Dual batteries

89 v20 want to install dual batteries. The starboard side of stern is full with one battery and the oil tank .What is on the port side under the hatch? wanted to cut the bottom out too see if their is the same amount of room? any foam ? any Ideas ?

Remove oil tank and premix and add battery. Two birds, one stone. An additional battery plus a non burned up power head.

IF there IS foam, it has to be the EASIEST material to remove...... I wouldn't let it worry me one bit

No foam on my 1991.

Thanks for the replies. I will report what's under the hatch on the next nice day I have to work outside.

anyone know where I can get another one of the removable hatch liners?

I have a 1990 V20. No foam on the port side. I cut a door in under the live well. Oil tank for the Etec is located there. Starboard side has dual batteries with switch and battery tender. Billy Mac

Didn't think about trying to turn them, I was worried about to much weight on one side. Must be okay if you have two battery's and oil tank.

Also think I'm going to add a solar trickle charger on the hard top ,for the days I troll a lot ,to help keep them fully charged

Fished the last day of rockfish season ,volts were getting under 11,starting having radio issues.

Project done. Turned out nice. The only thing is the weather has been cold, had to get dude up the street with a heated shop to finish it.
As soon as the weather breaks, I'm going to work on the solar charger and see if that is really going to work.

A 100 watt solar panel, if mounted flat, will give you 5 Amps charging in the middle of the day. Put on two of you have room. It will help some. An MPPT charge controller helps put the max into the batteries. I use a Tracer type from Amazon. These were made for solid wire for street lamps. You need to solder the ends or crimp ferrules to the ends of stranded wire for mechanical strength, otherwise the screw terminal trash the wires ends.

You might want to install a Victron battery monitor to keep track of the power going in and out.

I love solar power. I put 830 watts on my camper and it supports an electric blanket. Boats have less space but I would still have as much as would fit.
