Bad news

June 2nd we are no longer going to have free hosting and I cannot afford to pay for the site. And all the stuff that goes along with everything so as of June 2nd the site will no longer cease to exist. Sorry guys it's been a great 10+ yrars with some great people!! I don't want to do it! So go ahead and exchange your emails with each other your phone numbers with each other and drilling else but we have till June 2nd love you all and will really miss the board

jjuriga 05-18-2017 06:29 AM

So how much would the hosting be per month? I'm curious...

Blue_Runner 05-18-2017 07:50 AM

MJ rather than just let the lights go out have you thought about passing the reigns over to a willing board member? I bet there are a couple or three people who would step up and take it over - possibly myself.

step up here 05-18-2017 08:25 AM

Thank you for all the great years, if possible to continue the site for a fee am in. I look at this site everyday so I hate to see it sink. Thanks again Tommy

Greyduk 05-18-2017 08:29 AM

I would be interested on a fee basis.

scook 05-18-2017 09:09 AM

Same here on paying something to keep this going. I can't host it - it would be a disaster if I tried but will sure support you or one of the other guys as much as I can to keep it going. I too, visit almost every day and would really miss it if it were gone.

I also am very grateful for your years faithful service and I think all of our community would completely support you if you wanted to hand off all or part of your duties.

Please let us know what we can do.

jjuriga 05-18-2017 09:19 AM

Just keep this in mind... I own and operate a website & app development firm down here in South Florida. We host a lot of websites on our dedicated servers... I don't think this one wouldn't be a problem. Let me know what the file size is on the root folder and what kind of bandwidth we'd be looking at.

Destroyer 05-18-2017 12:27 PM

Well, I, for one, am not willing to let this site go down without a fight. So what are we talking about as far as $$ goes MJ? Who is running the site now, how much do they want in the future, etc. Need some information about the workings of the site to make informed decisions. But like a few others have said already, I would bet there are several people here, including myself, that might be able to step up to the plate and take over the admin duties, etc. Actually, because of your health, I've been expecting something like this for a while now. Maybe it's time to pass the reins MJ.

Slightly_Twisted 05-18-2017 01:19 PM

I'm with the others. I'm not willing to sit and watch this place go if I can do something about it. I have no idea how to host but can help out fund wise.

MJ let us know how to help!!

what he said!!!!!!!

btw MJ, hope you are feeling better

spareparts 05-18-2017 06:53 PM

and by the way MJ, we really appreciate ll you've done to keep this site up and running

3 Squids 05-18-2017 07:51 PM

Well this is a bummer. You've done us all so much by keeping this page up and running MJ. I certainly would help out financially. Even though I currently own no V-20's (amazing I know) you guys have been great to talk boats with. I'm on a few different boat forums and you guys are by far the coolest. I'd hate to see this go away, let's keep this from happening!!

BillTex 05-18-2017 08:32 PM

Mj...God bless you...I understand you have some health challenges and I am sure taking care of this motley crew is not easy.
I am willing to contribute also. It's a great site...let's see what we can do.

Bill

charlie_the_tuna 05-18-2017 08:40 PM

well, here's my facebook. i'm not politically correct and I curse like a sailor. come on, look me up.

https://www.facebook.com/

I think I did that right.

macojoe 05-19-2017 04:14 AM

Okay by popular demand I'm going to be in talks with a couple of people see what we can do about keeping the side up I wouldn't like to see you. Physically mentally financially I can't do it any longer but I will turn the reins over to someone and I already reached and we can see what happens what has to be very very quicklyc

tsubaki 05-19-2017 05:21 AM

Thank you MJ, you are very much appreciated!

phatdaddy 05-19-2017 05:57 AM

Thanks for a job well done, mj. I have no idea what's involved or cost in keeping this site alive, but i would hate to see it go away.

Let us know what we can do

BuilderFL 05-19-2017 06:46 AM

MJ, you've done an outstanding job on this website with your commitment, rules and diligence to persevere during some very strenuous past years. You've brought a lot of good folks together to build a great camaraderie amongst us as well as a creating a learning platform for all. Never met any of the guys, but consider them all my friends. Pass the torch to a willing member, but please stay with us. . If it takes a fee to keep it going, count me in. Thank you my friend and the best to you and all V20 family.

SkunkBoat 05-19-2017 08:23 AM

Thanks for all your work on the site MJ!
I hope it can keep going. I get so much info and so many ideas from here. And the stories from good people. I will certainly kick in some clams to keep it going.

I am putting up a Facebook page "Wellcraft V20 Steplift" so we have a means of communication if we go dark. I started it but I have to go to work. Might be up on FB tonight.

macojoe 05-19-2017 04:50 PM

Okay I am in talks with Blue Runner and looks like he is going to take over I put him in touch with to get all the password passwords for the database so hurt and goes right he will get a new man we'll keep you guys posted

Blue_Runner 05-19-2017 05:20 PM

2nd what everybody else said - thanks a ton MJ for keeping this up for this long with all you've had to deal with. I sure would not even own a V21 if not for this site, and if I did it probably would not RUN. lol

So I will plan to keep it going as soon as I get in touch with MJ's guy. Left him a VM today. Will need to get hosted on a new server so should be fairly easy to pick up and move, then we will be all set.

