Yeti cup vs ozark cup

i have a yeti 30 oz cup kids gave me for christmas. i love it, keeps ice all day long. wanted another, but didn't like the $40. heard wally world was selling a 10 dollar knock off, finally found one in stock, so i tried it.

i filled both cups with ice and set them on the back porch. left them out overnight for 15 hours. got up next morning and drained water for comparison. not 100% scientific, but close enough for drink cups.

as you can see, pretty close to same melt rate.

just thought i'd share this

the yeti is silver & ozark is black

I absolutely love my Yeti tumbler. I got it as a groomsman gift from my best bud. He had them each engraved with each guys boat name! Cool idea!

I love my yeti cooler... pricey but well worth it !

SkunkBoat 05-18-2016 07:31 PM

I saw a tiny Yeti cooler at West Marine with a $249 price tag. It might have fit a 12 pack surrounded with ice.

For $249 I can buy 100 twenty pound bags of ice at BJ's...a ton of ice...

I just can't bust that nut.

3 Squids 05-18-2016 07:41 PM

Wow. Looks as if the Yeti melted a little bit more. The price people pay for a trendy name.

Skunk, I couldn't agree more. For me, the ice has to last one day... maybe two if I'm doing an overnight. My big Igloo does that with no problems, and it cost WAYYYYYYY less than a Yeti.

Good experiment Phatdaddy. Got a friend with a yeti cup and another with a knock off, both like them.

I own 4 marine igloos plus a few smaller coolers. The last two I bought one was a 168 quart for 40 bucks, one was a 72 quart for 5 bucks at a garage sale. Got a 94 quart for free out of a derelict I drug out of the weeds.

a good freind of mine bought a Yeti, an Engels(sp?), and Icy Tech and a Rtec. put one bag of ice in each one, set them just inside his garage door. While he was home, he left teh garage door open. The Engelss held ice longer than teh rest, he returned the others back to the stores he bought them from. I needed a seat for my McKee, I checked on a rotomolded seeat for the console, my cost was oevr $300, I have used igloo cooler seats before and usually get 3 years outof them before they start falling apart. They are still not cheap and add in the cost of a cushion. I bought a Yeti 45 and had my canvas guy make me a real nice cushion(high density foam).I could get a deal on Yeti's, but noat any other brand. That cooler goes where ever I go, it lives in my work van and doubles as the seat in my Mckee. I bought a 65 qt Yeti for the V20, got a cushion just liek the 45. I fugutrr, I shouldnt ever have to buy another cooler

I found my 100qt Igloo Marine cooler on the side of the road. I went to work and seen it and thought, dang that sucks for somebody. Then 8 hours later on my way home it was still there so I thought what the heck, let me see how bad it's messed up. Only thing wrong were the hinges were broke. Top was still tethered on with the strap that keeps it from opening too far. Actually bought a set of improved hinges for $5. That was 7-8 years ago and we still use it regularly.

The coolers are a whole other debate. I personally feel like destroyer , I don't need to keep ice for 5-7 days. I have a 1985 105 qt gott that is fantastic. It was the "yeti" in its day.

But the cups, I really use everyday, so I thought I'd give a real world test.

Buy yeti if you want to, I'm going to buy Ozark and $30 more tackle

randlemanboater 05-19-2016 08:17 AM

I have 30 oz, 20 oz, and coozie from Walmart, they seem like they are made in the same factory as the Yetis when compared side by side.

Even the lids are interchangeable with the Yetis.

Use the Walmart app to check which store near you has them (search Ozart Trail Tumbler), they go fast!

randlemanboater 05-19-2016 08:21 AM

Walmart also has a Yeti Cooler knock off, also under the Ozark Trail brand, the 75 quart is $194. Don't know how they perform but I bet they are comparable.

Same subject, different issue: My wife, kids, friends think I'm nuts BUT, I have this thing about white coolers on a boat. It HAS TO BE WHITE. If someone shows up with a colored cooler and a day on my boat, I empty it into one of my white coolers. I know, WTH?

All my coolers are white Igloo. They keep ice perfectly for just as long as I need them to. I don't go for days at a time excursions

X2 Marine coolers HAVE to be white!! It's the law. The US Coast Guard can fine you and confiscate any cooler not white. The ONLY exception is Stainless Steel Corona Beer Coolers... (they wink and turn their backs on them).
I have two Igloo and one Thermos coolers for the boat. All white and all keep my ice nice and hard all day long..

DiverDux 05-19-2016 10:38 AM

Consider this too...

When using the cooler as a fish cooler, the benefit of a Yeti (keeps ice longer) is a moot point. As fish are added to the cooler, the body temperature of the fish melts the ice. We use the standard everyday white marine coolers and they perform just fine.

Another point to consider is the weight of the Yeti coolers. They weigh a ton when empty. Add ice and fish and you can hardly move them.

But, I do love my Yeti Tumblers!!

Used to do that, now I just cut a 3 inch piece off an old leather belt and run the old stainless screws from the hinge through it. Never had to replace one ever again.

Not a cup but interesting, great if true https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yaTmfV_c8A

Bradford I like piano hinge. Once and done. That is until somebody steals it...
I went and bought the entry level Yeti cooler. The one with the handle.
Man is it heavy. I am pretty much skeered to take it anywhere it might disappear. It stays in the backseat of the pickup truck. It is like watchin after a youngin. No thanks... $49 Igloo on wheels for soccer was the ticket. Easier to move about and we only need ice to last a day. Fishin the keys or the river or even trailering from central Fl where I stay,,I am spoiled with ice machines. Nice 250 to 500 lb/day kinda ice machines.. LOL! It cost nothing. We dump ice out just to watch it melt. No seriously, it is so nice because it didn't used to be that way at all. Block Ice for offshore is the ticket. Fishing out of the keys the dialy ice bill without the maker was real PRICEY depending on the fishing your doing. Bottom line is your icing coolers every day due to melt. The Yeti cooler I got would be a good size for speckled perch or bream BTW. Youd have to cut a keeper cobia into three pieces to get him in the cooler. LOL no ice, WTF was I thinking...

phatdaddy 05-21-2016 09:50 AM

Joe, I've heard good things about the Rtic , only problem is finding them. Most are Order online and get it shipped to you. Used to be a guy in a van that would travel around and sell them out of the back , like a food truck. Word would get out where he was going to be.

Ridge, spot on bout the small yeti. My daughter got one of the 25 qt to take to the beach. Had no idea how heavy it would be loaded. Now it stays in the garage, except for tubing trips. Down the rivers. It fits perfect in a tube.
