86 V20 with trailer - Free to a good home
It's time to let go of some projects...
I have an '86 V20, with original (?) OMC seadrive, and an '86 Continental trailer. All free to a good home. I bought the boat and trailer in 2001 and used it for 6-7 years. The boat has been in storage for the last 7-8 years. Engine ran when put into storage, but condition is unknown now. The trailer has less than 150 miles on new galvanized axles and hubs, springs (painted, non-galvanized), and lights. Frame is solid (galvanized). Tires so-so (but hold air with help of some green slime). Currently located in Sunapee, NH. I have the clean title to the boat and registration for the trailer (it's registered at a GVW of 3000lbs, so non-titled in MA). I will try to post pictures this weekend. |
I would like to suggest that we ALL refrain and see that this goes to MJ.
He needs a boat and could use a break. All in favor? If someone can volunteer to transport the rest of us can kick in some gas money. Then maybe someone could give the fella a hand getting it up n running. |
2nd the motion!!!!!!! great thought
|
My first thought was to go get it n deliver it myself but IF I could even get home it'd still cost me $600 just in gas..
Surely someone local can volunteer to pick it up. |
MJ may not be in any condition to operate. he's a shadow of his former self. better let him fatten up some before you boys put him back at the helm.
|
Welcome to the site and the very generous offer!

Well heck... MJ lives in Boston....
I for one would chip in some gas money if you could take it to him. Should be at least half a dozen of us who would. He's been through ALOT in the last year or two which includes having to sell his house and boat. |
Well maybe his buddy Charlie could come pick him and his boat up n take him fishing???
|
Someone give MJ a call n get him on here...
|
Greg is already on top of it!
|
Awesome... Yeah he pm'd me that he would deliver it.... Really cool of him
|
This is a great offer!! All you guys are great for thinking about me!
I told my son & daughter about it and they are like do it do it! But I am not in any shape to have a boat at this time, physically or financially not really able. both my kids say to get it and if all goes well we can start next year? But as CTT said I an nothing like i use to be so doing glass work and such is a no way! So not to be picky but how is the hull as far as rot, transom?? motor and wireing not a problem, but can't get into a huge project. even after transplant, my hands are gone eyes sre gone. My kids can help but when they say the apple doesn't fall far from tree, mine fell ,rolled down the drive way and got smashed by a truck!! LOL But I want to thank you all!! I really miss boating and fishing!!! I am glad to call all of you FRIEND!! |
Here's more info, if it helps.
I believe I am the third owner. The prior owner lived in Macojoe's area (Middleboro). At the time, I was boating out of the Cape Cod Canal area. I grew up near the water (Long Island Sound) and on boats (sail and power), but my wife was a city girl with no boating experience. This boat was reasonably inexpensive, and I knew the seller pretty well, so it seemed like a low-risk way to see if my wife was into this crazy hobby. She was hooked, so the experiment was a success. A few years later, I went back to school, so the boat didn't get much use then. We'd put it out on the mooring, and only use it every 2-3 weeks. Eventually, we bought a camp in NH, and switched to lake boating. We decided to buy an open cockpit bowrider, which was a better fit for our needs (more seating for family, etc.). The V20 was parked, shrinkwrapped, behind the house, for what turned into 5 years. Last winter the ridgepole snapped and the shrinkwrap collapsed in one spot. Condition:

Sounds like a slam dunk MJ!
TAKE IT.... I'm certain that with the people on this forum we can come up with whatever it takes to have her water ready by the time you are.... I mean heck if you can be patched up surely this boat can! ;-) |
Sounds like a great deal to me.

Ok I will take it, My kids (son 29 daughter 26)have assured me it will go! Motor will get replaced with help from a few people, then if it floats we will go from there! I do not have a tow vechjel at this point, so we are going to have to figure that out? I live in Carver, boat will go to my daughters in Wareham, not far from middlebro. can't wait to be able to take grandkids out! gone will be the commercial fishing days, but great family days will be back! i miss the water so bad i say what did i do that was so bad to take it away?? lot of time to think in my old age, its not a good thing.
Thank you all!! |
Awesome.... I've been wanting to see that signature line of yours go away for a long time...
"In a V again!" sounds sooo much better to me. Joe we'll get you goin one way or another. I would imagine a powerhead won't be too hard to find. Greg, we can pass the collection plate if you need some gas money... Just say the word. |
Deal!
MJ and I will coordinate offline. I'll bring it home from NH; MJ isn't that far from me, so bringing it the rest of the way isn't a big deal. Plus, it gives me an excuse to have some fried clams at Lindsey's! I'll try to post some pictures to this thread this weekend. |
i didn't know fried clams were in the mix, i might have to come up from fl.
way to go guys, lotta good karma here |
This is great!
Way to go Greg and thanks for taking him up on it MJ! |
Thanks everyone!! I have already talked with BS and he said he has a bunch of parts there and can get a merc going for me! That will mean a bracket needed so I will start looking for one, don't know were the money will come from but we will see?? i have till next season to figure it out!
:nice: |
Sweet!!!!
I wouldn't rule out a powerhead on the seadrive at least as a stop gap till you get the bracket and merc goin. |
I seen a guy use the seadrive bracket as the basis for an outboard bracket. I don't know how he did it, just saw it from a distance and it got me interested
|
I asked BS about that and he said he has heard of it but a real pain! bracket will be the way.
Gill bracket for sale..outboard motor bracket - $600 (Lincoln) © craigslist - I have a gill bracket for sale good condition ..mounts on boat to hold a outboard up to 150hp. $600 |
|
one of the big problems with the sea drive set up is the trim system parts. if the go out, almost impossible to find.
wouldn't give it up with out checking it out, but a bracket is definately a better route. |
Agree... I wouldn't put a lot into it but if all else is good and we can scrape up a good powerhead.....
|
Been away bustin my butt the last few days, good to see this thread. If I can be of some kind of help I'm glad to contribute. Know a guy that had an armstrong bracket he was trying to sell, didn't get any buyer's and took it to the dump!
I was like WTH??? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! |
yea you never know when something like that wilkl be needed!! my place was loaded with stuff that i could never throw away, in 2005 my son said were did you get that? i said it came from tghe taunton house he said we left there in 1996!! lol yea but i always said i use it someday.

Sorry for being AWOL - I forgot last weekend was family trip to Maine.
I started to take the shrinkwrap off, but stopped when I found a hornet's nest. I took a break to let those bastards go back to sleep while I plan the after-dinner sneak attack. So far she looks pretty good. It was getting to late and the light was lousy, but I got one picture. If I have time tomorrow morning before I have to head to work, I'll take a few more, otherwise I'll get some up Thurs/Fri. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0dk2hkxl5v...m%29.jpg?raw=1 |

Took these Monday morning after taking off the shrinkwrap:
Ignore the leaves in the last one - the ridgepole under the shrinkwrap collapsed over the cockpit this winter and tore open a small hole in the shrinkwrap (about 1-2 feet long). It collected leaves and snow, and they fell through. I'll clean that up. Hopefully you can see the gloss in the hull in the first two pictures. There's a couple of nicks and scuffs in the gelcoat at the bow, but nothing bad. You can sort of see it in the second picture above the rubber block. I'm not sure where the keys are. You may need to change out the ignition switch. The one in there now is a replacement (from West Marine, I think); I lost the keys once before. |
