Getting ready to part with the old girl
Basically I've taken her out once in the last 2 years since getting the trawler. She deserves better than that. Gonna tighten up a few little things before she goes. Would like for her to go to someone who truly appreciates her, not just some jackass on craigslist. I'm way too sentimental about her. She has some cool custom touches from the refit back in 2013 and in my opinion could easily and inexpensively be one of the sweetest V20s out there if someone wanted to take her just a little further. If you've been holding out for a deal this is it. If you're thinking about a project, let me save you tens of thousands not to mention your time. I'm prepared to lose my *** investment wise. Someone here though I'd give an even more of a sweetheart deal. I never did learn how to post pics here and I'm basically offline most of the time. If someone is serious about her call me and I'll be glad to tell you all about her, and try to email some pictures. I don't get texts, so you actually have to call. 912 650 0356

You really have done quite a nice job with it. Good luck with the sale. |
Thats 1 clean unit you got. Just curious what you are asking for her?
|
Wow nice! Price? I'm thinking about purchasing my 1st V-20.
|
Beautiful specimen Bradford, hate to see you sell after all these years. I may be following your lead within the next 2 years. I'm starting to get a bad case of twofootitis as my family is all grown up I really need something bigger.
|
Thanks for the kind words all, especially the old time members, gonna try some more pictures.
|
Never mind, still can't seem to figure this out.

The Good,
New poly fuel tank installed. Transom replaced. Cuddy deck replaced. All snaps, screw holes, antennae mount holes etc have been filled and sanded. Awlgrip paint, oysterwhite, matches the engine perfectly. Light blue deck. All decals/boot strip/pinstripes removed for a clean custom look. Custom in deck battery compartment forward of the fish box. Custom fiberglass anchor pulpit. Hawsepipe for anchor rode. New Seastar hydraulic steering system, used three times, butter smooth. New Taco rubrail with black insert. Deck drains plumbed to splash well eliminating two through hulls at the waterline. Dual 1000 MCA starting batteries. Non skid removed from all surfaces except the decks, makes cleaning super easy. 4 oversized 8 inch stainless cleats, stern and midship, factory bow cleat/lifting eye. Stainless through hulls. Two 1500 gpm Rule automatic bilge pumps. Aluminum tandem bunk trailer, less than 100 miles on the tires, newer axles, hubs, bearings, 1800 lb two speed winch with heavy duty winch strap, new wiring and lights, Stoltz keel roller, spare tire and rim. 2010 Evinrude ETEC 150, 25 inch shaft, stainless Solas 14.25 x 17 inch propeller, engine has less than 350 hours I'm pretty sure. I bought this engine brand new and any bolt turned on it was done by the dealer. All routine maintainence. Nothing but NON ethanol gas ever. 3 gallon oil tank with 3 gallons of HD 100 oil. New Racor filter and bowl. I have all the original cuddy cabin cushions, in good shape, could use some cleaning. I have the original rear lazarette storage bins. I had a new back to back lounge seat BUILT, NOT the cheap short one from Overtons. Full set of mooring lines and fenders, good ones, not cheap crap from Walmart. Two 8 lb Danforth anchors with rodes. Almost new black Sunbrella bimini top with boot. New trailer lights. Full tank of fresh NON ethanol gasoline. A folder full of receipts that I've never added up because I don't want to cry. The Bad, Should have the water pump replaced I feel, it's been a couple years, not much run time, but good to do. Gonna see about getting this done this coming week. Swim platform was replaced with an expensive fiberglass one which delamed the first year, To get us on the water with some friends I made a cheap one out of plywood and painted it white, and used the stainless hardware. It has held up so well that I never made another proper one. Custom hatch cover for the storage well in the cuddy has some flex as does the one for the battery compartment, really not too bad, but would be an easy glass job. Awlgrip in the very bottom of the splash well is peeling some. Varnish on the teak needs to be redone. I'll post some more when I can think of it. |
I spoke to Bradford about his boat, and she really sounds like a beautiful craft.
You can tell the passion that Bradford has for her, and all of the attention to detail in his work. It would have been a pleasure to own that craft. Whoever gets her will have a very nice boat and hopefully will appreciate all that has gone in to making the boat so special. I would have purchased her in a heart beat, but the price -- although very fair -- was out of my range at this time. (Translation = I wanted it, but my wife said I couldn't spend that much on a boat right now. Guess who won?) Bradford, if you would like me to post the pictures that you shared with me, I'd be happy to add them to this thread for you. I wish you luck with your sale. I can tell that you are a genuine person and you have put so much attention into your V20 that she deserves to go to a good home. -Philip |

I installed the new fuel tank yesterday, a new Racor filter and bowl, and a pair of 1000 MCA starting batteries. Put gas in the new tank and she lit off on the first turn of the key after sitting for almost a year. Gonna knock the price down to $6500 FIRM unless someone has a 25 or 26 panga hull or first generation Toyota Tacoma PreRunner they want to trade. That price is HALF of what I spent with Adam's Fiberglass Shop, and LESS THAN HALF of what I spent on the engine, so if I seem reluctant to deal please understand. |
Filled her up with gas and took her out yesterday evening. Reaffirms my reluctance to sell her. She leaps right on plane and cruises effortlessly at 30 knots/35 mph at 4500 rpms.

Cruising at 30 is sweet. I ended up purchasing Steve Larson's V20 -- I'm up on cape cod with it now. It's a nice, clean original V20 with 2003 4 Stroke. The site was down for a few days. I'll be in tomorrow, and look at posting your photos if I can. -Phil |
1st keep her ,,she is a beautiful boat and 2nd call on the phone and actually talk? How do you do that? ( I would not let her go. 6500 would be gone in secounds that vessel will last a very long time,,,,,keep her.)

