a older smaller boat for my shallow water fishing so I had up keep on two rides. Looking back I should have gone with the V-21. I would probably still have it if I had. A friend ended up buying the V-21 I was looking at. He kept it for about 7 years and then sold it in favor of a Parker CC. He regrets the trade now.. |

Re: Most powerful fish pound for pound.

Shore-Power, I will second the spades at the Light Tower. I have caught many different species and pound for pound I have yet to see anything that compares. Each year it seems I have someone new on the boat who has never caught one and from then on that's all they want to fish for. They are tasty to boot.
