General Site Slowness.

Guys - I believe I've figured out some of the problem with the site "slowness". There are several folks that had custom Avatars that are 150kb + each (some over 1 mb) and hosted on photobucket. For one page to load when you click on a topic . . . your PC must download all of these images making the board appear SLOW. When photobucket is slow . . . our forum was incredibly slow. So . . . I disabled these avatars to see if things improve.

Please keep me posted.

Thanks,
Bigshrimpin

Re: General Site Slowness.

That might explain some of the slowness to the different thread navigation, but there are times that I can't even get into the main forums at all as well as the specific forums. Those navigation clicks don't involve loading the avatars. ???

CB is right. In fact, it just stalled on me after hitting the reply button. Additionally, it stalls even coming into the forum from the first screen...

The avatars may have contributed to the problem, but I don't think they're the root.

Stalled on me as well earlier when I clicked the reply button. Took it a good 5 minutes, then it popped up like normal.

Yeah - I just couldn't get here for the last 15minutes . . . I'm going to call tomorrow and start investigating other hosting services. classicseacraft.com is hosted with omnis too, and that was down during the same time. Someone is FCK'n with the gallery too . . . I'm going to see if they will allow me better the logs b/c this is unacceptable.

one thing ai have noticed, whether I'm using the computer at work or home, is that when it starts slowing down and hanging up, I can run a spyware program on my computer( mostly tracking cookies, no major threats) and when I log back on to this site, its a whole lot faster.

When it gets too slow for me I just go over to the Bayliner forum.

Funny, I go over to the Aquasport forum, but those guys don't do much posting. It's very quiet for the most part. Here, even though the site is slow, at least there's always something new to read... Gotta love this forum!