Sounds like your getting ready to go full time T McGee.
Go for it Although, the V would be a great Munequita |

Thanks Phil for posting the pics and also your kind words. She's actually kinda dirty in those pics.
Well she sold a few days ago. I managed not to cry, but did have a huge lump in my throat. She'lll be living on freshwater on Lake Murray in South Carolina now. Super nice and knowledgable guy bought her and has joined the site. Phatdaddy, I'm pretty much there. The wife and I cruised the trawler this past winter for three months and it reaffirmed our desire to leave the rat race. It had crossed my mind to use the V20 in tow, but you should see the looks I get from some of the self righteous sailboaters when I show up at a dinghy dock with a 14 foot center console panga. I hope y'all let me still hang around here some. This is the best group of folks on the net. |
Well, damn...
|
Bradford, #1 congrats on the sell. I'm glad she the new owner joined and she's staying in the family so to speak. You know the sweet water will be a nice retirement for the old girl - not that she needs to take it easy lol. Knowing you and by the looks of her she will be plying the waters for many years to come!
And please, please, don't go anywhere. We all value you as a member here and have enjoyed all of your wonderful comeraderie and contributions to this forum over the years!!!!! Blue |

Glad you got her sold, I was tempted To come look at her. The 12 hour drive and the need for me to remove the small tank you put in and add a larger one held me back. The day the site went down I was planning on calling you. Logged in at my 10am break and the website wasn’t working, tried to find someone with you number on a few the v20 Facebook page with no success. She sounds like she is a good one and the new owner will be pleased |
Glad things worked out well for you and your V20....

I'm glad she went to a good home, but sorry that she's sold. Yesterday I just got back from two weeks on Cape Cod with the new-to-me Fish Beware that I purchased. I gave my old 18 foot fish-n-ski to my neighbor as a gesture of good will, but he really loved my V20 so much, that I came back here to see if yours was still available. Add to that, within the first three days, my old boat blew a head gasket, leaving my neighbor hungry for a new motor or a whole new boat. I feel bad for the guy, and am looking to see if I can help him find a good deal on a clean engine, or maybe even a new boat. I'm glad I didn't sell him my old boat. You ruin friendships if you *sell* your old boat to a friend and the motor blows, but you keep a good friend if you *give* them your old boat and they have trouble. I guess you never know, but the motor did have a water pressure gauge and a temperature gauge, so I still suspect that if he had more experience with the boat, he would have noticed the performance issues, seen an anomaly on the gauges and shut 'er down before catastrophic damage occurred -- I guess that comes with experience. Glad your boat went to a good home. I'll keep my eyes open for a nice boat or a good motor for my neighbor. Also, I'll start my own thread about my experience with Fish Beware. It's not a fully restored boat with all of the upgrades that you put into your boat, but she is a nice, clean, original boat that shows that it had lots of love and TLC over the years -- so it's the perfect boat for me to have, love and upgrade over time. With the money I spent refurbishing the trailer, plus the money on accessories like Bennett Trim Tabs, a new swim platform, raw water wash down pump, bronze through hull with a proper bronze seacock and clam shell through hull and more, I'll soon be at or above your your selling price, but outfitting a boat is part of the fun... plus, my boss (read WIFE), had given me a firm budget of what I could spend on a new-to-me boat, so it was important that I stick within that number, even if I later spend more money on refitting items and upgrades -- after all, *everyone* knows that when you get a new-to-you boat, the spending has only just begun! :-) Anyway, not to hi-jack your thread, I'll get back on topic. It sounds like you have a great setup with your Trawler and your Penga. If you ever head up to the Chesapeake bay or Potomac river, give me a shout, and maybe I can meet you on the water. Sincerely, -Phil phil at pjb3 com (theres a dot in the middle) 703- six three 7 - Nine I Five Too (spelled funny so that bot's won't scrape my number, but people will figure it out) :-) Philip Brown Arlington, Virginia. Cheers! :sun: |

Thank you Bladerunner. I appreciate the help, glad to be here.

"Blue Runner", not Blade. My apologies.

Thankful for the opportunity
I'm new to the Wellcraft V20 family and happy to be here. I was lucky and blessed enough to be the purchaser of Bradfords V20. I had been looking for one for quite awhile and had talked to Aaron previously in May. I have to admit, with everything going on lately with Evinrude, I was a little skittish to pursue the boat. After doing some homework and talking to an Evinrude dealer in Orangburg, SC., a felt a little better.
After a few weeks, I gave Aaron a call and found the boat was still available. Maybe it was meant to be. After a previous career in yachting and growing up on Lake Murray, I can appreciate the time, care, expense and passion that Aaron had put into this V20. You can see by the pictures, this is a well-cared for boat and I have every intention to keep it so. After spending the afternoon with Aaron, learning about the boat and doing a sea trial, I felt that Aaron was the seller I had been looking for and I believe I was the buyer that he was hoping for. Aaron, thanks again. |
Glad you were able to log on!
Looking forward to seeing her continue on, she went to a good home. Should be sending some extra spare parts to you soon, just want to be sure I find them all. |
That would be great, thank you. All good on the trailer bearings, self taught on Saturday how to rebuild the hub. Learned that Northern Tool has everything you need.
|
well, they're supposed to....unless it is me and they'll have everything EXCEPT what I need lol. Same for every other big box store too.

I too am a new Wellcraft V20 steplift owner. I bought the boat that glarson on Cape Cod advertised, and I've been busy outfitting it as I'd like and taking it everywhere from Cape Cod to Virginia Beach. (mostly by trailer... of course!). I love the boat, and I'm thrilled to have it and be part of this forum. Enough hi-jacking of threads in the classifieds, I'll start my own "build" thread of sorts... in the regular part of the forum. Cheers! -Phil :sun: |
