New Jersey V guys...............HOOOOOZZZZZ fishing ?

Not in NJ, but might be fishing the Ambrose this weekend or checking in the back for some Gold.

I'm gonna try and go, but doubt I'll be able to fish much. Got severe carpal tunnel in my right hand, and having complications in my left hand from surgery on it last June.

Good weather(no rain on the water, but poured just on the beach going inland, but MISERABLE HOT), calm water, good water clarity, 10,000 yahoos in every direction I looked, and caught nothing but ladyfish all day. Oh well, got a few hours of freedom away from the kids, went out on the boat, and didn't even burn 6 gallons of gas running around/trolling for the better part of a day(this 4 stroke YAMAHA might grow on me yet).

I plan to hit the Barnegat inlet tomorrow, anyone else?

Tomorrow looks like a challenge for a v-20 heading out into the ocean. I think their maybe a little more rocking then I would want.

Not sure yet but who is going to be in raritan bay? I do see a v there the same one when I go out on Sundays

I see a lot of V-20 at Atlantic Highlands Municipal ramp. May I ask where do you keep your rig since you fish the Raritan?
I have one in land storage 53 at the municipal dock. I try not to fish Sundays because it makes my trip longer then the normal time of one and a half hours.Since am retired now I try and fish a couple days a week,but it's a struggle. Fishing the Raritan and ocean side has been very good,and I expect to see a good blackfish and striper season.

Yesterday, Saturday......was a little choppy in the am as expected with NE wind, and seas 2-3.
Running about 3,200 rpm is just about right, enough speed to get the tabs to press the bow down, easily on plane, but not pounding.

Fished north of Belmar, wind dropped out around 11am, calm seas, light drift.

Alone I picked 5 with 2 keepers at 20" and 22" along with 3 nice keeper sized seabass.

Not all the fish are in deep water.......

Yea I was out yesterday and today. Both good days but makes me start thinking I need 200 hp.

What makes you think you'll catch more fish with 200 hp ? :)

Probably by being able to get out there and back quicker.

I used to use the Highlands ramp. Nice wide, shallow entry. Great ramp. I also used to use the Leonardo State marina ramp. Only 2 truck wide, short steep entry and easy to put the wheels off the end.

Now I use the free ramp in Laurel Hill park in Secaucus, NJ.

Launch into the Hackensack, 21 mile boat ride downriver to the Hudson River, under the Varrazzano-narrows bridge and out into Sandy hook bay. I get there in less time than trailering to either Highlands or Leonardo, and although I use more gas, I don't pay GSP tolls or launch fees. I figure it's a wash. But it's way less time, with no weekend traffic to buck on the way there or back. Once I'm launched it's a nice half hour boat ride, compared with an hour and a half drive on a Sunday afternoon going back home.

Oh, and did I mention that the trip upriver on the way home is a great freshwater washout for my engine? Maybe not as pure as tap water, but way better than the saltwater that I left behind. I still put it on the muffs when I get home, but there's never a time when the engine dries out with salt inside her. :)

My first trip with my V 18 was from there. It's not a bad trip down the river to the bay at all. You just have to make sure you have your NY saltwater registry card as well as your NJ card. There's a decent fall Striper bite not too far from the launch ramp as well.

If the weatherman is correct you will need more than a V-20 this weekend!:sad:

Yep. If I go out I plan on staying in the river. Plenty of fish in it if you know where to look. I wouldn't keep/eat anything that comes out of it, but it's great fishing for Stripers.

I don't have a NY Saltwater card. Since I launch and land in NJ I'm only subject to New Jersey laws (as far as I know). I've always been taught that the two states have reciprocity arraignments Now I'm going to have to do some investigating on NY laws also. <groan> Thanks for the heads up.

Pretty sure if you're fishing in another states state waters, you have to have a license to fish there. Federal waters honor reciprocity agreements, but state waters normally do not.

You are correct, for freshwater lakes and the ilk. But in cases like this one, where the border between NY and NJ is a tidal river (Hudson), I think it's always been held that it's where you launch from that dictates whose license you need. And in all cases, don't forget that we're talking about the Federally mandated Saltwater license, not a state license. So I think that as long as you have one it covers all areas. For instance, how do you know (if you're in the Gulf of Mexico for instance), whose state waters you're actually fishing in? That can change in an instant as you drift from one State boundary to another's. It would be ludicrous to have to require a sport recreational fisherman to acquire Saltwater licenses from each of the states that border the Gulf. Not talking commercial fishermen here. They live under a different set of rules.

Okay, from the NY State site, the following is their law:

"License requirements:

Depending on the specific location of the Hudson River fishing activities, and/or the specific species fished for, an angler may need to have a recreational marine fishing registry (Salt water) license, a fishing license or both :

If you are fishing downstream from the Tappan Zee Bridge, you are considered fishing in the marine and coastal district and will need to enroll in the recreational marine fishing registry."

Since I am already enrolled in the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry through my New Jersey Salt Water registration I have met all the requirements and do not need to obtain a separate NY license. The Verrazzano Bridge and Sandy Hook are well below the Tappan Zee Bridge and are considered a marine and coastal area.

in the gulf, doesn't matter where you launch from or live, its the water in which you are fishing. state waters extend out 9 miles from shore. if they check , you need a state issued license from whose water your in. with modern gps technology, they can tell you where u are.

there is no federal recreational sw license. some migratory fish require federal permits, but not ones fished for usually.
