Who owns a V20 still?
(steplift20 ). I do , a 1988 with a 150 1988 Mercury outboard 2 stroke of course.
1992 with a 115 Yamaha. Motor is takin’ a sh!t this year. I’m gonna try and dump it this year. Coming out next weekend. Needs a bit. I’m gonna take whatever.
Dump the boat or dump the engine?
What is wrong with the motor? 4 stroke? I don't like 4 strokes or EVs |
Still got mine only been out twice in 2 months
Year?motor?
Me too haven't been out much myself |
Still have mine. ‘86 (maybe ‘85 - can’t remember), 170 I/O. Hasn’t been out for a few years - finally cleaning out shop to get it in and work on it. Long story short, it was overheating because I let the impeller get old and crumble. Got that fixed and almost rammed a shiny new boat at the dock because the choke stuck. Even Spare hasn’t been able to source a replacement part, other stuff took over and the boat’s been sitting. I’m thinking I may have to find a really long choke cable and rig it for manual choke.
I thought it was about ocean ready: new alternator, water pump fixed, new hot ignition, new 15 horse kicker for backup power (which I used several times during the overheating episodes), newer GPS/sonar, etc. I have a couple of fishing buddies with boats, but I really miss the great ride of the V. |
Still here, of course and still have mine!
Yep, still have the 3 mentioned in my Signature. 87 V20 is up for sale, but not selling the Airslot or the V21/.

I have my Grandfather’s ‘86 V20. Repowered it with a 2020 Yamaha 200 and still run it nearly every day in the Patuxent River.
Now there’s a happy story - grampa’s boat, nice new, plenty powerful motor and using it a lot. I don’t think it gets much better than that.
Djdixon, that boat is priceless.
Love to hear that |
Still have my 1977 V20,170 I/O, since 06. Replaced the lower unit with a SEI replacement and new batteries. Gave it a good cleaning in the spring. Still looks great. Been busy this summer, rebuilt the kitchen in our 106 year old house. Ripped it out to the ground and built it back. Finishing it up now. Hope to get back on the river soon.
Still here, still have my '87 cuddy. 200 v8 i/o and its in the process of a full restoration. It's actually being re gel koted as we speak. I went with white bottom, Sea Hunt's Slate Blue for the mid section and Wellcraft's Off-White for the top side. getting it back soon, then putting it all back together.
JJ, you gotta post some pics of that. Sounds gorgeous.

1984 V20, Powered by a V6 135 HP Etec HO
1989 V20 with a 92 Merc 150hp
Still have my 1989 anniversary edition V20 with a 92 Merc 150hp, still loving it and using it every other week in the Southern California Pacific Ocean! I keep thinking of putting a 4 stroke on it but not sure it's worth the investment when the 2 stroke still gets the job done but just a little embarrassingly smoky at times...lol
Find an Etech!
still have my 86 Cuddy w/ 01' Mecruiser 4.3L
steplift 20
I've still got mine, with an evenrude 150. Havn't been out much either. Good to have around for extra small projects. Has new paint now, exc.

Dmoore, why would you sell that beautiful vessel? I would never sell her |
As I stated, I could no longer keep her inside. So rather it go to hell outside I decided to sell.

Dmoore, didn’t you buy bgreenes boat? From what I seen that boat is in near perfect condition, you did good.

I still have my 1980 V20 Center Console with a 2014 Optimax 200 and getting her ready for a paint job :sun:
Nice!!
Post some pics,Builder. |
Still have my 86 cuddy with a 1990- ish mercruiser 5.7L. Bought in 2017 and I’ve been enjoying it a lot. Previous owner did the re- power and replaced the transom, and engine stringers. He didn’t touch the other stringers and bulkheads which were rotted out. Hull seems to be holding up fine regardless. Who else is running on rotted stringers and bulkheads?!
I still have my 1994 V21. The boat is 30 years old and I've owned it for 20. She's still as solid and sexy as ever.
I've owned my 1984 cuddy since 2004. I'm at least the third owner. The owner immediately prior to me only had it for 1 year. It's outfitted with an 2002 200hp Mercury V6.
