Cast Style?

When surf fishing just wondered how do you cast and whats your range?

with Open Face i tried the Happy Gilmore run and sling, well i have figured out if i make 3 to 4 hard steps and sling the h@ll out of it i can throw all the line off my reel with 4 oz weight and 30 lb test. Reel says it hold 150 yards of 30 lb test

so what's your style and findings of easy or best ways to cast?

When chunk fishing I use the over the head method with a step forward ( every one in my office is looking @ me as I had to reinact to be sure :-[ ;D)
Throwing lighter stuff I use the side wip, with even a litle under hand mixed in..

Re: Cast Style?

Only thing I would add would be to let about 4-5 feet of line out prior to casting to get more "catapult" action.

Try the South of the Border Rocket Launcher method.

Go to the South of the Border in South Carolina and buy some rockets, attach to line and aim in the direction you want, light and when it reaches the distance you want close the bail and wait for it to explode.

Works every time. 8)

Get a potato cannon...freeze hooked bait and weight on a rig w/ swivel stickin' out...attach line to swivel, open bail, direct fire toward open ocean and ...BOOM!! :o ... close bail and GET READY ;) ...

H@ll lets just frag them, pick um up in a scoop net ::)

I saw them at a fishing show Oz, guy wanted big bucks for the compressed air version all set up on a pull behind surf fishing rack, little air compressor and battery. Special containers you put bait in and freeze. They looked like rockets with hooks imbedded in them. Can get out a few hundred yards with them.
I dunno, seems a little weird to me, too strategic, does not have the feel to me.

I don't surf fish much and never have, you will see that at hammers party!

I have a 10 foot Diwa Rod and a Penn 650SS 17# test line with a 30# shock leader, just load her up and whip it!

Willy, the potato cannon is one of those crazy ideas I've had for a while ... I's just KIDDIN'!! ... had no idea they were ACTUALLY shootin' bait out across the water
:D ...

One step forward to get my whole body working into the cast.
Nice fluid movement.

I've snapped some 50# test when the bail slips over.
Sounds like mother supperiors paddling.

and when that line snapps, your bait/lure will go further then you could ever imagine. The catapolt theory 10fold

I don't know how far I cast. The water is always to deep to step it off. :D

BR you can do as i do Cast it down a long field then measure it off. ;D

Yeah i've had the 25 to 50 snap and boy is that a loud pop and then as said your rig goes so far it's out of site. if they snap in the wind and it pops you in the face that really feels good ??? especially in the winter when your face is cold lol.

Not the line-snap but the extra distance...according to an old Rod-Maker/Repairer here, that's largely due to line-drag on the rod's eyes as it shoots thru them...he puts over-sized eyes on rods(particularly the small one on the tip) and SWEARS you'll get MUCH LONGER DISTANCE from this modification ;) ... he grew up in FL and says this is carry-over from back in the ol' days...I've seen some of the rods he's converted...looks a little strange, but also looks very effective ;) 8) ...

Reel he ment when it snaps as in breaks due to the bell shutting on the reel to soon.

Thanks, Skools...I know what he's talkin' about...I've had the bail close on me too ::) ... I's talkin' about the extra distance the terminal tackle travels AFTER the ''snap'' when there's no line goin' out ;) ...
