OMC Seadrive

Can someone explain this to me?
Or point me to a good thread?

Can the engine be swapped out for any outboard?

Thx, bill

what horse power do you have? I changed out a 20 proline once, the way the liner was made, I removed a filler panel, cut the transom down and made it an outboard. On a V20, it would probably be better to replace with a bracket and outboard. There are several conversion on this site, use the search feature and they should pop up

I guess the million $ question is; would you buy one?
Sounds like parts are scarce...

I wouldn't buy one unless I had a plan ready for repower, especially the bigger ones with the integrated hydraulic steering, theres nothing available for the steering. Very little available for the trim system as well.

Obsolete, only parts available are what you can scrounge up in the used market. If it runs plan on replacing it when it quits. Hulls with a seadrive have a full transom which is desirable to some for a bracket conversion. Friend of mine who goes by "Temoc" on here has one for parts if you're ever in Savannah.

Thanks all

My "dream V". Would be to find a sea-drive cuddy, put a bracket and repower. Remove the windshield and put a center console in it. To me that would be the best of both worlds. Shelter and storage of a cuddy, but fish ability of a center console. Or it might turn out to be the worst of both worlds, like an el camino pick up truck.

Phat, wouldn't it be easier to just get a V20 Fisherman center console and put a dodger up front? Gives you all the advantages you're talking about (Shelter and storage) at a fraction of the cost and work involved. Plus, you can make the dodger removable so that if you want that additional space up front for fishing or guests it's easily available. :head:

Valid point D. I had a 19 mako and 21 hydrasport center console with dodgers and loved it. Then my daughter was born (27 years ago). Needed more and drier storage for all the things that go with babies on a boat. Thats when we got the V. Cabin was great for dry storage and later a "clubhouse" for my daughter and her brother 5 years later. My plan was to get into another center console after they got older, but life and finances dictated i hang onto the V. Then about 10 years ago i discovered the wonderful nap taking feature in the cabin my kids enjoyed so long ago.

Dusky actually made a model that is exactly what i described.

There's a lot to be said for nap and sleeping features of the cuddy. Especially when you go out late at night to get an early start for the morning bite.

Or not to mention, tampering with the wifey during a thunderstorm.

Actually a good friend of mine's.

His old lady was pissed off at him awhile back. Said "You never take me anywhere, last month you said you were gonna take me to Florida!"

He replied, "I never said that, what i said was that I was gonna tampa with ya!"

Interesting how a thread about obsolete OMCs can morph into misunderstandings of lexicon concerning the love life of a South Georgia cracker.
