line spooler..........

so my wife has been helping me forever when putting new line on. complains about it every time. I decided after all these years to build a line spooler. something to hold and put tension on line spools while putting line on reels. what do you guys use and posting pictures would be great.

I always put the spool in a shoe box and throw a towel over the line

charlie_the_tuna 06-07-2015 07:40 PM

ok...... was looking for something with a little more tech but that's one way to go.

Well like many things in life.... You can spend as much as you want to.

Depending on the style of reel I either let the spool turn or let the line loop off the side.

Around $20 on ebay. http://s2.postimg.org/6sbsag76x/20150607_213657.jpg

Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...806592&alt=web

i just run the line through the middle of a thick book ( use to use the sears catalogue) and set some more books on top to get tension i want.'

to strip line i put a bolt through the inside of a gator ade bottle cap, screw the cap on and put in cordless drill. tie the line to the bottle and wind it on. when done throw bottle away and keep the cap.

I've used my vice and a screw driver before as well. http://s30.postimg.org/5veiypm8x/20150427_210727.jpg

LOL I was about to post the same thing, shop vise and a screwdriver

Dont reel to fast to overrun and keep tension on the reel with your offhand. It aint rocket surgery.

smokeonthewater 06-08-2015 10:56 AM

a piece of foam padding or swim noodle between the spool and the vice can be compressed a little to add tension.

charlie_the_tuna 06-08-2015 03:46 PM

I honestly expected more...... more tech and more photos. just. . . . . . . . . . . more.

Do you know where a WalMart is?

This was way high tech for me when I got it as a gift, took me 2 years before I started using it.

spend some coin? oh, hell no. I don't have coin. gonna slap something together with whatever crap I have laying around the garage.

phatdaddy 06-08-2015 06:49 PM

charlie, you'd thump a free watermelon...

charlie_the_tuna 06-09-2015 06:30 PM

you know where I can get a free watermelon??

Blue_Runner 06-09-2015 10:04 PM

Trip before last I hooked something that nearly "spooled" me ....free of charge. I locked it down and broke off the 80 lb braid before that happend.

randlemanboater 06-21-2015 08:19 AM

I'm afraid I am rather low tech as well. For spinning I just put tension on the line with gloved fingers with spool laying flat on floor, for casting/conventional, I use a pencil or phillips screwdriver and my feet.

charlie_the_tuna 07-10-2015 09:58 PM

slapped that sh!t together today. wish it wasn't such a pain in the balls to post a picture here.

Personally I would tell your wife to stop complaining and hold the dam line, not to tight
