The need for speed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyUC6Tdt0aE I HAVE SEEN THIS BOAT AT A FRIENDS SHOP IN DENVER NC. IT IS SOMETHING TO BEHOLD!!!! 147 MPH AND MORE!! ITS ONLY 1 MILLION + DOLLAR BOAT. THE NEAD FOR SPEED? COME GET YOU SOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

randlemanboater 01-31-2016 09:57 AM

I wonder if I put one of those props on the V20 if I can hit 41 mph.....

the daydreamer 01-31-2016 11:35 AM

sure you can I will see if I can get you one!!

inaforty 01-31-2016 11:50 AM

Oh my!
That is freakn' flying!!

I got to go for a ride in a 38' Cigarette with twin 454 with shorty B&M blowers with alpha 1 (i think).
We hit 70 mph. I couldn't get the grin off my face.

BTW ...that guys watch is probably worth more then my house.

SkunkBoat 01-31-2016 12:07 PM

Ya think he would worry about first light!

Lake Tarpon Boyz are fast as hell... Statement on their stomping grounds don't supprise me much. There are literally ten 100+ mph boats on that lake that I know of.. Maybe none as classy as that Statement. Does it bother anyone that there was little to NO safety gear being worn at 138. Mechanical issues do crop up, just saying.....

Boats like these on Lake Tarpon normally....:haha::oh:

Speed is all fun until the abrupt stop..

RidgeRunner 02-01-2016 08:41 AM

Those six blade Herring Props cost more than my house and all my net worth,,,

SkunkBoat 02-01-2016 09:41 AM

I'm glad they are there and not here.
That guy needed some gold chains....

Thought the same thing Ridge. In the old days the mono-hull record was held by a scarab, 135 mph or something and that was guys in full race gear. A while back the founder of bonefish grill died on Tampa bay I believe going 100+ in a go fast. Nobody knows what happened, but as anyone who has run boats for any length of time knows something like a small wake, crab float, piece of lumber floating half submerged can ruin you day at any kind of speed. The vid could be BS though. Any time Ive gone 100 + in a car on dry land I'm holding on tight with both hands and ready for anything to jump out in front of me. I took my skiff on a shake down run with the new 90 etec and jack plate and was gripping the wheel tight and probably wasnt running much more than 40 something, just seems fast. This guy seems pretty comfortable traveling at that high rate of speed.

RidgeRunner 02-02-2016 02:08 PM

I totally here you about make believe video. Truth is, they want to sell that boat to the common rich dude for the sole purpose of doing poker runs and the like. Those guys get a little too competitive at times. SO you won't get me onboard without a skull cap and a lifeline jacket. I will say 130 is loafing along with that rig. Not a hair out of place at 100 due to that windscreen.. Not their first run by any means, people get comfortable.. $1M boat, $100K Gold Watch, $99 PFD, :head: No helmet! 100 + MPH = F**& That!

An acquaintance blew over at one of the Scream and Fly events a couple years ago. Jetski vest saved his life but only because we were there before the spray settled to pull his head above the water.. He was making high speed passes when he crossed a boat wake in a canal and bye-bye. Unconsious face down in the water spells disaster folks.
I guess I am getting old, I don't ski around the lake with the rope tied around my neck .. I am the voice of reason 99% of the time on the soccer field (go figure)...and I just don't need to go that fast anymore. I do like the machinery and I am still a huge gearhead, just let the younguns do the silly stuff... I'll observe from a safe distance and comment. LOL! I'm good at that..

What's going on here ?

This web site is dedicated to the appreciation of the Wellcraft V20/21 day boat.
We chat about rigging, repairs, and pretty scenery observed from the boat etc.

Speed is not an approved topic of discussion.
Nice quite, gentle V lake rides pushed by old Evinrude 85hp outboards is what we prefer to discuss.

I believe there's only 1 or 2 site members who have strayed into the topic of boat speed, and they were reprimanded by the other members.
I urge you to refrain !!!

1w0 aint that bad, at least not in my BURB. Hit the limiter I set in it one day, only reason I knew it was was because I was half throttle, gave it more, didnt go no more. My nephew yelled from the back seat holy sheet. We were on our way to the hospital because my mom had gotten in a wreck, and I just stopped looking at the speedo. Counted to almost 4 before the speedo came off the 100 mph peg when I let iff the throttle. She was surprisingly smooth there though.

RidgeRunner 02-04-2016 08:52 AM

I've been pretty fast in a couple rigs, my truck is NOT confidence inspiring in the least at 100. LOL! Get's there pretty nice though.:haha:

The BURB is so smooth, it's scary. It's actually smoother at 100 than it is at 75. And she holds her own getting there.

It keeps pulling just as fast all the way up.

macojoe 02-04-2016 03:31 PM

Wow that thig is fast ferm!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Hoopte as we call it (Hyundia Sants FE) top speedf is about 80 and you feel it! 4cyl Can't wait to get some power back!! but I like the 26 mpg!!

RidgeRunner 02-08-2016 12:35 PM

Set it on economy and drive like you have an egg under your foot and I eek out 24 MPG when empty. IFF I stay in the sweet spot at 63MPH...
Need new rubber on the rear NOW,:sun: Thanks Ferman. And yes that Suburban totes the mail.. For a grocery getter, everyone needs one.

Best I've done has been 23, but that was driving about 60/40 split keeping it under 65 coming down the intercoastal drive from Jersey south. Getting 23MPG with a 42 gallon tank is ALOT of driving before you have to fill up. And I just beefed up my front end so I can now use 4X4 to help hold the power. Time to do a boosted launch video in 4 high and see how it can take off:sly:.

Found this while late night you tube searching. Well done video. The ocean is NEVER that flat off Savannah.
