96 Johnson 130hp 25" shaft
I have a 96 Johnson 130 hp 25" shaft for sale. It has 126 hours on the powerhead and VRO pump that were replaced in 09. At that time the carbs were rebuilt and power pack and two coils were replaced. She ran great after that. In 2012 I replaced the trim motor,re sealed the trim pump, and re sealed the lower unit. Motors been sitting in my garage since 2012. Comes with controls. $1500

I just dug her out of the back of the garage. I'm going to hook up the controls on the stand and fire it up soon.
Good Luck with it!!
Hope toi have my new to me boat this week!! |
Good luck to you as well.
Still have this engine.

:pray::pray:

That's a good deal.
Wish you were closer. I need something to get me by now until my 4 stroke magically appears.
Finally cleared out the garage and fired it up for a little, but since it was sitting for a while the carbs were leaking. I did a compression check, left bank was:149,150 right bank was:140,150. I took one of the carbs apart and cleaned it and it stopped leaking. I'll be going through the other 3 shortly.

Crazy you still have this engine, is it advertised on CL?
Like others have said, if you were closer I'd buy it to put on a project. |

Know what you mean about the tire kickers. I like to wheel and deal, and I always build some negotiation room into the price, but some people will nit pick the hell out of something, then try to beat you up on the price, offering half. Tell them to go buy a new one.
I sold an 89 110 20" with controls for $800, and that's what I was asking. I had a guy drive 2 1/2hrs to offer me $400. Another came and thought it would be newer? I wound up selling it to a guy that knew what it was and didn't even haggle with me.
Carbs all straightened out and one coil replaced, she's purring like a kitten now.
I've told a couple people about your engine, only reason they haven't bought it is the drive.
I wish I would've dug it out of the back of my garage a month sooner than I did. Getting colder up here and no one needs an engine. I may part it out and keep a few of the new things that will work on my 200. The tilt/trim motor has like 10 mins use time on it alone, and it's a factory piece.

My price is negotiable now but come spring it's not. I sold my last engine as soon as it warmed up for my asking price.

Glad you got it sold, sounded like a great engine. If it were closer I would have bought it a long time ago.

Hi, New to this site as a member but have browsed the site many times as a guest.
I did buy Capt. Pete's boat and after getting the boat home I can say for sure Pete has done an awesome job on making this v20 a boat that will continue to be on the water for many more years to come. Solid wonderful floors and transom, all the hardware and equipment on the boat is done rite. I was really lucky to get a boat in such great condition. Thanks again Pete, Me and my boys will really enjoy the boat. I also want to thank Chris for waking up early on a Sunday morning to show me his really clean Johnson 130hp motor. Only reason I decided not to but it was I wanted a bit more HP for the v-20 I just felt after doing a bit more research on the hull I wanted to go with at minimum, a 150hp maybe even a 200. It going to be a real struggle to wait for spring with the new boat sitting in the driveway. |
Don't let the 130hp power rating fool you, the big V-4 engines took alot of omc' sales for 150/175's because they're really strong running engines. Not to mention they got ALOT better economy than there 150/175's did. I had a 140 on an old bowrider, and I had no trouble keepi,g up with same sized boats with 150/175's on them, but when they stopped for fuel, I was still running. I see no reason that if propped correctly, that 130 shouldn't provide upper 30's for top speed numbers. A 150 will get you right around 40, and a 200 will get mid to upper 40's. It's going to take 225hp to break into the 50's with any weight in the boat. Personnally though, if theres much wind and seas, you're going to be dropped back into the low 20's anyways. So unless you boat on alot of smooth waters, I would size your engine to your speeds.
Yeah for the money and especially the condition I'd hang that 130 all day long. Just prop it right.
The 130 was the base engine offered on my 98 22WA. I may hang it on there for the spring so I can get what I want for the engine.
Got a guy coming tomorrow to take a look. If it doesn't go I'm putting it on my 22WA and listing it that way.
Sold.
 Congrats!!
Sold it to the second guy that came and looked at it. Hope it works as well for him as it did for me. Wish I had a v to hang it on like I originally planned.
