Every now and then I get lucky....
I caught this one on my last fishing trip off my dad's boat 3 weekends ago... this hog is only a tad over 41" but I've been having fish for dinner ever since ;D
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...J/DSC00012.jpg Just figured I brag a little ::) Especially since fish like this don't happen often. Oh, for the Hampton Roads guys, he was caught off of Cape Henry in about 35' of water. |

Got'm w/ a mojo

Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
JeffXJ, lets see how many not from the region can figure out what a "mojo" is, and Franco don't count. I think thats a local term.

Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
long skinny sinker that goes on the leader, has a rubber insert so you can have it on the end of the line or far up the line. Or you can let it move up and down the line.
Use with plastic or rubber baites, great for weeds and rocks. I have never used them but have heard about them. Looks like the work well!! We use rubber core sinkers around here, for almost the same thing. |
Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
MJ, not even close. Have a feeling that we have a different Mojo working around the mouth of the Chessy.

Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
I think he means he just simply "willed" that fish on through the efforts of positive thoughts and psychological energy..........or something :-/

Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
I posted a fishing report in off topic about yesterday at Rudee.

Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
It was a combination of the fish dance, my natural mojo baby, and the right fish whistle *::) as well as something that looked kinda like this http://www.customsaltwaterlures.com/ with a 12" shade body on the hook that convienced this one. This is what we call a mojo
Or it could've been stupid luck.... ;D ;D ;D *seeing how that was the only fish we caught all day * :-/ |
Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
Since XJ let it outa the bag, we fish a large parachute ( 16 to 48 oz ) with a swinging hook and a 9 or 12" shad on it. THat is usually on a 3 way swivel, the other leg of the swivel trails a more convential bait like a bucktail or tomic lure, one of my favorites.
Airslot Betcha Billy Mak knows about tomics... |
Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
I didn't let the whole secret out :P
|
Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
I know about tomics but do not use them. I'd have to say that 95 % of our walleyes are caught with bottom bounces and crawler harnesses. Never had much lot with lures but some guys up here that's all they use. Bill Mac ;D

Re: Every now and then I get lucky.... all the tie
http://www.mojolures.com/
I use parachutes all the time, Never have used anything on the end before? We use 5 oz on a wire line set up, and jig at a slow speed 3 mph. when there not biting this is the way to do it, will bring up a fish every time!! |
Re: Every now and then I get lucky....
Nope thats no Mojo MacoJoe. ;D The local MOJO thing got started years ago when we used to pull spoons behind a three way swivel. We used heavy sinkers below the 3 way to get the big spoons down deep. Then someone decided that since we had this weight bouncing on the bottom they might as well have a hook on it an so large bucktails / parachutes w/shads were used to replace the weight below the three way. Works good on stripers at times.
