Florence

This isn't looking too spodie-odie for the Carolinas. Spent all day trying to find a place for the Pipe Dream or a trailer to borrow. Nothing so far . . .

Looks like we’ll be pretty safe here in the Chesapeake. Probably get some wind and waves but y’all definitely need to hunker down in the Carolinas. Hopefully you’ll get the PD to safety. You definitely don’t need all that trouble again.

spareparts 09-08-2018 11:11 PM

the more recent forecast have it North of here, but its going to nail my fathers place in Sneads Ferry, looks like I'm driving up tomorrow

cfelton 09-09-2018 01:44 AM

Yep, Florence looks pretty nasty. We're keeping a close eye on it. I got 4 generators and bought 130.00 worth of 93 non-ethanol for them. We rode out Isabel at 96 mph winds, that was scary! Our house is 101 years old, seen some bad ones come by. If its stronger than Isabel I'm going inland! Hope you all fair ok!

Prayers going up for all East Coast guys. NJ isn't 100% out of the woods either. Pipe, doesn't U-Haul have a trailer to rent? :head:

Nothing but utility trailers and car dollies at our U-Hauls. Looking like I might not need it this week.

It'd be nice if the track would keep shifting north and northeast and out to sea instead of making landfall at all.

spareparts 09-09-2018 06:25 AM

Pipe, I think you'll be ok from what the track looks like, but if you need a trailer, Ive got a spare that your v will fit on

Spare to the rescue!!...

reelapeelin 09-09-2018 08:42 AM

We are/were scheduled to start a week long family vacation, complete w/V20, this coming Saturday at Sunset Beach NC...the spaghetti tracks indicate that could be a problem...looks like it's gonna landfall about 60 miles up the coast the night before...that ain't far enough...:head:

bradford 09-09-2018 03:14 PM

Pipe, I have a spare single axle aluminum if you need it, you could even keep her down here if you want to, let me know.

Destroyer 09-09-2018 04:30 PM

I'm happy to hear you guys offering trailers. I don't have a spare anymore, but was going to offer to put one of my boats on blocks and bring it's trailer down. You guys saved me a lot of driving.:beer::clap:

I was gonna say the same thing. I could block my v21 and meet someone half way if need be. Sounds like y’all have it figured out but if anyone needs a haul just let me know.

wellcraftv20step 09-09-2018 07:14 PM

Way to go guys !!

phatdaddy 09-09-2018 08:01 PM

Go to Tropical Tidbits for all u want to know about hurricanes. I ve been watching his blogs for a couple of years now.

Good luck and hunker down

Pipe_Dream 09-10-2018 06:48 AM

You guys are great! I'm buying a trailer (from one of our own here!) but just wasn't sure about the timing, and when I wrote the original post I was freaking out a bit. The storm track for Florence isn't looking bad for us now so I'm feeling a lot better about the old PD, but I'm worried about y'all to the north of here . . .

Yeah, Tropical Tidbits and Mike's Weather Page are my go-to for storm info. In fact Mike's links to some of Tropical Tidbits.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graph...e_and_wind.png

Looking back now I see that the link that I am using for these storm projection maps is updating each one of them. The one in my original post is this morning's, not what it was when I posted, so I don't need to keep posting these maps.

bgreene 09-10-2018 10:58 AM

intensification, and increased forward speed spells trouble especially north of eye wall landfall where that storm surge will be worst.

Good thing is with so much weather info., at least the tracking and up to date data is constantly available.

Then.....as it slows after landfall the heavy rain becomes the 2nd danger.

Good luck to all.

Pipe_Dream 09-10-2018 09:16 PM

Major shoutout and kudos to Bradford! Thanks to him the PD is now 15 miles inland and sitting on his trailer. He's the man!

Thank you to everyone else who offered. I had mixed feelings about leaving it in the water, especially when the state called for a "mandatory" evacuation beginning tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that me taking her out of the water caused the forecast track to move northward away from here as soon as I made the call.

Best wishes for everyone in the path of this storm. May we all come out of it safe and sound.

I went up to Sneads Ferry yesterday, battened every thing down, cut the power off. Left a 6 pack of miller light in the fridge and mowed the grass in defiance

Bravo!

bradford 09-11-2018 08:07 PM

Cfelton, Randleman, Garage NC, and all others in the path be safe and keep your wits about you.

We're praying for y'all.

cfelton 09-12-2018 06:57 PM

Oh yeah! We're all ready here in Gates County. It looks like its turning south from us here. Yall farther down from me please be careful! Its a bad one! Good job with the Pipe Dream, Yall take care of them V's!!! Ive been off for a few days, been hot and nice here. My buddy lives in Kitty Hawk on the outer banks, they're evacuating today, he's staying.

randlemanboater 09-12-2018 09:39 PM

I really appreciate Bradford for loaning PD the trailer (and all the other guys who offered up). I actually did put the old V on blocks last Sunday so I could get the trailer to PD, but between obligations and Flo trying to fake us out by looking like she was going north, we decided to wait until after the storm.

Now the "experts" have decided that Flo will go south (although she seems to be trucking NW at 16 mph pretty steady) I was feeling uneasy thinking of the Pipe Dream falling victim.

Anyway, it has all worked out...thanks guys.

I thank you ALL! And I hope and pray that everyone in harm's way will get through this without loss of life or property.

Blue_Runner 09-13-2018 11:47 AM

I pray everyone stays safe. My bro in law is riding it out in Hampstead north of Wilmington, NC with some neighbors. Really hoping he comes out unscathed.

bradford 09-14-2018 09:16 PM

Thought about you today BR, you good?

inaforty 09-15-2018 04:02 AM

Thinking of all you guys down in the Carolina's.
Hopefully everyone is ok.

Pipe_Dream 09-15-2018 02:52 PM

Feel bad for anyone north of Charleston in SC and anyone in NC.

Down here all is okay. Little rain yet and winds 15-20, although it could still pick up later today (there was just now a big gust), but nothing like north of here.

spareparts 09-15-2018 05:42 PM

same here, just some rain and wind, not too bad. I've got a guy going by the place in Sneads Ferry tomorrow, I don't have a good feeling

Blue_Runner 09-17-2018 02:13 PM

Everything is good here. No issues, just some debris and little rotten tree fell into the driveway. Really happy it wasn't as bad as it could have been. My brother in law near Wilmington has a bunch of trees down but no flooding and his house is in good shape thanks to his pre-hurricane preparation. Can't wait to hear the stories he has to tell.

I believe yesterday his generator went out. He wasn't happy at all about that since the roads were blocked by fallen trees making it impossible to get out of his neighborhood.

...As I read back through this, it's easy to see why this forum has been so successful...the guys here are all brothers and look after each other...all the trailer offers for PD are awesome!

Spare what I heard about Sneads Ferry doesn't sound god..hope it wasn't too bad up there and that all on this board, affected by Florence came through it alright...

Oz, had a freind to go by yesterday, water came within 6 inches of the floor of the house, we were spared and very blessed. Several people down the street weren't so lucky. All we have is a yard full of leaves and one tree down over our storage shed that was on its last leg anyways. Power came back on today at the house. I plan to go down next weekend and straighten everything out. the whole Sneads Ferry area was hit pretty hard, especially water front. We were very fortunate to not have any damage

bradford 09-20-2018 01:26 AM

Good news Spare.

We dodged a bullet, feel bad for all those folks whose lives are upside down right now.

Glad to hear that, spare!

Exactly. This was brutal for a lot of folks.

Blue_Runner 09-20-2018 03:25 PM

Wow, a close call there Spare. Doesn't get much closer than that.
