Phatdaddy i see you epoxied that plastic but did you also screw it in to? I asked because mine is under the drain hole tube and the water that drained landed on the transducer and kind of screwed it up

steplift20 03-15-2018 05:09 PM

What epoxy did you use?

SkunkBoat 03-15-2018 05:25 PM

lookup "stern pad" on amazon or ebay

phatdaddy 03-15-2018 07:22 PM

Not screwed into transom. Piece of 1/2 starboard is held on by epoxy (gflex by West) only. The transducer is screwed into the starboard , but not into the transom.

It is a homemade stern pad like skunk mentioned.

Ok thanks stern pad got it thanks again, I really don't like drilling holes below the water line

You can get a gflex kit for about the same as the stern pad kit. I had the starboard left over other projects.

That's where mine is located too..

Do you think yours is stronger, better than the stern pad ? The reason is I would really like something permanent and what would you use to fill the screw holes I have now below the water line

phatdaddy 03-16-2018 09:31 AM

I guess i think its stronger, i know i used more epoxy than they give u in kit. When using starboard, u have to flame it. Basically wave it over a propane torch for a few seconds, this oxidizes the plastic and gives it better adhesion.

U could also use the gflex to fill the older screw holes, but plain epoxy would be better.
If you notice the two old screw holes to the left side of the transducer, i filled those.

I drilled out the older holes with a 1/2 drill and went about 1/2 deeper. Wet out the holes with epoxy, then filled with a thicken mixture of epoxy and cabosil. Let it stand out proud for a day or two, then sand smooth.

I just bought a SternPad for my grady. Haven't put it on yet. This one is the Jumbo size for big sidescan transducers. Its an inch thick. Not Starboard(hdpe), its lighter weight.
I like the thickness. Can use deep screws.
The adhesive is 3M VHB tape. Its the stuff they use to attach windows in glass high-rise buildings.
Looks like a good product but of course, only time will tell.

If they use 3 m VHB
tape for high rise buildings than I think it would hold up
