I remember the episode of Top Gear when they used those trucks. I thought the same thing. Those things are bad a$$.
|
Have you guys seen the Top Gear where they try to kill a Hilux?
Freakn crazy... Here is the first of three youtube videos... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnWKz7Cthkk I LOVE my Tundra! |
I'll continue to be stupid and buy GM, but thanks.
If those numbers come up I think, Unimog. Arnolds Old Sled will do.. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...imog-for-sale/ |
Have Ferman put his hands on that turbo-diesel in the MOG. All others run for cover. LOL!
I sat in a Tundra once, it seemed like all the other high end Japanese trucks. Land Cruiser comes to mind. Too much foo foo, I still don't get it, I will probably never own a JEEP either. Different strokes.. |

(BTW, I had a 2nd generation 4Runner for 17 years, sold it and bought a used Sequoia, and I also have a '69 Land Cruiser work-in-progress -- when I can find the time to work on it!) |

never seen or heard of this show but what an a$$hole. that was a cute little truck with tons of life left. I would have had no problem driving it around for a few thousand miles.
|
Charlie that's what I thought when I saw that truck......damm that we be fun to own.
Crazy story..... We bought a used Toyota Tercel with 130,000 miles for $900. Karen drove it pass 200,000 miles in 3 years. I never changed the oil. It would burn a quart of oil a week so I added a quart of drain "used" oil on Sunday before the work week started. Change the oil filter once a year. Put tires on it and one rear wheel bearing while we had it. Finally got something better for Karen to drive. Then it sat behind the barn for three years until my mom went into assisted living. I had to get rid of it so I call a local junk yard. I jump into the car with yellow jacket flying everywhere. To my surprise if turned over. I pumped the accelerator a half dozen time and it fired up. Drag the rear tire across the yard because the brakes were frozen. Nobody "was" a bigger fan of GM then me. 1967 SS 396 Chevelle 1967 327 Chevelle 1966 Fleetside short bed pickup 6/ 3 speed 1968 327 4 speed Camaro 1976 Stingray 1940 Chevy master deluxe couple 350/350 and on and on..... Still have a 1965 GTO all original 102,000 miles If GM built them like they use to I would still be driving one. |

There's a guy on 4Runner.org from Iceland I believe that has a 2nd gen 4Runner set up with tires like those in the OP.
Those trucks are too nice and too new to cut up that way in my opinion. Currently have a 2nd gen 4Runner myself, have had 4 toyotas total, will always have at least one. Would like an older tundra to pull the V, but probably out of my price range. Have considered keeping my eyes open for a clean, mostly unmolested/lightly modified 80's model that has been babied, or easier to find-- rebuilt and spend the money. The older ones are going up in value. One of the main reasons the one in the top gear vids survived so long is because it had a diesel engine, very hard to find and coveted in the U.S. A gas engine, even a 22R wouldn't have cranked that easily without major help. Another guy on 4Runner.org had a CLEAN 2nd gen '90 model 4Runner with a diesel and wanted $10K firm for it. I'm a chevy/gmc guy myself Ridge, but don't like the idea of buying their newer stuff since the bailouts. |

Oh, and since we're talking badass... lets not forget Pinzgauer. God I'd love to get my hands on one of them... |
If your just talking WANTS I will take a Minzi Muck and maybe convert it over from an excavator to a people hauler. I don't even know why, I just want one...

I used to work for menzi muck in Lakeland and I will say they were fun to operate and you wouldn't have to worry about getting stuck! Just don't blow a hydraulic line they used panolin hydraulic fluid and it was $100 a gallon for the stuff and that was 5 years ago... But I'd like to see one with a truck mounted on the top side!!! :sand:
|
The county has one with a boom mounted brush hog. Wicked hill going platform, but yeah, slow and all hydraulic. Like they need one, snark, snark, the guy writing the acqusition papers was probably just like me. Gotta get one...What is the cost of one Bret? I'd think $125K maybe
:money: |
I think the one Lakeland has was over 200k I'm thinking closer to 250k. Yeah your menzi powered truck would only run maybe 15 or so mph.... I think you like speed a little more than that!
|
Lakeland also has a Aebi terra trac tractor (also sold by the menzi dealer) and that thing would be pretty awesome just to run off road with no mowers on it also made to run steep hills and the seat adjusts to level no matter the angle! But also around 100k
|
Slightly out of my price range, but interesting. Thanks and have a Happy Holiday Season! Vic
|
Same to you Vic!
