Feeling my northern brothers pain
Went out to get paper this morning, slipped on ice in driveway. Sprinklers ran last night and we got down to 28* for about 6 hours.
I don't know how u guys do it. Should i invest in snow tires or go straight to chains? |

I'm just gonna tough it out for a few days, should be able to put my shorts back on Tuesday when we go back into the 70's.
|
Ferm, your further south than i am, so we don't get a break until Tuesday afternoon.
D, thanks for the tips from someone who lives it, but I decided to get caught up on my netflix and cook some Zoupa Tuscano. If i find myself in another situation where water freezes in nature, i will be seeking additional answers Thanks |

and of course the split green peas.... Winter type soup at it's best. YUM!!!! (I'd think twice about those studded tires... You'll need all the traction you can get on the frozen water). |

Speaking of feeling the pain, we got about 8 inches of snow last Saturday and its still here!!!
Southern custom is for the snow to be gone in a day and a half, this is really cramping my fishing schedule. |
feel our pain?? this aint pain. when the temp drops below 15 degrees for a couple weeks and we get 2 or 3 feet of snow...... that's our pain. hell, this aint nothin'. this just a cold snap and a few inches of powder.

Winter time soups are the best ,my wife makes a Pasta Fagioli to die for but I'll be having it in warmer climate,,,I used to love this time of year here in Ny, I hate it now ,every inch of my body hurts and I count the months 69 to be exact till I can get the heck out of here!!!! Carolina bound for sure, I do however love the positive attitude Paul and Charlie..

Just looked up recipe for pasta fagioli. Definately gonna have to give that a try next time it dips below 50*.

It was pretty rough yesterday, wearing shorts, a t-shirt, no shoes, sweating, on the bow of my boat, all while fishing. Could have used a cool breeze in the morning, but the afternoon took care of that. Must have gotten close to 80 before the breeze started, but then the bugs showed up in the afternoon, it just made it uncomfortable with shorts on, so I packed it in around 5 after I caught 4 trout(not a great day, but I'll take it).

you know we are going to pay for this when everyone in those cold parts, moves South

Spare, you have a better chance of seeing me than Ferm does. Fla is just to friggin hot and humid for these old northern bones. Northern SC or southern NC is the maximum amount of southern movement we are looking at. Northern NC might be more suited to us. Still a little hot, but at least you don't have the crippling humidity that Georgia and Florida do. :head:

We hit a record low down here in the keys for this time of year it was 62 last week. I had to wear some layers to stay warm. This is ridiculous!!

As for the tourist problem, I do feel for you. I used to live in Tom's River NJ and the major highways for travel to Seaside Beach and other resort towns goes right thru it. In the winter I could go to work in Lakewood in 20 minutes. In the summer coming home usually took me an hour, and that's using the back roads most locals know. It was so bad my wife bought a t-shirt that read "I live here, I'm not a tourist and I don't give directions". I'm sure that Capt. Pete can attest to how crazy the traffic gets during the summer. So I do feel bad for you guys. (And I'll try my best to stay away so I don't add to the problem). :hide: |
My wife's family is all in the Tom's River area. They were all posting about rhe miserable heat this ladt summer. One of her cousins posted a pic of his truck showing 102, that's way to hot for me. Disney is actually in a hot spot of Florida as I don't care for that area much myself either. It's much more bearable where I am, hence why we have so many snow birds down for winter every year.

Don't worry Spares, I'm headed to North Carolina I don't want to be blamed for your commute haha, most likely mooresville, and as a child I spent every summer in Toms River as my mom was born and raised their.! It's a very very nice place but yes it's very hot their and just as cold as ny in winter..

Well we're headed to FL (we will do our best to be respectful greenhorns). My Dad was stationed in Key West in 1950. I wish he could have stayed there. Karen and I have family is all over the US. First cousin in Fort Lauderdale and Bradenton. Karen has family up and down the west coast OR,WA,CA,AZ.
We love the heat. While we were in Port Charlotte last spring it was above 90. The pool was 85 degrees. NICE!! We been dreaming of moving for a number of years. We explore a different area of FL west coast every time we visit. |
