"Standard Fire Extinguisher Compartment"

Question , This is stated as "Standard Equipment" on the V20 Brochures ?

Where is it , or should it be located ?

I have a small Dry Chem Ext. mounted on the cabin interior wall.
Sure don't have a recessed compartment for a Fire Ext.

I think this is what the brochure refers to. They were usually located on the side of the inner hull by the pedestal chairs

Boy that's a Pricey item... ($157.00 w/o Extinguisher)
Made out of Starboard !!

Have you seen any V20's with that (or similar) installed by factory.

I'll have to check the Gallery photos to see I spot any.

Thanks for the Reply.

Found this one, Plastic and a bit cheaper.

I don't know if other years had them but my 87' V20 has a factory mounted one on the port side gunnel just over the rod holders midway between the chairs and the stern. I'd send a pic but my boat is covered for the winter.

Thanks "D".
When you get it uncovered, and you remember,
Please send a Pic, would appreciate it.

Just have never seen this "Factory Extinguisher Compartment" in any V20 photos. (and I have a Bunch !!) Curious to see what you have.

I had an 87 and it was located on the starboard side, right behind the operators seat. If I can upload a pic, I can give you and idea how it looked.

look where I had the blue line. Not a great pic, but it gives you a roundabout idea.

phatdaddy 01-17-2021 07:23 PM

That s it Cam, i ve seen them ther and on the port side and horizontally above the rod boxes like D has. I have also seen them in the rear corners on the gunnells.

The ones wellcraft used were the cheaper ones made out of the same stuff the bait boxes were made of

Thanks Guys, Gives me some idea what they looked like.
But were NOT mounted in any ONE, Standard Place,,,,

Hey Cam, like the Rod Holders attached to Bimini Frame.
Look like Stainless.
Were they custom made, or available from a Vendor ?

SkunkBoat 01-17-2021 08:41 PM

my 84 cuddy did not have those. Exstinguisher was mounted on the "armrest" bumpout ( near the pictured one) with the strap that comes with a Kidd exstinguisher.

Your 79 will have a different hull liner.

cmk245 01-17-2021 09:05 PM

Yeah I noticed the difference's in the liners into the 80's
There is ALOT of things changed when the 80"s boats were made.

I was looking to add Teak Step pads on my gunnels.
But I don't have the wide flat top area. Like Cams boat is. my top area is raised, and is only about a 1-1/2" wide,

Could mount something along side that area. Boat is a Bear to get into. from the outside. Have a milk crate for now to step on inside, have no rear seats to use. Had BOTH my knees replaced, don't move like I used to...
Want to put a step pads on flat edges and put non skid strips on gunnel top.

Have removable 2- step Garlick inside. boarding setup that I plane to be able to switch between both sides as needed. Has slots / hooks, to hang steps onto. Can remove when not used.

Will have to get some pics on here to clarify.

Oops, screwed up replied twice, sorry.

SkunkBoat 01-17-2021 09:20 PM

'70s decks did not drain overboard. They raised the deck and changed the hull liner or "Cap" to bring the gunnels up the same distance. If I remember the 70s Cap and deck were separate pieces.

cmk245 01-17-2021 10:06 PM

Yeah I believe I asked the question, about them a while ago (on here), about the deck drains. wanted to have them drain overboard, but are too low. Drain into bilge now.

No plans to raise deck at this point yet. Have to replace the wood Battery box shelfs, because of all that water coming in across them thru stringer hole.
Gonna have to pull motor and drive to get in there to check it all out and repaint bilge area.
Boat was stored outside, uncovered, before me, maybe years., and drains were plugged both sides with leaves and debris.
And drains on this boat are very important !!. since all go into bilge.

My old (1976) Aqua sport had overboard drains, but that was a O/B.
470 I/O, I'm dealing with. But Transom seems solid.
Will confirm after I pull Gimbal housing and motor.

Was planning on doing that anyway, just so I know what's there to be repaired.
Did get the Boat on Craig's list for FREE....got it from a storage yard. owner moved and left it and never paid storage. Got good bones, needs a bit of work. lol

I might be mistaken, but I believe that RWilson2526 made a post several years ago that showed his fire extinguisher mounted in a position just like mine. You might want to do a search on these forums.

Not stainless. They were aluminum with the plastic rod holders. It held up very well under some strenuous conditions at times. Very inexpensive. I think around $100. Mounted very easily. I loved it. I bought it online as suggested by a member here. I will look and see if I can find the site again.

Found this with simple search: Bimini top rod holder.

Thanks Cam
Will check them out for later, Listing states 1" tubing.
My Bimini frame is 7/8", maybe will tighten down.
