We all made it out to the coast fir another fishing trip this time on the V. The boys had a great one reeling in pink coho and Chinook salmon. Going out again Friday weather is going to be not to nice tomorrow. Here's the boys first salmon ever and deff not the last.

What a great start for your boys. When I was a kid, my dad bought a Johnson 5 1/2 horse motor and we fished Puget Sound in a 16' rented wood boat. It was nice father and son time but we never caught anything. I grew up thinking there weren't really any fish in the water and was around 60 when an old friend moved to my area and took on the challenge of breaking the curse. I'm still learning but catching a few and enjoying it - especially in my V.

Your guys won't forget these times and they're money in the bank for when they hit their teen years.

Couldn't agree with you any more there eyes wide open these days lol. Seem some porpoises today but the boys missed them did get a few more salmon before the wind picked up to much.then we tucked back in got and 9 big dungines crabs mhahahd.

Had another great day yesterday lots of salmon even more laughs. It was one of those day that dreams are made of for the boys they seen all kinds of marine life lots of diff kinds of fish and a coastal wolf swimming from one island to another.

Just got home last night what a trip had. Here's a shot of the boys and the V all looking good on a beach we brought home 26 salmon 20-Coho 6-springs and 2 halibut the big ones got away again this time I hooked two but both got off after ten min into the battle. The boys landed all but two of the fish a spring almost pulled my boy over and Brett keep the rod for himself when his nephew Jacob gave him a wet willy. They both had a life experience during that trip with all the wildlife around we even seen a coastal wolf swimming from one island to another.

Wow, what a trip. That little bay reminds me of when I was a little older than your boys I used to spend a couple of weeks during the summer at my grandparents place on a small bay in Puget Sound. It's still one of my favorite memories nearly 60 years later - it's probably why I never mugged any old ladies.

You also have your boat set up nice. Radar, stand-up canvas, open,front on your bow rail. I opened up my bow rail and am having some trouble keeping the vertical supports from pulling out of the sockets at the bottom. I'm thinking of drilling some small holes for the point of the set screw to seat into. Did you have the problem - if so, how did you solve it.

Again - what a great trip for you and the boys. I'm down on the Columbia river and it's good, but I can't wait to get back into the salt.

It was a great trip and thank you. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid with my son give him good life lessons and hope for the best. I haven't done a whole lot to my boat as I bought it pretty much set up as is. I'm a big fan of the open front I seen a post here a few years ago about a set of stairs to get up on to the bow prob going to copy that this fall. It slows me to storm the beaches and let my boy off the front so he can expolre a bit and get a break from tough ting fish lol. The radar arch could have been forward about 6-8" maybe I'll move my rod holders from the top to the sides. With long downriver rods and a long net handle they get in the way once in a while. Who knows you may have seen it down your way I bought it in Portland. Set screws is probably the way to go or even run a small bolt right through it with a nylon lock nut