Blue

Striper80 05-19-2017 05:29 PM

I joined this site while I was searching for a V20. I wound up getting something else but I stuck around because I like the vibe here and I really like the boats. Really stinks that you're having such a hard time these days, but hopefully there's brighter days in the future. Glad to see that it will be able to continue and will gladly pony up some dough.

scook 05-19-2017 05:38 PM

Hey Blue - did you catch jjuriga on the first page - offering to host on his server?

Blue_Runner 05-19-2017 05:42 PM

scook, yeah once I get the details on where everything is and whatnot I'll be on it. Thanks for reminding me. Hopefully early next week.

THEFERMANATOR 05-19-2017 06:44 PM

Wished I could offer to help, but my health isn't much better than MJ here lately. Heres hoping the lights can stay on, and if they do, I'll try to continue to help out in the future.

I think I did that right.

nah, you did it wrong

bradford 05-19-2017 11:15 PM

This place has to stick around. I was on another board that the owners shut down and years of info and 10s of thousands of posts went away instantly. Really sucked!

I'm about one of the least technical folks here, but would be willing to throw a few bucks to keep the lights on. I'm not on facebook or anything else like that. I appreciate MJ for the years of keeping things going through thick and thin and I'm glad an old regular like Blue Runner can take the reins. I miss some of the old members, but we have a lot of good newer posters lately too. Really a good group without all the bs most boards end up having.

jvitiel 05-20-2017 12:45 PM

Sign me up for donations. I can't tell you how much money this site has saved me over the past few years.

I feel like my boat is a mirror image of all the good ideas everyone has suggested all lumped together. Thanks MJ and thanks to everyone!

wellcraftv20step 05-21-2017 06:16 AM

, I would love to see this site go on forever but obviously their is a possibility that it won't. In the event that happens I'd like to say MJ thanks for doing a wonderful job especially with all you've been through. I'm not a Facebook guy so let me say this,it's been a pleasure guys truly and I appreciate all the help.i'm by no means a mechanic but the tithings that I have learned here are immeasurable. I take on things now that I would have never attempted before . It's been for a very long time the only site I go on,just don't have a lot of time to waste these days with other sites and guys that just like to hear the sound of their own voice ( figuratively speaking). This band of guys just truly like helping one and other with no purpose other than to do just that ,help. I've come to know people's lives,I'm sitting here thinking I even know what some of the members like to eat drink and vacation! I've prayed for their children, Their parents, their spouses , so yes I feel I'd be loosing quite a bit here if this sight were to end.. and selfishly I know when I have a problem I'll get an Experienced intelligent answer from Spare Destroyer Ferm Ridge Reel Smoke Pete Skunk Willy skools and so many others that I've left out .. case in point,,, Skunk saved me a pile of time and aggravation just this morning!!! And on the other side I'll see something posted by Charlie and know most likely I'm going to get a good laugh today! My wife often comes into the room and sees me on the laptop
typing and says teasingly "I guess your talking to your friends I say yep and laugh! Hope it goes on forever !!!!!

steplift20 05-21-2017 07:14 AM

I'm very sad

Hey MJ I don't belong to any sites only this one, I didn't meet any of you guys but I feel like you are all my close friends I really hope that your health gets better and some how this site goes on Get better MJ And to all my friends on this site you really helped me a lot thru all these years Let's hope it keeps going somehow Joe

Blue_Runner 05-22-2017 12:24 PM

JJURIGA,
PM'd you about hosting, this is from yodaddy (current host and member):

"I just checked and it's 2.3GB. The sql dump of the site is 535MB. I don't log traffic on this server, so can't tell you exactly how much bandwidth it uses, but it's not much."

Troutkiller2006 05-22-2017 06:52 PM

i need a drink

scook 05-23-2017 12:30 AM

Yeah Troutkiller - I'm with you. I'm just real grateful there are some boat guys here who are tech guys too -I'm sure not :arrr:

Reminds me of Ferm and Spare telling someone how to bypass the turbo encabulator on their 1985 PXQ5001-e.

SQL = (Structured Query Language) is a domain-specific language used in programming and designed for managing data held in a relational database management system (RDBMS), or for stream processing in a relational data stream management system (RDSMS). In this case the site is using 2.3 Giga Bytes of space, and it's taking 535 megabytes to manage it. He's also reporting that the bandwidth is not a lot. (Which is good since the more bandwidth you use the more costly it is)

And the turbo encabulator on the 1985 PXQ5001-e model was only used one year and was replaced by the far more efficient flux capacitor on the 1986 PXQ5001-f model the following year, completely eliminating the need for a turbo encabulator.

Glad some of yall can figure this stuff out.

randlemanboater 05-24-2017 08:31 AM

Thank you to MJ for all he has done and thanks to BR for taking the helm!

I too am very glad to contribute to offset the costs.

First I'd Like to say a huge THANK YOU to MJ for starting such a great site and for all youve done to keep it going. I wear all my hats , shirts and sweatshirts with pride and get compliments on them all the time. This site and the great guys have always been a big help no matter what I have going on, boat or personal! And a big thank you to Bluerunner for taking it and keeping it alive. I don't get chance to speak up much but I check in regularly. I love looking at the pictures and stories of repairs and restoration of these fine watercraft. I found this site before I bought my V and have enjoied every minute Ive spent here! If funds are needed to keep it going, I'm all about it! Just let me know how I can help!
